MEANS TO WHAT FASHION ME?

I love how fashion makes you feel! In the right outfit you become powerful or elegant or fabulous! It is a fun way to express your personality. You can add a colorful accessory to make your look pop! Fashion can really change the way you feel about yourself and how others feel about you. It can give you power or take it away. Some people may feel fashion isn’t important, they maybe never have taken a risk! Fashions risks can make you or break you! Fashion has more power then people think.

Bruna

BREAKS IT DOWN

Photographer: Oxana Besenta (@oxana_besenta)

In the entertainment industry, it's no secret that fame can come with a hefty price tag. For 13-year-old actress, Bruna Aruna Tomas, the cost of her success was bullying. Despite her talent and passion for acting, Bruna was constantly targeted by her peers who were envious of her accomplishments. However, rather than let the negativity consume her, Bruna used her experiences to speak out and raise awareness for the effects of bullying on young individuals.

Bruna Aruna Tomas started modeling at 2 years old in Portugal then continued when she moved to Switzerland at 4 years old. Her first work was for Levi’s and Mayoral for Babymag magazine. Then Bruna was chosen to walk for designer Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, which was a great honor for her. Her resume also includes a lot of publicity work for Kaizen Models, La Redute, Wella, The Olympic Games in Tokyo, Wallis Valais and more. A couple of her favorite acting experiences so far were when she spent 2 days filming for I am a Girly and filming for Miss Bellyfoo- a series coming out soon where she plays the lead. When it comes to modeling, Ms. Tomas’ favorite experience was a fashion show she did for Mini Mode London. She adds, “They work very correctly, the models are chosen because of our quality not for the quantity (money). Nowadays if you contact most designers to walk for them, they don’t care if you have talent, they ask you money to walk for them, some in the moment are asking 1500 to walk, it’s insupportable for someone who is not rich. But Minimode London was really a great experience.”

This amazing actress is a self-taught artist who has honed her skills in a unique way. She has an insatiable appetite for movies and enjoys watching them in English. Bruna has always been fascinated by the art of acting and the way in which actors bring their characters to life on screen. She has a natural talent for mimicking accents and picking up on the smallest of details in a scene. Bruna's passion for acting led her to spend countless hours watching movies and television shows, and she would often act out all the scenes by herself, which helped her to learn English. (She’s also fluent in French and Portuguese

“They work very correctly, the models are chosen because of our quality not for the quantity (money).”

and is currently learning German.) This practice has also helped her to develop her acting skills and has given her the confidence to pursue her dream of becoming a professional actress. Her hard work and dedication are paying off, and she is becoming known for her talent, versatility, and dedication to her craft. In fact, Bruna was just recently crowned Miss Teen Portugal/Switzerland 2023 which is a dream come true. She was the youngest contestant in her category. Now she will represent the Portuguese community in Switzerland in the National Final in Portugal. It was the best experience in her life, and she is grateful to the CNB Beauty Contest for giving her the opportunity to meet and learn so much with Miss Universe Portugal Telma Madeira, Miss Portugal/Switzerland Débora Castro and all the team. A big thank you goes out to all of them. Bruna's story is a testament to the power of passion and hard work, and it serves as an inspiration to aspiring actors everywhere.

When it comes to goals and plans for the future,Bruna says, “School is a priority.” She also adds, “I am sure that I want acting, I love it! I love being in the modeling and acting industry but it’s a very competitive and expensive world to be in.” In fact, Ms Tomas had recently slowed down and she took a small hiatus from modeling because of how she was suffering from being bullied at school. It disrupted her life so much that she couldn’t focus on the things she loved like modeling and acting. Luckily, Bruna already had booked some work in advance and has her schedule almost full for the next Fashion weeks in Paris and Milan. She’s working on getting back into it while she tries to heal and move on from the torture at school.

Sadly, Bruna has been bullied most of her life. It started when she was about 6 years old. The same group of boys and girls have been tormenting her, with one particular boy often being the instigator. They hurl insults and spread false rumors about her to other students, causing Bruna to feel anxious and unable to concentrate. “Bullying makes me feel very nervous, anxious. I cannot concentrate on anything. I hate injustices with me and with all.”

“Bullying makes me feel very nervous, Anxious”

The latest incident involved the bullies creating a group without her and sharing a photo of someone's private parts on social media, claiming it was Bruna. She laments that sadly her peers seem to consider bullying as a norm, and they often enjoy capturing and broadcasting such acts on social media. “Unfortunately the new generation don’t try to stop it’s normal for them, they love confusion,” Bruna adds.

