A House bill dealing with school safety passed the Appropriations Committee on Feb. 27 in Tallahassee. In a four-hour hearing, many parents of Parkland, Florida made impassioned speeches about the needs of the community and students.

Most applauded the committee members, who include state Rep. Holly Raschein, who represents the Florida Keys. Many said the bill should move forward, calling it a good beginning.

Patty Kodish, a substitute teacher at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on the day of the shooting, said students she was leading out were panicking and wanting to scale fences and jump in canals. “I applaud you moving forward. I’m in favor of this bill. Not all of it, though. I don’t believe in arming teachers.”

Raschein said the bill touches many facets of the issue.

“A large number of individuals representing a variety of viewpoints testified in committee, but the parents and students from Parkland overwhelmingly asked us to support this bill,” she said. “Not because they believe it is perfect, but because they recognize that it is a very big first step. I too believe that my vote for this bill moves our state in a positive direction and I was happy to see that we were able to identify policy issues that we can build consensus and take action and send a bill to the floor that has broad bipartisan support.”

The bill will be taken up for questions and debate by the full House later this week. Similar legislation was passed by the Senate Rules Committee on the same day.

Although it touches on firearm restriction, the majority of the four-page bill deals with school safety, mental health and coordination among agencies. The bill would provide additional funding for SROs, who currently are only onsite at about half of Florida schools. It also talks about a “marshal” program — special training and checks for school personnel who would be “deputized” and authorized to carry a gun. It would also require emergency drills for active shooter and hostage situations. It would also “codify and enhance activities of the multiagency network for students with emotional and behavioral disabilities (SEDNET).” There is also a provision to increase funding for mental health training, screening and counseling in schools.

In its current state, the House bill does not ban AR-15s. It does raise the age requirement to purchase a gun to 21, establishes a three-day waiting period and bans bump stocks, which convert weapons from semi-automatic to fully automatic. It also authorizes law enforcement to seize and hold guns and ammunition for 72 hours from a person who is being examined for fear of posing a danger to himself or others, or from someone who has made a credible threat of violence. It also says someone who has been determined to be mentally defective, or committed to a mental institution, may neither buy nor possess a firearm; current law bans the purchase, but not the possession.

“I don’t agree with everything (in this bill) and I know you don’t agree with everything either,” said parent Elise Clippard, addressing the Appropriations Committee. “I get that. Remember, this is just a first step. We have an opportunity to not fail (the kids) again.”

O

ne of the main topics of conversation at Tuesday’s school board meeting centered around the safety of Monroe County students. According to Superintendent Mark Porter, “We are not starting from point zero; we are always working toward increasing efforts to provide safe schools for our students.”

Pat Lefere, the district’s director of Operations and Planning, said Porter’s statement is the biggest take away from the meeting. “The past 4 to 5 years, we have been updating safety procedures and security in schools,” he said. “This isn’t something new.”

Those include active shooter trainings held by FBI agents and school drills, infrastructure improvements like single point entry, securing doors and gates, and fence repairs, and updating and repairing camera security systems.

Monroe County Sheriff Office spokesperson Adam Linhardt said the law enforcement agency is not in charge of scheduling or conducting active school shooter drills in the Keys, although it does participate.

However, all new recruits do go through active school shooter training at the academy.

“But there is proposed legislation that would change that,” Linhardt said. “There is a plan to call for mandated, quarterly drills at schools throughout Florida that would be documented, approved and reviewed by local law enforcement. If that happens, our office would be much more proactive.”

The district also brought on a career law enforcement officer, Jason Brown, this week. “He will be assessing every school in the district to see where we need more improvements,” said Lefere.

Parents Catherine Dunn and Allison Sayer of Marathon addressed the board with their personal concerns about the lack of a School Resource Officer (SRO) on duty at Stanley Switlik Elementary School in Marathon.

Poinciana and Gerald Adams, which serve only elementary students, also do not have an officer. In the Keys, SROs are on duty at traditional combined elementary and middle schools, and all high schools.

Marathon Councilman Mark Senmartin has invited County Commissioners, School Board Members, and Sheriff Rick Ramsay to the council meeting on Tuesday, March 13 to discuss school safety.

