Here we are, the end of your K-12 career. Some of your classmates have been with you since kindergarten and some joined us this year. I want to take this opportunity to remember one classmate who should be graduating with you, but sadly didn’t get to complete his journey. Pascal Weisberger was a vibrant, caring young man. His friends and community members have done a wonderful job keeping his spirit alive. I hope you continue to do so.

Our faculty and staff are incredibly proud of your accomplishments. This class has Miss Coral Shores, the Homecoming King and Queen, student athletes who will play sports in Division III schools, National Merit finalist, CSHS Sunshine State Scholar, Florida STEM Fair award winner, student government and class officers, cast members of “Mamma Mia!”, coral reef revitalizers, auto mechanics, marine mechanics, chefs, cosmetologists, videographers, computer geniuses and musicians. Many of you will take your dreams on the road to colleges, universities and the military. We hope to hear about the wonderful things you are doing. We will continue to see some of you here in the community as you have chosen to move forward with a local career. The community is fortunate to have you here as contributing members of society. You have a lot to offer.

Dear MHS Graduating Class of 2024,

Congratulations on this momentous achievement, your high school graduation. This is a time for celebration, reflection and anticipation as you prepare to embark on the next chapter of your life.

For many of you, this journey began over a decade ago when you walked through the doors of Stanley Switlik Elementary as wide-eyed kindergartners. As fate would have it, I had the privilege of being one of your teachers during those early years. From reading picture books to witnessing your curiosity blossom into a hunger for knowledge, it has been a joy to watch you grow and evolve into the remarkable individuals you are today.

High school has been a time of immense growth, both academically and personally. Over the past four years, you have tackled challenging coursework, discovered your passions, and forged strong friendships. From late-night study sessions to cheering on our athletic teams, you have embraced every aspect of the high school experience with enthusiasm and determination.

As you prepare to leave the halls of Marathon High School behind, I want to commend you for your hard work, dedication, and resilience. You have faced obstacles head-on, overcome adversity and emerged stronger and more capable than ever before. Your journey through high school has not always been easy, but it is through facing these challenges that you have discovered your true strength and potential.

As you stand on the threshold of adulthood, know that the lessons you have learned and the memories you have made will stay with you long after you leave these halls. It has been the highest honor and privilege to serve as your principal this school year. You are truly an extraordinary class that will always hold a special place in my heart as my first graduating class as KWHS Principal. I am overwhelmed with Conch Pride for all that you have achieved at Key West High School. Your academic accomplishments, athletic triumphs, stellar performances, artistic talents, competitions, and dedication to our community through service clubs have left an indelible mark on our school and community that will continue long after graduation. I have no doubt that great things are in store for all of your futures should you stay true to yourselves, work hard, and never give up on your goals.

There is more to graduation than celebrating academic achievements, we also celebrate those who have provided unwavering support along the way. First and foremost, thank you to the parents, family members, educators, staff, mentors, and coaches that provided a steppingstone towards the path of graduation for these students; they couldn’t have done it without you! Seniors, also cherish the bonds you have forged with your classmates. Over the course of your four years at KWHS, you have persevered through challenges most have never faced and have remained resilient.