When faced with this stressful situation, Bruna immediately turned to her mother, then to her teacher for help. Together they confronted the bullies who immediately stopped… but only temporarily. The bullies stopped long enough to get out of trouble but eventually started up again. It began to impact her confidence, which is crucial in the fashion industry. Bruna elaborates, “The first thing you need to know about fashion is that it requires a certain attitude.. Very few are able to pull off. In order to look stunning in such clothes you need to emanate a great amount of self confidence. Wearing a designer dress doesn’t make you more special. On the contrary, it is the way you wear the dress that makes it special. Your style is part of who you are and you need to learn how to express it with confidence.” Being constantly harassed, put down, and distracted by the bullies, Bruna’s confidence took a blow and it was hard for her to keep up with the fast paced industry of fashion, while still keeping up with school and holding on to her sanity, which is why she took a step back for a bit.

In Bruna's opinion, schools should implement stricter rules and penalties for bullies, and such incidents should be reported to the police. She believes that bullies are often insecure and lacking in self-confidence, and adds “[They] only feel good when they see people suffering, people who need psychological help, and unfortunately most parents in these days of stress don't even know the children who [they] have at home, and we never know what they can do tomorrow if we don’t stop them immediately.” She advises that parents should pay attention to their children's behavior, and victims of bullying like Bruna should always speak up and seek help from the authorities or support organizations.

Bruna Aruna Tomas' journey highlights the importance of passion and hard work in achieving one's goals. Despite facing bullying, she chose to turn it into a positive experience by advocating for anti-bullying whenever she can. Her story is an inspiration for young actors and models alike. It is crucial to understand the adverse effects of bullying on children's mental health, which can last into adulthood. Therefore, we must take a stand against bullying and provide support to those affected by it. Harsher rules and penalties should be implemented in schools, and parents should pay attention to their children's behavior to prevent bullying from becoming normalized. We must work collectively to create a safe and supportive environment for our children.

P ting The “Social” Into Photography W h

ASHLEY ROBERTS

Model: Alexander Rodriguez

Photography is a universal language. And if a picture says a thousand words, then a photographer is the author of volumes and volumes through the photos they take. We consume compelling images like candy these days as social media skyrockets to new heights and we hunger for the next inspiring capture. These images inform, inspire, surprise and amaze us- even make us fall in love with the subject. And in today’s society, photographers have become an integral part of the inner workings of social media, much like a calibre in a watch. Because without photographers and photos and videos, social media influencers would have a hard time gaining popularity.

Ashley Roberts is one of the photographers who has her finger on the pulse of what the world is hungry for and delivers over and over. Roberts, a fashion, editorial, brand, lifestyle, music and portrait photographer shoots both in Los Angeles and Seattle. She is originally from Seattle, but now lives in Los Angeles and has shot influencers such as Piper Rockelle, Gavin Magnus, and Jenna Davis.

Clements Twins

Roberts, who has been in the business for almost 7 years, said she has loved photography her whole life and received her first camera when she was just four years old. “ I always loved photography and looking at photos,” she explained. And that love continued to grow. Eventually when it was time for her to go to college, she realized that photography was what she wanted to do professionally and she studied and received her AA in photography. However, she says not everyone who wants to become a photographer needs to go to school. Exploring photography on your own can be just as valuable, she said, “as I feel the self-taught experiences have helped me even more in my journey.”

Roberts loves to shoot editorial/fashion. She has a keen eye and loves to photograph people, working with models and creating a place where they can be comfortable and let their beauty shine. She prides herself on making those she works with feel relaxed enough to allow their personalities to come through- and it really shows in her work. “I’m very easy going and have been told people feel comfortable at my shoots. I also always ask for their input because I want it to be a collaborative effort to make sure they are happy with their photos as well.”

Gavin Magnus Annakate Dooley Jordynne Hahn Ruby Lightfoot

She also is a self-proclaimed “perfectionist” with lighting and shadows. “I’m very picky about perfect lighting,” she said. In fact, she is a real stickler when it comes to finding just the right lighting and loves to use outdoor lighting. Roberts also is good at scouting and shooting at beautiful locations with lots of light and color. “I love outdoor locations with colors, flowers, the beach; that type of thing. One of my favorite shoots was going to the poppy fields in Lancaster. I love shooting models at beautiful locations,” she said.

If you have seen Roberts’ pictures before you will notice her style is crisp and clean, perfectly edited and full of color and personality— all of which are just perfect for social media use. Roberts has in fact made the most of social media in growing her business. When she first started out, Instagram photos and creative photos were booming, so she used that as inspiration to build her portfolio. She then reached out to brands and influencers to continue building her brand. “I honestly just decided to go for it,” she said. And that is how she has become an inspiring photographer working with so many young influencers in social media.

