KEYS DADS SHARE ADVICE CORNY JOKES

CELEBRATING THE MOST IMPORTANT JOB IN THE WORLD
LOCAL FATHERS TALK PROUDEST MOMENTS & BEST DAD JOKES
They drive us crazy, they tuck us in, they play catch in the yard and teach us to drive. But most of all, they love us unconditionally, even when we screw up (and we do).
This week, Keys Weekly pays tribute to the men who undertake the most important job in the world — fatherhood.
JIMMY ROBINSON
Father to Baby Elenie (rhymes with Melanie)
Best advice you’ve ever gotten from
any dad? Be present and enjoy every minute. They grow up fast!
Proudest dad moment thus far? I’m proud of every moment; it’s tough to choose just one. I don’t remember what we were doing, but the first time she smiled at me was a pretty special moment.

TERRY WORTHING

Best dad joke you’ve told or heard?
What kind of bees make honey? Boo bees (My kids think that one’s hilarious.)

NATE BOUCREE
Father to Collette and Vance
Best advice you’ve ever gotten from any dad? Don’t buy a nice couch. Buy a fun couch, one you can use as a fort. Kids will always remember the forts.
Proudest dad moment thus far? When I realized both of my kids love the ocean as much as I do.
Best dad joke you’ve told or heard? What do you call a fish wearing a bowtie? SoFISHticated

DARREN HORAN
Father to Amore, Audrey & Monroe
Best advice you’ve ever gotten from any dad? Take good care of your children. They will be the ones deciding your nursing home.

LOOKING BACK ON THE BUBBAS
NOMINATE YOUR FAVES THROUGH JUNE 20

Voters have until Monday, June 20 to nominate their favorites in over 90 categories in the Bubbas: Key West People’s Choice Awards.
Once the nomination period ends, the top three nominees in each respective category will square off for rights to the coveted 2022 Bubba.
This year every dollar raised by our sponsors and ticket sales for the big awards night will be donated to the Bahama Village Music Program.
To celebrate nine years of Bubbas, along with more than $125,000 raised for local nonprofits and charities, we take a look back in pictures from our Bubbas galas, which capture the essence of our locally owned and produced contest here in Key West.
To every voter, supporter, reader, nominee and winner — we thank you for nine wonderful years.
So vote daily at keysweekly. com and stay tuned to vote for the finalists after June 20. — Britt Myers 5

1. 2014 marked the very first Bubba Awards, presented in the un-renovated Key West Theater that Tap Johnson had recently purchased and generously donated to the cause. The Bubbas became the first official event held at the theater. And while Rams Head has carried the theater to unimaginable heights, they continue to extend that generosity today, as the theater remains home to the Bubbas for eight of the nine years. (The Studios of Key West hosted the event during renovations at the Key West Theater in 2015.)
2. While the Bubbas are commemorated by thousands of plaques hanging on the winners’ walls throughout Key West, some of the most memorable moments occur at the annual Bubbas Awards Gala, where anything can happen and anything goes. From U.S. senators, county sheriffs, business owners and drag queens to skits, roasts and dance routines, the stage is home to any and all of our “One Human Family.”
3. “To win a Bubba is a life-changing experience.” We’re not sure who said this, and we likely made it up. But in all seriousness, everyone wants the winner’s hardware and even for those who can’t carry home a trophy, they all want to get in on the action.
4. The Bubbas Gala packs Key West Theater with laughter and charity.
5. By 2019, the Bubbas Gala ticket became as elusive as a golden ticket to a chocolate factory. The buzz spills outside of the Key West Theater and onto the red carpet, where local notables and celebrities gather to bask in the humor and fun of the evening.
6. 2021 witnessed a trend of new Bubbas winners from all across Key West. Over 100,000 votes poured in from six continents. We can’t wait to see what 2022 has in store.
7. There’s never a dull moment when Sushi’s in the house.