“Each time I drop my children off, I say a prayer and there is a knot in my stomach,” said Dunn, a mother of four. “We have to do something. We need you to make the school as safe as we can.”

Sayer and Dunn said they have heard from other parents and offered the following suggestions to make the school safer: acquiring a metal detector, an armed security officer, and an onsite social worker to help those in need before they become young adults. The other budget issue is the cost of an in-school SRO in Monroe County: an estimated $50,000 per officer, shared between the district and jurisdiction, either Key West Police Department or Monroe County Sherriff’s Office.

Key Largo School teacher Shannon Hickery spoke against the idea of arming teachers. “We are trained to take care of our kids and our response,” she said. “The day that I have to go to a school knowing that my colleagues are armed, I will be done teaching. I don’t want to teach at a prison and our students don’t want to go to school in one either.”

School board member John Dick said that won’t happen. “That is off the table.”

School board member Ron Martin, a retired educator, said, “There is never a day that went by that I didn’t worry about this happening. I am hell bent to get something done. This is more than drills, we have to get back to the root of the evil, and that’s the gun.”

Board chair Bobby Highsmith suggested putting together a task force. He also said the U.S. Ranger Dive Team stationed in Key West has offered to teach emergency first aid to teachers and staff. He also brought up the lockout and door safety. “We need to do everything in our realm to keep our schools as safe as they can be,” he said.

All doors in new buildings are designed to open into the hallway to meet fire code. This means students would not be able to blockade themselves in a room to hide if there was an active shooter. “These were fire-related rules made long before we worried about bad guys in our schools,” Lafere said. “We have infrastructure money we can use to make investments in door jambs or other locks in the event of a crisis, if the board approves,” he said.

After the meeting, the board met in closed session to discuss further measures in private for security reasons.

MENTAL HEALTH @ KEYS SCHOOLS On Feb. 22, Monroe County School District officials met with KWPD, MCSO, FBI, the State Attorney’s office, and mental health providers to talk about three major issues: weapons access, school hardening and security, and student mental health. “The earlier we intervene the better,” said Porter. “Stopping someone at the school house doors is the last step.”

Parent and school board candidate Sue Woltanski offered information from the National Association of School Psychologists, suggesting that the district is short when it comes to ratio of councilors, psychologists and case workers assigned to the 8,000 students in the district.

Porter said the district is the connector to help identify those who need help and try to get them the help.

“Undoubtedly, something needs to be done for mental health services for students,” he said.

RECENT INCIDENTS @ KEYS SCHOOLS On Feb. 23, District officials released a statement detailing recent incidents at Keys schools. Six separate schools — Marathon Middle/High School, Coral Shores High School, Key West Collegiate Academy, Horace O’Bryant School, Plantation School and Key Largo School — dealt with events ranging from online threats and verbal threats relating to guns, as well as talking inappropriately about school shootings. In the past 10 days, every Keys high school has staged a peaceful remembrance of the victims of the Parkland shooting victims.

Moretti transfers ownership of property to nonprofit

T

he founder of the Turtle Hospital in the Florida Keys has transferred ownership of the property to the hospital’s 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization.

Richie Moretti purchased the original property, as the Hidden Harbor Motel, in 1980 in Marathon.

The hospital began operating in 1986 after Moretti acquired an exotic dance lounge next to the motel. In 2005, Moretti ceased lodging operations and focused efforts totally on sea turtle rehabilitation and environmental education.

ensures the Turtle Hospital will always continue its mission to aid sea turtles and educate the public on the importance of protecting them,” said Moretti.

“There is a deed restriction that mandates the property is used only for turtle care or for turtle conservation.”

Located at MM 48.5 gulfside, the hospital is the world’s first statelicensed veterinary hospital dedicated solely to sea turtle care. It has a fulltime staff of 20, three turtle ambulances and is supported primarily by revenues generated by visitors who tour the facility.

Moretti thanked the City of Marathon, Monroe County government, its Tourist Development Council as well as the hospital’s individual supporters.

“I’m ecstatic the Turtle Hospital will now live on forever,” Moretti said.

