Coffee roasted at a higher elevation tends to be higher quality. 32 BUT WHY?

Have you ever noticed how one cup

of coffee can taste completely different from other cups?

There are several factors that play into the taste of your coffee. Everything from the region where your coffee was grown, to how it was processed, what kind of varietal it came from, how it was roasted, or how you choose to brew it, impacts the taste! Coffee on the same farm of the same varietal can taste differently based on the elevation of the coffee. At higher elevations, coffee grows more slowly due to cooler temperatures. “At a slower growth, rate plants give more energy to reproduction which in turn pro duces more of the sugars that create those amazing tasting notes in your favorite coffee.”1

The higher up the mountain you go, the fruitier the coffee tastes. With higher al titude comes more acidity, and with lower altitude there tends to be more sweet and soft tasting notes.

When you are buying coffee, check the label to see what elevation it was grown at. Try it out for yourself. Next time you are coffee shopping, check those elevation stats!!!
