DEDUX @ DUXTON

Located in Duxton Plain Park, Yan Kit Road. Dedux@Duxton serves as a communal sports & fitness facility for the residents living in the Pinnacle and the nearby estates. It is part of a bigger plan that I have proposed for the future of the Greater Southern Waterfront.

The west wing offers a food court where the residents are able to enjoy good food, with easy access to the Pinnacle. The level 2 has a badminton court, with an open air park that also links to the Pinnacle’s playground on their ground level.

“A communal sports-centric area that is accessible to all residents, either on foot or on bicycles, to allow for interaction between different ages and cultures.”

Ground floor - a wavy and spacious walk way, that has a bicycle path, divides the two buildings - East and West. They hold two dance studios, a basketball court and a food court.

The site had lacked in certain areas and aspects. This was made obvious when the residents were asked what they feel their neighbourhood lacked in, and most answers were that it just did not feel like one. Certain amenities were missing, and despite having a community centre nearby, it was just not enough.

The walkway connects this area to Duxton Plain Park and to the other parks, one of them being the the Vanda Miss Joaquim park just opposite of Yan Kit Road.

This is why Dedux@Duxton was proposed. A communal space, teaming with new activities and programmes for the residents to enjoy. With it comes other useful amenities like a food court, gym, zumba areas and even a skate park. The basement - holds a skate park and two indoor futsal courts for the people to enjoy. People from the ground floor are able to look down on people skating from the bridge, which also gives users in the skate park some shade.

This place brings a whole new leisure experience to the residents.

Exploded View

To be a gateway to other parks, while also serving the needs of communal engagement.

The look was inspired by what the site lacks in terms of design. The idea of using curvature as the means of breaking up the straight lines found in the site, while also using them as a way to guide users to its path.

Everything on a human eye level has this very gentle approach in design to make it easy on the eye. The hanging of both upper most levels is to make the design appear more lightweight despite the use of heavy materials. Speaking of, the use of glass is to break up these heavy materials, while also making the space feel more open due to the area being small in nature.

Landscape was thought of as well. There were 2 heritage trees found within the site itself, and I have decided to incorporate them into the design. The trees are what makes the park recognisable, thus it was of great importance to keep them as they are part of the small eco-system that can be found, despite being in a very urban area.

Getting around Pulau Ubin with a bicycle is common, thus my design is very bicycle friendly such as wide pathways, bridges going from one side of the pond to the other and places for cyclist to rest and cool down. The cafe is located at the front before the bridge, offering users affordable drinks and food as they walk or cycle around the site itself. Design Inspiration

CIRCLIN’ BIO @ UBIN

Located in Pulau Ubin, Circlin’ Bio is designed for locals and visitors alike to recollect upon past memories and the history of the island in a open and green setting. Circlin’ Bio offers something new that locals of Pulau Ubin have yet to experience.

A small museum about Pulau Ubin’s ecosystem and the floral and fauna that can be found on the island. Pulau Ubin hosts a number of plants and animals that are not a common sight in Singapore. These animals and plants are important for the ecosystem of Pulau Ubin thus, showcasing them in a special place allows users to understand them better and to treat them with respect when visiting a place such as Pulau Ubin. The design is very eco-friendly, with the use of biological concrete - a concrete that allows natural moss and green to grow on them - I am able to have a contrasting image of the design to its surroundings, while still having the greenery to overgrow in some areas to make it feel as if it is one with Pulau Ubin. The pond that the design is in is the highlight of the whole area. I designed with the intention of the pond being the main attraction, as animals such as terrapins and monitor lizards call this pond their home. Designs intended for the users are thought about carefully and circles the entire pond, thus the name. The design is friendly towards the animals too, as users would be able to see wild boars taking a mud bath not too far, monitor lizards basking under the hot sun, terrapins and fishes swimming in the pond, birds and insects flying about from one flower to another in this exotic, nature-filled site.

“For people to enjoy the beauty of Pulau Ubin ...,

and understand the rich biodiversity the island has to offer ...,

and to mingle with the locals.”

Design Process The design was inspired by the pond and its fluidity. I’ve tried taking this forms and exploring it in different ways. The study models show my early works when thinking of the design. These were then modified when fitting it into the design with the materials and programmes that were proposed. To make the design appear more lightweight, a cut was made to then install wooden tubes horizontally. These were not only made to make the design look better, but it allows for better ventilation in the buildings as design is made to be eco-friendly, thus no use of airconditioning at all. The use of Biological concrete also helps to keep the design more eco-friendly despite using concrete.

3HRIVE

Located in Temasek Polytechnic, School of Design. This is a colourful and vibrant entrance to the school as students and lecturers alike are encourage to feel and radiate positive energy as they enter and leave the school.

Level 1 of 3HRIVE comprises of a matress-like trampoline where students are able to relief stress by jumping and relaxing. Those that would want to express their creative minds are able to do so on the chalk wall. These makes it more interactive for the students and makes it more align to the purpose of the students going to school.

“To bring together creative minds into a vibrant environment that they can express their minds and feel free.”

The 2nd level takes advanatage of the double volume space found in the site. It consists of a playing area where users are able to seat and fly themselves onto the next level down (similar to a flying fox but less extreme). There is also a green area, a place where plants (that don’t require too much sunlight) are able to grow and the students and staff are able to take care of them. This is a more quiet place of the design where it is supposed to be more serene and calm to ease the mind of the students. The colours chosen are the 3 primary colours, that are scientifically proven to boost adrenaline, calm a person’s mind and also make them feel joy. These colours are vibrant and makes students and staff feel and radiate positive energy, even if they just walk pass it. The design is heavily inspired by triangular geometric shapes, to symbolise the 3 colours with its 3 sides. The combination of these colours and shapes help to make the design pop.

OTHER WORKS - GROOVIT Groovit @ Old Kallang Airport - Live, work, play. Chalets mimicking a mangrove habitat that allows people to experience the site’s historical chapters.

OTHER WORKS - ECHOING SERENITY PAssionWave @ Pasir Ris Park. An Additions & Alterations (A&A) work on the existing PAssionWave. A parametric design that echoes throughout the site which is now a more lively place, offering waterfront lifestyle programmes to the community.