STOP SUCKING GETTING RID OF SINGLE-USE PLASTIC STRAWS

orry, plastic straws, you’re just too decadent and it’s time to say ’bye Felicia. This really isn’t a shock: the world is waking up and realizing our oceans are suffocating. Movements are growing from the European Union to Florida to ban plastic bags, bottles and, now, singleuse plastic straws. According to studies, by weight, there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish by 2050. That’s not good, especially for a marine-centric region like the Keys, and Reef Relief is doing something about it.

Reef Relief launched its “Skip The Straw” campaign just six weeks ago and already nearly 50 businesses from Key West to Big Coppitt have taken the pledge to reduce single-use plastic straws. Excited by the momentum, Mill McCleary, executive program director, said, “Places are now coming to us and not just restaurants. We now have Key West Bed and Breakfast, so hope-

fully, resorts will catch on too.”

Spreading the campaign gospel, restaurants like Amigo’s Tortilla Bar are passing out stickers and Pepe’s has flyers on the tables letting people know about the initiative.

“It’s got momentum and we will keep this campaign going for the next year or more, however long.” Reef Relief has just finished filming an informational video that will be released next week.

In 2015, a Texas A&M graduate student Christine Figgener found a turtle in Costa Rica with a long plastic straw embedded in its nostril. She and her colleagues filmed a video of the extraction — using pliers and considerable force — which has since been viewed 18 million times on YouTube.

“That was horrifying, the video,” said Bette Zirklebach of The Turtle Hospital. In the Keys, it’s quite common to find hatchling turtles who have ingested small bits of plastic, like a piece of a straw.

“Sea turtles are opportunistic eaters, and unfortunately that means a lot of plastic that is caught in the seaweed. It can impact them to the point that they die.”

Brutus Seafood in Marathon has a policy of placing a wrapped straw next to a guest’s drink, in an effort to curtail not only the environmental impacts of plastic, but waste

in general.

For straw lovers, straws do not have to disappear altogether; like whole wheat and Cheerios, there are healthy alternatives.

Straws made out of paper, plant, vegetable and other materials containing nothing artificial or synthetic in their compounds, may be costlier but are encouraged. “The restaurants that have gotten on board aren’t really focused on the cost,” said McCleary. There are straws made out of bamboo and even sets of stainless steel straws for sale.

Fort Myers Beach officially banned plastic straws last November, weaning them out of bars and restaurants over a 90-day period.

And now the Keys are getting on board.

BIG PINE CANAL CLEANUPS CONTINUE

Residents recognized for progress

O

n Friday, the canal restoration committee – appointed by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection tasked with restoring Florida Keys canals to help with water quality issues in the Keys – was updated on progress regarding debris removal from the local waters.

Monroe County started the official project last week. “Well, we aren’t pulling out as much cubic yardage of hurricane debris as we expected,” said Trey Fuzzell, who is contracted from Monroe County for the removal project. “I have to say it’s a testament to the tenacity of the local residents hosting cleanups every weekend in the area.”

Each weekend volunteers like Brian Vest, Lenore Baker, a few nonprofits, and hundreds of residents and visitors have been unwavering in getting their communities back to pre-hurricane beauty. “There is a huge difference,” said Tommy Ryan, who has been at most of the cleanups since the beginning, as well as continuing to fix his own Big Pine Key home from the storm. “We needed to do something; no one else was.

PORTRAIT OF AN ARTIST Eric Anfinson’s paintings are not just pretty pictures

ric Anfinson wasn’t always an artist but he has turned into one. He has humbly learned that just putting paint on a canvas or managing to sell a piece or two doesn’t really make a good painter. Anfinson has figured out that being an oil painter means living in perpetual doubt, becoming a critic both good and bad, being open to learning and insanely making paintings over and over again. The result? A style and unique vision that is so notably Anfinson, no one can doubt whose work is on the wall. On March 1, The Studios Of Key West opened an exhibit of more than 40 of his new works in a show titled, “Without Within.”

Being self-taught isn’t easy by a long shot. Having grown up in Minnesota, Anfinson’s introduction to art was duck stamp prints and, somewhere, dogs might have been playing poker as well. He actually came to Key West as a writer, only picking up painting to relax, a crafty hobby. Fifteen years later, he hasn’t written a thing since and has created an empire of an art career.

“This town has a way of shaking it out of you,” said Anfinson.

