These qualities are amplified in this year of the Fire Horse, and continue to shape our vision for the future.
The Expansion of the YULONG Vision
As the saying goes, great things take time. The past 12 years have been proof of that, with Yulong growing from a single Victorian property into one of Australia’s most significant thoroughbred operations.
When Mr Zhang purchased Yulong Park in Bayles in 2014, following his first Melbourne Cup visit, his vision was clear, even if the scale of what lay ahead was not. Today, that founding property sits at the heart of a 10-farm network spread across two states, supported by 253 dedicated staff and a carefully curated 13-strong stallion roster.
Every property in the Yulong portfolio has a distinct purpose, each designed to support the horse at a specific stage of its career. In the Nagambie region, Yulong has grown to almost 4,000 acres dedicated to stallions, yearlings, broodmares, and foaling across Limerick Lane, Chatsworth, Hillside, and Riverview, with Islay Vale farmed for lucerne and pasture hay.
Down in the Bayles region in Melbourne’s outer south-east, Monomeith Farm’s 1,100 acres handles youngstock alongside the Yulong Wagyu beef operation, while Nar Nar Goon is home to broodmares, and Bayles Farm focuses on spelling. In Seymour, the newly upgraded Riyue pre-training
facility (previously owned by Sheila Laxton) rounds out a Victorian operation that continues to go from strength to strength.
Now, the next chapter has begun in New South Wales. The acquisition of Segenhoe Stud marks a significant milestone in our history and a reflection of our confidence in the future of the Australian thoroughbred industry. It is one of the most deeply respected properties in the Hunter Valley, with two rivers connecting our story. The Goulburn has long shaped our home in Victoria. The Hunter has shaped and nourished the land along its banks in the same way, laying a foundation for Champions.
Today those rivers converge into something greater. The move into the heart of NSW’s breeding industry is a natural progression, built on all we have achieved in Victoria and strengthened by everything Segenhoe brings.
The care of the horse sits at the centre as a daily investment: full-time veterinary teams, on-site intensive care facilities, and a commitment to pasture management practices that support the health and well-being of horses while safeguarding the land for the future.

BUILT ON STRENGTH AND VISION
Our stallions embody our foundations and our future, proven by the on-track success of their many progeny this season. Nine-time Victorian Champion Sire Written Tycoon once again proved that class is permanent, and now has 82 Stakes winners to his name.
The meteoric rise of Alabama Express continues, with star first-crop daughter Treasurethe Moment adding a fourth Gr.1 win, while Mcwoody and Alibaba marked themselves as ones to watch. Tagaloa’s progeny hit the ground running, with the Blue Diamond winner producing a Stakes performer for six consecutive weeks across the spring. Gr.1-winning shuttle sire Lucky Vega, crowned Champion Victorian First Season Sire in 2025,
continued his strong start at stud. His seven Stakes horses this season include the three-year-old dual Group winner That’s Gold, and juvenile Gr.2 winner Cherry Bomshell.
Foundation sire Grunt continues to hold his own as a reliable source of winners, including Gr.1 VRC Oaks winner Strictly Business, consistently supplying tough, good-looking horses very much in his own mould. And as Pierata’s first Yulong-bred two-year-olds prepare to build on the success of their predecessors, the reputation of our roster looks primed to rise further as we head into the new season.

The measure of any breeding operation lies not just in the sales, but in the follow-on racetrack results achieved by the clients and connections who put their faith in Yulong stock. Horses purchased from Yulong in previous years stepped up to claim Group and Listed honours across Australia and New Zealand, with many acquired for remarkably accessible price points. Beyond the track, Yulong sires continue to resonate beyond our own consignments, with Alabama Express in particular commanding serious attention at Karaka, where his progeny topped NZ$850,000. From the sales ring to the winner’s circle, the results belong to everyone who has believed in the Yulong programme.
Leading Vendor at Inglis Premier
For the third consecutive year, Yulong topped the vendor table at the 2026 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, selling 40 yearlings for an aggregate of $3,825,000. Also for the third straight year, Yulong were named the Top Victorian Vendor by Aggregate at the 2026 Inglis Classic Sale, with 22 yearlings sold for $2,410,000. Breeding and selling a million-dollar yearling is no mean feat, but for the second season in a row, the farm achieved another top draw lot with the Written Tycoon x Miss Iano colt topping our draft at Easter.
A Magical Magic Millions
The 2026 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale was Yulong’s highest grossing Magic Millions to date, with 46 yearlings selling for $12.62 million (+$3m on 2025). Five sires averaged over 10 times their conception fee, including first-season sire, Diatonic.