When asked about it, she said, “It’s a small world once you’re in it. So shoots have been arranged many different ways, but Instagram is a great place to connect people. I’ve reached out to some people I wanted to work with. Some have seen my work on Instagram or been referred by an influencer friend. It’s really been all different ways and I love it.”

Working with young social media enthusiasts has been a great experience, said Roberts, and an avenue she plans to continue to explore. She hopes that the images she creates for them and others are remembered as “stand out” work that not only turns heads but also makes her clients happy. “I hope my work inspires other people who want to be a photographer, and that my work with influencers inspires people to want to work together.”

FROM CHILD MODELS TO TWEEN AMBASSADORS AND FASHION DESIGNERS

Styling/HMUA: Shelley Gerodias (@blushinglens.co)

Fashion has always been a vital aspect of human culture and society. It is a form of self-expression, a reflection of our individuality, and a means of showcasing our creativity. From the earliest civilizations to the modern era, fashion has played a significant role in defining and shaping our identities. It has the power to evoke emotions, convey messages, and even influence social norms. Fashion is not just about clothing, but it encompasses a whole range of elements, including makeup, accessories, and hairstyles. In this issue we dive deep into the story of the Clements Twins, two young fashion prodigies, who are a testament to the importance of fashion and its impact on our lives.

Leah and Ava Clements are two of the most recognizable child models in the world. Since they were little, they have been gracing the pages of magazines, walking the runway for top brands, and collaborating with some of the most recognized companies in the world. They were even dubbed “The Most Beautiful Twins in the World.” Now at the age of 13, the girls have accomplished so much more than just modeling. They have been featured in various magazines, worked with top brands, and even recently designed their own clothing line, KAVEAH.

“The Most Beautiful Twins in the World.”

When we last spoke with them at the age of 7 1/2, the girls were already making waves in the fashion industry. Since then, they have achieved so much more. These talented twins have worked with some of the most recognized brands in the world, including American Girl, Claires, Skechers, Old Navy, Nike, Disney, Hurley, and Mattel. They have also appeared on several magazine covers, including KidFash, Harpers Bazaar Brazil, and Vanity Fair Italia.

Their journey has not only been limited to modeling, but they have also done multiple segments for Germany's Prime Time Networks and raised awareness for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) on Good Morning La La Land. They are also passionate about supporting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, DKMS, and CureSMA, a charity that they advocate for since their cousin Shane was diagnosed with the condition.

The Clements Twins are not just models, but also intelligent and hard-working students who have recently finished seventh grade and are going into eighth grade. Both Ava’s and Leah’s favorite subject is history, where they get to work on group projects with their friends. They both excel in math, but struggle with science (even though they find it interesting) because it’s a very heavy workload, with lots of information to learn and remember.

Their journey has not only been limited to modeling,
PC: Robert Beczarski (@robertbeczarski)

These twins really are best friends. Apart from modeling together, and having the same favorite subjects in school, they also have similar hobbies. Leah and Ava both love playing volleyball and swimming for their dad's new swim club, SOCA. Their passion for fashion and design led them to create their own clothing line, KAVEAH, which focuses on comfortable, stylish pieces for tweens. The line has been a huge success, and the girls have been thrilled to see tweens wearing their designs.

When it comes to fashion, Leah and Ava have their own unique styles. Leah loves comfortable clothes that are cute, while Ava likes to set her own trends while still keeping up with current styles. They both agree that fashion should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their budget, and that people can mix and match simple, comfy pieces to create their own look. Leah says, “Right now I like more of the plain tighter crop tanks and baggy sweatpants or cargo bottoms. I also love a good oversized sweatshirt with biker shorts.” Ava says, “I love cropped tanks and tshirts too with a cute pair of jeans or jean shorts. I’m also into super soft matching sets which we have been designing the past few weeks for our fall KAVEAH drop.”

These twins really are best friends.

Leah and Ava's rise to fame has been meteoric, and they have inspired countless other young girls to follow in their footsteps. However, they also recognize the importance of giving back and using their platform to help others. They advocate for CureSMA, a charity that is close to their hearts since their cousin Shane was diagnosed with the condition. They encourage all parents to get their newborns genetically tested to avoid the issues that their cousin

has had to endure that could have been avoided with early testing. They also support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society since their dad went through T-cell, acute lymphoblastic, lymphoma, and leukemia. Finally, they support DKMS and encourage everybody to get swabbed and become a potential Bone Marrow or Stem Cell Donor for someone in need.

