ANNUAL IMPACT REPORT 2019

STATE OF THE ALLIANCE 2019 was a record year for Kids Cancer Alliance. We reached a new milestone in number of children and families served by our programs, which would not have been possible without your generous support.

YOU made 2019 an incredible year for 241 summer campers who are either battling cancer or are the sibling of a child with cancer. You provided a one-of-a-kind family retreat to a record breaking 37 families who are thriving because of the connections made and support received. YOU made over $60,000 in post-secondary scholarships possible for childhood cancer survivors and aided seven families in creating beautiful memorials for children lost to this terrible disease. YOU made the hospital treatments more hospitable to over 60 children with cancer in 2019.

Are you noticing a theme? YOU made 2019 a truly remarkable year of providing hope, joy, laughter, smiles and support to Kentucky-area children with cancer and families. While we have dedicated and compassionate volunteers and a talented staff team that puts the work of Kids Cancer Alliance into action, it all starts with YOU- the donors and supporters. Every single program, service, and impact we have on the lives of these special children is because of YOU. The pride a child feels when they catch their first fish at camp is because of YOU. The lifelong friendship that two campers create because they both have prosthetic legs is because of YOU. The connection that two moms form at Family Retreat over their children’s shared Leukemia diagnosis is because of YOU. The bond of sharing a meal in the hospital with another teen hooked up to IV Chemo is because of YOU. The gratitude of a parent having a special week just for the brothers & sisters of their sick child is because of YOU. On behalf of the families served by Kids Cancer Alliance, our staff, and our Board of Directors, we truly THANK YOU for making 2019 so special. While, 2020 has thrown unprecedented challenges and obstacles in our way, we know we can count on YOU to help us stay the course and continue serving our local children with cancer and families.

FAMILY RETREAT

MAY 2019 | 37 FAMILIES "Family Retreat was an opportunity to just be us and have fun. We look forward to seeing other families, staff, and volunteers. David Jr. and his dad really enjoyed fisihing, something we don't get to do outside of KCA events." - Elizabeth, David Jr's Mom David Jr. was diagnosed in the spring of 2018 with DIPG, a type of brainstem tumor.

Kids Cancer Alliance programs don't end when summer camps are over. In 2019, families enjoyed a day at Kentucky Kingdom, an afternoon at Malibu Jacks, an evening at a University of Louisville football game, and an epic holiday party with Aiden's Legacy.

For families with a pediatric oncology diagnosis, special days like these can be hard to come-by.

Quarterly Events allow families to spend time together and find community with other families.

TEEN WEEKENDER

OCTOBER 2019 | 48 ATTENDEES

Teen Weekender is KCA's second-longest running program. Beginning in 1991, this fall weekend retreat allows campers to reconnect and spend time outdoors. This year's activities included the climbing tower and zipline, pumpkin carving, football watching, and archery tag.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE $61,00 in Scholarships

Through a vital partnership with Lemonade for Life, another local charity, Kids Cancer Alliance provide financial assistance to families currently in-treatment.

In addition to this financial support, Kids Cancer Alliance provides Scholarships to graduating seniors, both survivors and siblings. Our Bereavement Assistance provides families support in the unimagineable.

IN-HOSPITAL PROGRAMS In 2019, we hosted over 50 in-hospital programs including 25+ Meals and More, 13 Flashes of Hope sessions, and 7 Camp-Ins. By meeting families where they are, whether recieving inpatient or out-patient treatments, Kids Cancer Alliance programs offer them the chance to share a meal, enjoy and activity, or capture these moments in time.

INDIAN SUMEMR CAMP

Our largest camp program yet saw over 240 kids with cancer and this siblings! At our host site, Camp Horsin' Around, in Perryville, KY, there was fishing, swimming, arts and crafts, games, archery and more!
