In the heart of the Himalayas, the women of Biyasi village, in Nainital district of Uttarakhand, have come together to form Khili Buransh. This self-help group was born during the challenging times of the 2020 lockdown, when 25 determined women went through a professional sewing training program. Out of these, nine brave souls decided to turn their newfound skills into a means of livelihood.
Life in this remote village is not easy. The women juggle daily chores of collecting firewood, fetching water, and tending to their homes. Yet, they have found a way to stitch their dreams and create magic through their handcrafted products.
Khili Buransh is more than just a self-help group; it’s a community where women share stories, laugh together, and create beautiful handcrafted items. Using cotton and cotton blends, they make a variety of products including patchwork & quilted techniques. Each product is a testament to their resilience and creativity, crafted with love and a touch of Himalayan magic. Every stitch is filled with love and hope. The women dream of financial independence, of being able to contribute to their households and care for their families. But most importantly, they dream of inspiring other women to chase their own dreams.
The name Khili Buransh, inspired by the blooming rhododendron flower, symbolizes the onset of spring and new beginnings in the Central Himalayas.