Apart from their charity work, Leah and Ava have also been busy with their modeling and ambassador work. They are currently tween ambassadors for Janie and Jack, Mona Lisa, and Cotton On Kids. They work with other brands as well from time to time.

Leah and Ava's life goals and dreams are still evolving, but for now, they hope to continue to inspire others to pursue their passions and dreams, both in fashion and beyond. They are excited to see where their journey takes them, but they know that they will always remain true to themselves and their values. With their talent, hard work, and kind hearts, there is no doubt that Leah and Ava Clements will continue to make a positive impact on the world.

Mila's journey as a designer began unexpectedly when she decided to create a Halloween costume for herself twelve years ago. Armed with determination and a few beginner sewing tutorials on YouTube, she embarked on a path that would change her life. Her friends and their daughters were so enamored by her creations that she started receiving orders, including her first wedding gown. This experience solidified her love for design and the joy it brings to people's lives.

Surprisingly, fashion design was not always on Mila's radar. Initially, she aspired to be a computer graphic designer, dreaming of working on computer games. However, after realizing that sitting in front of a computer for extended hours did not fulfill her, she explored other avenues. Mila's adventurous spirit led her to a career in international logistics, where she had the opportunity to travel the world. It was during her break after having a baby that she discovered her true passion for design and decided to pursue it wholeheartedly.

This experience solidified her love for design and the joy it brings to people's lives.

While Mila acknowledges that she is constantly evolving and searching for her unique style, her love for glamour is evident in her designs. She incorporates lace, feathers, crystals, and intricate hand embroidery to create pieces that make a statement. Mila's creations exude elegance and sophistication, capturing the essence of her clients' desires.

Describing her creative process as "messy," Mila thrives on multitasking and working on multiple projects simultaneously. Her studio may be chaotic, but it is in this vibrant space that her ideas come to life. Collaborating with a team of dedicated professionals, Mila ensures that every detail, from pattern-making to embroidery, is executed to perfection.

Mila's designs cater to individuals of all ages, ensuring that everyone can feel their best when wearing her creations. She believes that true accomplishment lies in the happiness and confidence her designs bring to those who wear them. Mila passionately states, "If someone who is wearing my design feels their best, this is what I would call an accomplishment for me."

Inspiration can strike Mila from the most unexpected sources. Whether it's the vibrant colors of spilled Skittles or cherished childhood memories, she finds beauty and creativity in every corner of life. Mila shares one such memory that inspired her "Vintage Dolls" Collection, saying, "My grandma had one of those dolls when I was little. It had a porcelain face and arms. When the light shined on her face, it seemed like she was glowing. The dress, I think, was pale pink or maybe ivory… I can’t remember exactly now."

Fashion shows have become an essential part of Mila's career, allowing her to showcase her collections and stay ahead in the ever-changing fashion industry. Reflecting on her fashion show experiences, Mila admits that they can be both stressful and fun. She fondly recalls an adventure in Paris where she found herself accidentally locked inside an 18th-century Cathedral while working on last-minute details. She explains, “The day before the show we had so many things that needed to be prepared. I let my team go to their hotel to get rest and stayed behind in the venue at about 10pm. The show was held in the 18th century Cathedral, so beautiful and dramatic. I was on the lower level working on some last touch ups for my new collection alone and when I finished I realized there was not a single soul in the whole Cathedral. It was completely dark and the exit gate was locked. I tried to scream for anyone but all I could hear was the echo. Which was completely terrifying! I called the production company and they only then knew they accidentally locked me there! I was rescued that night and had an amazing show the next day. It’s a funny story now but it was very scary to be locked in a dark Cathedral at night.” Despite the initial fear, the incident turned into a memorable and humorous story.

How to Become a Fashion Model

Hannah Kenerly

Photographer: Art Digital Media (@artdigital.media)

Finding her passion in cheer and dance over a decade ago, Hannah Kenerly found a natural progression into modeling as she became a model when she was 13 for cheer and dance brands. She continues to do both of those activities, but modeling has started to take the lead. Hannah has modeled now for not only dance fashion wear but also popular fashion brands, stores, and even walked the runway at New York’s Fashion Week. “It was my first time ever walking the runway,” says Hannah, “and the feeling I felt when walking for the first time was indescribable. I immediately knew this is what I want to do forever.” KIDFASH sat down with the young fashion model to get a few tips to her runway success.