“When I started painting, I liked my vacuum and wanted to exclude any outside influences,” said Anfinson, acknowledging his lack of formal training. “But after 4 to 5 years, I gained a creative confidence and became ravenous about collecting information.”

His chosen subject matter is always people, but he rejects traditional portrait painting and scoffs at realism. Having had a studio at The Lemonade Stand in Bahama Village, he said, “was good training to learn to defend my point of view to the public.”

Now sequestered at his own studio at home, Anfinson can focus less on others’ opinions and more on his own.

His latest series is delightfully observational, much like Anfinson himself. In his real life and on canvas, he quietly studies people. Through his paintings, he strips his subjects of their most personal qualities and mutes and purposely distorts their physical appearance. Anfinson is looking for

the universality of his figures. “I want to give the viewer space to interpret the painting how they wish.”

With a soft palette of earth tones, Anfinson will present the “I AM” series of 28 24by 18-inch portraits, demonstrating people as a template for one another. Taking away the specific specialness of his subjects, he transfers that quality to the painting itself.

What is happening on the canvas is more important than the actual subject, the clever crime of any good artist.

While Anfinson’s work is often compared to Modigliani’s portraits, threads of Degas and Cezanne can be seen throughout his style and brushstroke. His work has evolved over the years, resulting in a more refined, focused body of paintings and in many ways the portrait of the artist himself.

COME TO KCB Little town celebrates itself on Sunday

ey Colony Beach celebrates its 61st birthday at the annual Key Colony Beach Day set for Sunday, March 4. Hosted by the Key Colony Beach Community Association, more than 70 vendors will be in attendance with wares ranging from artwork to food.

The Key Colony Beach Community Association fosters and encourages programs and activities in the city. As such, it offers vendor space freely to local nonprofits.

Money raised at the event, including proceeds from the silent auction, is redistributed in the Middle Keys.

In 2016, Key Colony Beach Community Association gave out some $8,000 to local non-profits such as Take Stock in Children, KAIR, Florida Keys SPCA, Habitat for Humanity, Grace Jones, and Florida Keys Healthy Start Coalition. The group also sponsors two scholarships at Marathon High School, and helped with beautification projects around the island.

The association also hosts the popular Coconut Crawl, helps with the holiday boat parade, hosts free concerts in the park open to everyone, and more.

Key Colony Beach Day dates back to 1971.

“I have vivid memories of my children in the casting contests,” said Key Colony Beach resident Pat JosephBecker. “It’s unbelievable how much the event has grown.”

Key Colony Beach has fewer than 1,000 residents and was incorporated in 1957. Phil Sadowski is widely considered the city’s founder, and was instrumental in its incorporation requiring state legislative approval. In 1959, sales on the island topped $1.6 million. When Hurricane Donna hit in September 1960, there were only 51 structures on the island, and it took less than 90 days to clean it up.

“I love the songwriting aspect of it; it has a lot to do with my love of story telling,” Valido said in a telephone interview with the Keys Weekly. The other similarity, he said, is its ties to traditional folk music, whether that’s the Appalachian region of the United States or the “guajiro” traditions of Cuba.

“Guajiro music has the same story telling, same guitar, just a different language,” he said.

The 25-year-old plays a solid 120 shows a year. Most recently, he auditioned to be one of the openers for the Suwannee River Jam in May in North Florida, beating out six other acts. That means he will be sharing the stage with Alan Jackson and other national acts like LoCash.

“There is no shortcut for this,” he said of his musical aspirations. “It’s hard work breaking into the scene and paying your dues. My goal is to develop a fan base, a strong one. That’s my entire mindset towards becoming a national act.”

Locals may have caught Ricky’s act in the Keys before. He’s played in the Upper Keys at Caribbean Club and Postcard Inn and at the Sandbar on Greene Street in Key West. In years past, he’s attended the annual Songwriters Festival and hopes to be a participant soon.

Lynne Brooks, his booking agent, has a list of adjectives to describe her client.

“He’s passionate about his family and career, environmentally conscious, has a high work ethic and is very articulate,” she said. “He performs two or three times a week, and sometimes twice a day.”

