This past year wasn’t just about reaching milestones; it was about deepening the roots of the community we’ve built together. Thanks to your support, we aren’t just reaching more families; we are providing expanded and more impactful programs to meet the specific needs of the children and families we serve.

At Kids Cancer Alliance, we believe a diagnosis should never define a childhood. In 2025, your generosity allowed us to provide joy & reprieve for 6,636 children, siblings, and parents. From the magic of Camp KCA, where laughter is still the best medicine, to our expanded retreats and family events, we ensured that “being a kid” remained a priority, regardless of the medical journey.

Showing Up When it Matters Most: The landscape of pediatric cancer care is constantly evolving, and in 2025, KCA evolved with it. We recognized that the emotional and financial toll on families requires more than just a one-time intervention. This year, we strengthened our Financial Support Services and In-Hospital Programming, creating a seamless safety net that catches families the moment they need it. Whether through emergency assistance or a comforting presence during a hospital stay, you made it possible for us to say “yes” when it mattered most.

Stronger Together: Our impact across the region has never been stronger. By deepening our alliances with healthcare providers and local partners, KCA has solidified its role as a trusted ally of the pediatric oncology community. We aren’t just a program provider; we are a lifelong partner for these families, and that is a direct reflection of the incredible network of donors and volunteers who power our mission.

Looking to the Future: As we look ahead, our vision is clear — to ensure every child and family impacted by childhood cancer in our region is empowered, supported, and hopeful. We are thankful for the progress we’ve made, but we remain fiercely dedicated to the families we haven’t met yet, those facing a new diagnosis tomorrow, and the continuous growth of our programs to meet them where they are.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHT Fueling Hope: The Remarkable Growth of Our Financial Assistance Program At Kids Cancer Alliance, we believe that when a child is diagnosed with cancer, the only thing a family should have to focus on is their wellbeing. Unfortunately, the reality is often a mountain of unexpected costs – from travel for treatment to mounting household bills.

2025 marked a historic turning point for our Financial & Bereavement Assistance program.

Through an unprecedented expansion, we successfully extended this vital safety net to more families than ever before, ensuring that financial strain never stands in the way of a child’s care.

Expanding Our Reach This year, we didn’t just grow our assistance programs; we transformed. Our program expansion has allowed us to: • Increase the Amount of Support: Providing larger financial awards to cover critical living expenses.

• Broaden Eligibility: Reaching families who previously fell just outside our assistance qualifications but were still struggling.

• Streamline Support: Reducing the time between an application and the delivery of funds, ensuring urgent needs are met in real-time.

• Sustain Support: Families now qualify every six months while in treatment, and we extended eligibility to include families up to one-year post-treatment; ensuring support continues through the long-term financial recovery period that often follows active care.

• Quickly Respond to Emergencies: When a tornado devastated the homes of four childhood cancer families in London, KY we were able to quickly respond by providing $17,500 for temporary housing, supplies, and repairs. When the government shutdown left families without SNAP benefits, we were able to provide a total of $17,750 in gift cards to ensure 31 families didn’t go hungry.

A Community of Compassion This expansion was fueled by numerous individual donors and the extraordinary vision and generosity of two key partners who understood the immense need for additional support.

We want to extend our deepest gratitude to the Kentucky Pediatric Cancer Research Trust Fund and the FourEvergreen Foundation. “The support from these organizations has been a gamechanger. They didn’t just give Kids Cancer Alliance grants; they provided local families facing childhood cancer relief and peace of mind during their darkest hours,” says Shelby Russell, Kids Cancer Alliance Executive Director.

Because of this support, Financial Assistance at KCA is more than paying bills - it is a promise of hope. It is the gas in the tank to get to the hospital, the electricity kept on at home, and the weight lifted off a parent’s shoulders.

As we reflect on the progress of 2025, we are reminded that our strength lies in our community.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHT Survivor & Sibling Scholarship Program Helps Students Pursue Their Dreams Kids Cancer Alliance’s Survivor & Sibling Scholarship Program was established to support pediatric cancer survivors and their siblings as they pursue their academic and professional goals. Designed to help ease the financial burden of higher education, the scholarships can be used at accredited universities, community colleges, vocational schools, and technical schools.