Fashion Forward

Having an eye for style is often the job of the designer, yet being in tune with your own personal style can set you apart from the rest. "Fashion to me is a form of self-expression," says Hannah. "It’s a way to show others who you are in the clothing and accessories that you wear. It’s a form of empowerment and influence for yourself and others. Fashion is power."

For Hannah, it's a mix of the classics and keeping up with new trends. Take risks at times and stay true to your individuality. "I love very chic and almost classic fashion like Chanel, as well as bold fashion like Gucci." says Hannah. "My personal style outside of modeling is definitely very girly, I love cute skirts and stylish tops with a comfy pair of shoes, like some Nike Dunks, or Air Jordan’s."

KidFashMagazine.com/FashionIssue2023 101
"Fashion to me is a form of self-expre ion,"

Broaden Your Social Circle

The social media network definitely has a few leaders in popularity. “Instagram, Facebook & TikTok are all outlets that I use to promote my work,” says Hannah, “but with all the algorithms and idiosyncrasies within those platforms, the reach is relative and not as consistent as I would like,” As the world evolves and new trends emerge, new platforms are popping up. Social content creators are finding new outlets that fit their interests and audience better. "I just recently joined Brand Army as a creator and I love the freedom I have to interact with fans.”

Patience is a Virtue

Hannah has learned that hard work always pays off eventually. “Have patience and don’t let anybody stop you from following your dreams", says Hannah. “Patience is something I have had to learn with having this career, everything you do will lead to greatness, you just have to be patient and wait for that greatness to start happening, don’t rush things, enjoy every moment.”

Finding joy in the experiences is your reward. "I feel like a new me when I walk [the runway]," says Hannah. "Everything I had been through had brought me to that moment and it was almost a euphoric feeling, an “I did it, I am good enough” moment."

102 KidFashMagazine.com/FashionIssue2023
“Have p ience and don’t l anybo stop you from fo owing your dreams"

Embrace the Challenges

Sure, it’s fun to land a great modeling job, but it is not always easy. For Hannah, her hard work and dedication to showcasing her brands online and in person have led to her success. "Modeling has been such a life changing experience, it’s a job that has helped build my self- confidence and has introduced me to humility and hard work," says Hannah. "I absolutely adore my job." The dream is definitely to be able to collaborate with Vouge and Sports Illustrated Swim."

"Modeling has b n such a life changingexperience”

Don't l people g you down.

For many beginner models, nerves can get in the way. The job of a runway model is fast paced, and young models can become over stimulated. Exposure to fashion shows, even as an attendee, can help relieve those jitters. "One of my favorite projects is definitely New York Fashion Week," says Hannah, "the feeling of just being there is overwhelming in the best way, the people you meet, the opportunities you gain, the clothing, the food! Everything is so much fun, and just the feeling of getting to walk the runway is incredible."

Ignore the Haters

Don't let people get you down. This is a life lesson that can get you through no matter what you do. Unfortunately, in this world there is often more negativity than positivity - focus on the positive. "Throughout my career, I’ve gotten endlessly picked on, mocked and told I wouldn’t make it, and that my job was stupid," says Hannah. "My best advice for any of that is to not let the hate stop you. As soon as I stopped letting the opinions of others influence my life, I thrived, I used the hate as motivation to keep going. Let nothing stop you, the more you grow, the smaller and more meaningless the hate becomes." Hannah has advice for those times when someone brings you down. "One thing I want all of my fans to know is that modeling for me is all about being myself, showing the world who I am and what I have to offer," says Hannah. "Throughout my modeling journey I have found my way to self-love and self- confidence, and I want everybody to know that loving yourself comes before trying to make others love you. Be yourself, and if people don’t like that, it’s their loss."

Find Your Rock

Everyone has that person, the one that listens, makes you laugh and lends a shoulder to cry on. Whether it is your mom, brother, sister, uncle, neighbor, teacher, or friend, make sure to find someone you can lean on. "My biggest inspiration has been my mom, or my momager when she’s working," says Hannah. "None of this would’ve been possible without my mom, she’s my absolute best friend in the world. My mom has always stuck by my side through everything and always pushed me to be the best version of myself I could possibly be." One of my favorite moments was walking in my first ever New York Fashion week in 2021 and seeing her afterwards, she’s the one person whose opinion I truly care about, and she was so incredibly proud of me, and I knew I couldn’t have done any of it without her.

Hannah has big aspirations to continue growing in her modeling career and thanks all her fans for their support along the way. Her hard work and dedication can be an inspiration to every young model out there. Find Hannah on Instagram @hannahkenerly.