At the seafood festival, he plans on debuting two of his newest singles — “The Swamp Stomp” about the Everglades, and “Hello, Darkness” about a paranormal relationship. (He has an older demo album out there as well, with six original tracks.) He likes every genre of country music, he said, listing off honky tonk, Bakersfield, bluegrass and the outlaw movement. He’s been influenced by the likes of Waylon Jennings, Buck Owens and Merle Haggard.

It’s important to note that Valido has a big voice … big; Think Johnny Cash, one of his personal heroes, or even Rick Astley but just for the fresh-faced factor.

It’s not easy being an up-and-coming country music star from Hialeah.

He has studied environmental science and plans to get an education major as well, with dreams of teaching at a college. In addition, he works in the family business — Valido Moving, established in 1969 by his immigrant grandparents. Other than some guitar lessons, he’s self-taught from the tender age of 8.

“I’m proud of my heritage. I love to hear my grandparents’ stories from their time in Cuba, but my parents are working-class Americans with a bluecollar background,” Valido said. “All of that inspires me in my songwriting.”

he 23rd annual Gigantic Nautical Flea Market welcomed hundreds to Founders Park over the course of the weekend.

Traffic was affected, though the trolley the Rotary Clubs coordinated at Coral Shores High School helped. This year, the nautically themed market let visitors search for deals among more than 250 vendors. More than 130 Rotarians from the Upper Keys and Key Largo clubs volunteered their time to make the flea market a gigantic success.

The former quarry on Big Pine Key, part of the National Key Deer Refuge, plays host to visitors from around the world. On one recent day, travelers from France, Germany and Australia stopped by. In addition to answering questions about Key deer, volunteers who staff the viewing platform are likely to field queries about the alligators that live in the pond. There’s plenty of other wildlife, too: frogs, turtles, fish and a variety of birds, from bald eagles to anhingas to green herons and cormorants. SWEET DREAMS OF YOU “Always … Patsy Cline” brings back good old days HAYS BLINCKMANN hays@keysweekly.com

omething is wrong with you if you don’t love a good Patsy Cline song.

With a sultry voice reminiscent of cigarettes and whiskey, her songs came with a jukebox number and lyrics full of unabashed love and longing. Watching “Always … Patsy Cline” now playing at The Red Barn Theatre is just like Patsy said “Being Back in Baby’s Arms Again.” Actresses Christine Mild as Patsy Cline and Joy Hawkins as Louise Seger bring Ted Swindley’s popular 1988 musical to life with such talent and sheer joy that “the only thing different and the only thing new” is the audience gets to relive the good old days at least for an hour or two.

The play intertwines Mild as Patsy singing her most popular hits as well as some oldies, an outstanding 27 songs in total. Mild’s ability as a songstress makes Patsy come alive and her rendition of “Sweet Dreams” is glorious. Meanwhile, Hawkins as Louise provides the story of their friendship with such comedic triumph, Louise is seemingly Hawkin’s alter ego with hilarious one liners like “I am an electronics technician, we can’t all be hairdressers.”

It’s crazy but the true story about when Patsy developed a friendship with super fan Louise back in 1961. It seems the two were fated to go out walkin’ after midnight when the pair met at a Houston concert and the two steel magnolias bonded over marriage, kids, heartache and career. Until Cline’s tragic death in a plane crash in 1963, the women kept up correspondence and Patsy’s letters to Louise were forever signed “Love Always … Patsy Cline.”

The play is funny, heartfelt and just a really good time. Mild and Hawkins have reprised these roles so many times over that it’s polished perfection so there is no reason to fall to pieces, time only adds to the flame.

Accompanying the ladies on stage is a live band featuring Jim Rice, musical director, Drew Perkins, fiddle, Roger Rettig, pedal steel guitar and Lee Vinters, drums. It’s not just a musical but an outright concert as well, perfectly executed. omeone asks, so what exactly does KAIR do? Well, here’s a breakdown of one Wednesday in February with 30 people sitting in the hallway in the back of Community Methodist Church in Marathon.

From young to old, all nationalities and income brackets...