The impact of the program continues to grow, with 14 recurring, four-year scholarships already actively supporting students through their degrees. In 2025, seven additional scholarships were awarded to a new cohort of childhood cancer survivors and their siblings, expanding our reach and ensuring even more graduating Camp KCA campers have a stable financial foundation for their higher education journey.

Among 2025’s recipients is Carolynn Tucker, who is attending Murray State University and pursuing a degree in Agricultural Business. For Tucker, receiving the scholarship is more than just financial assistance, it is an investment in her future and her ability to make a difference.

Carolynn shared, “This scholarship means I will be able to further my education to not only better myself but to learn more and give back to my community and the ones I love.”

Another scholarship recipient, Evelynn, is attending Ohio Northern University, where she is pursuing degrees in Psychology and Criminal Justice. As the sibling of a childhood cancer survivor, Evelynn said the scholarship serves as a powerful reminder that her experiences and aspirations matter.

“Receiving this scholarship from Kids Cancer Alliance means being seen, heard, and supported for the experiences I’ve carried as a sibling of a cancer survivor,” Evelynn said.

“It reminds me and my brother that our stories matter and that my goals are within reach with the help of amazing organizations like Kids Cancer Alliance.”

As she begins her college journey, Carolynn also has words of encouragement for other students preparing for higher education. “If I could give one piece of advice, it would be: college is going to be hard in many ways, but just stick with it because it will change you in so many ways. Even in the bad moments, it will be the best time of your life and leave you with lasting memories, friendships, and knowledge.”

The KCA Scholarship Program continues to make a meaningful impact by helping students like Carolynn, Evelynn, and other recipients achieve their educational goals while inspiring them to give back to their communities and pursue their dreams with confidence.

FAMILY SPOTLIGHT The Greemans In August 2021, the Greemans faced the surprise of a lifetime when they took their eight-year-old daughter, Mallary, to the hospital for what they assumed was routine stomach pain. Instead, they received the heartbreaking news that Mallary had Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma.

From the first day of treatment, Mallary was connected to an IV for 24 hours a day, five days straight. The physical toll was immense, and her parents, Margo and Josh, remember how hard it was on her to recover.

The rounds of treatment were so demanding that Mallary was rarely well enough to leave the hospital during the intervals between them.

When Mallary was finally strong enough to go home, it wasn’t a typical hospital discharge.

Her parents describe it as the “happiest reunion of five people you’ve ever seen.” While the focus of pediatric cancer is often on the patient, the Greeman family’s journey highlights an often-overlooked reality: cancer doesn’t just happen to a child, it happens to the whole family.

For siblings Mark and Elizabeth, the experience was defined by worry for their sister. Amidst the rounds of treatment the family found joy in an unexpected place through talk from the hospital staff of a local summer camp. That summer camp was Camp KCA. For the Greemans, KCA became the “something positive” on the horizon.

When the time finally came to head to camp, the transition wasn’t without its hurdles. Margo admits that she and Josh were “a wreck” at the prospect of leaving all three children for a full week. They were convinced they would receive a call to come pick them up early. Those fears were dismantled the moment they pulled into the parking lot at the end of the week and they were met by their youngest, Elizabeth, who looked at them and asked, “Why did you come so early?” The kids hadn’t just survived the week; they had thrived.

Now they look forward to coming to camp every year. Mallary says her favorite memory was when her friends all dressed up as food items for the annual dance, Mallary choosing a pickle costume. Her older brother, Mark, found solace in the counselors, many of whom had navigated their own cancer journeys or had a personal connection to the cause. “Being with KCA has been really fun,” Mark shared. “It’s been nice being able to share experiences with people who know how it is having someone go through cancer.”

The Greemans have attended several other programs including Family Retreat at Great Wolf Lodge. For the kids, it was a weekend of pure joy and a rare chance to reunite with “camp friends” outside of the traditional summer season. For Margo and Josh, it provided something equally vital: community. It was their first real opportunity to connect with other parents walking the same path, trading stories and support in an environment that wasn’t a hospital waiting room.

When donors and volunteers support KCA, they aren’t just funding a camp or a retreat. They are ensuring that even in the midst of the most difficult times, families like the Greemans can find a little bit of joy, a lot of connection, and a place where a kid can just be a pickle at a silent disco. Reflecting on the organization’s role in their lives, Margo describes KCA as the “best of everything—kindness, compassion, and generosity.”