Paid four families’ utilities, bought a bus ticket, helped someone get a driver’s license, helped someone fill out an application for Good Health Clinic, bought a grill, filled a prescription. Helped someone with finding a rental, bought a car battery, paid two families’ first/last/security, paid for a hotel room so a mom and daughter wouldn’t have to sleep in a car another night, paid the rent for a single mom with two kids, and fed 45 families – for a total of 95 mouths.

That’s just one day.

“There’s a lot going on here,” said KAIR’s Marge Roberts, who is also in preparation for KAIR’s biggest fundraiser for the nonprofit, the Sombrero Beach Run taking place March 3.

The run was a big IF this year, she explained. “We decided that we really wanted the community to come out and celebrate, so we lowered the price to $20 and just really hope the community will come out and support us as much as they always have.”

According to Theme Runs owner Beth Moyes, who helps produce the event each year, more than 400 people come out to make the 5, 10, or 15K challenges. She manages and hosts 17 races a year in Monroe County, but this Marathon race is special to her heart.

said Moyes, out of Key West. “The city was hit hard but banded together in repairing the beach to continue the tradition, which is more important than ever considering its beneficiaries are those suffering from low income and home displacement.”

Roberts agreed. “It’s uplifting to know we can still have it after everything this community has been through after the hurricane.”

Even before the hurricane, the race supported so many people in need. “The housing crisis was here long before the hurricane,” she said.

“Our roles have changed a lot since the storm; we wanted to make sure nothing was being wasted.”

On that note, she was taking in tractor trailers of supplies for the Keys – rakes, shovels, generators and air conditioners. “Everyone was turning them away, and we took in everything we could,” she said.

One young family lost their boat in the storm. They have replaced the boat, but still needed help making it livable. Thanks to KAIR, the boat now has an air conditioner.

“We used to be just rent, utilities, car repairs,” said Roberts. “Now, we are flexible. We are stepping in where other agencies might not be able to.”

BRIDGE RUN GETS CLOSER Just a few weeks remain before the 37th annual 7 Mile Bridge Run on April 14. The run, sponsored by the Marathon Runners Club and headline sponsor First State Bank of the Florida Keys, generates donations – a half-million dollars so far – to local schools and youth sports groups. s a longtime professional musician — a lifer — I have played in many configurations. Solo, duo, trio, large band. And there is nothing more fulfilling on so many levels as being in a band that is clicking on all cylinders, in the groove, all working as one.

But bands take time. And effort.

Rehearsals, schedule coordination, personalities, and booking all add to the frustrations life throws at you. And at 56 years of age, with a storm-damaged home, a city, several businesses, songs that need to be recorded, and a few other things, my time and energy are not what they were when I was a few decades younger.

I am fortunate to be part of a great band. And you’re going to meet them all here in this column. But Glenn Faast, my drummer and closest musical partner I’ve ever had, is leaving the Keys for North Carolina. So if you want to see my band Jade Storm, our last really big show is Saturday, March 10, at the Original Marathon Seafood Festival, 3 p.m. Right now, I want to introduce you to the band, and thank them for many years of good music.

I’m going to start with Adrienne Z. She sings like an angel. She plays fine acoustic guitar (and even once showed me how to play the intro to Heart’s “Crazy on You” — a really cool guitar piece). She writes great songs and produces wonderful recordings. And she is a beautiful soul who provides a calming influence and real kindness in our band. I love singing harmony with Adrienne, and I’m sure we will have many joint appearances long into the future.

Rob Garza is an honest-to-God real bass player. Although he does play guitar and does his own solo shows, he really understands and feels the bass.

He’s quite in demand as a bass player and as a solo guy. He’s been with us for most everything ever since.

Guitar wizard Steven Miller is someone else Glenn brought into the band from the time when he played drums with Steven in Blackwater Sound. I first saw Steven back in Islamorada in the 1980s. I often say from the stage that I am in this band just so I can watch Steven play guitar.

Steven has played with everyone from Big Dick & the Extenders to Jimmy Hawkins, and elevates whatever stage he’s on.

And that leaves Glenn Faast. Glenn and I have been making music off and

on (mostly on) for a couple of decades.

He started playing with Roy McAdams and me way back in the last millennium, in bands like Men Without Parents and the Dead JOHN Parrot Society. Marc). After the keyboard players left and Christian went on to chase his own musical life on the mainland, Glenn and I lasted through a couple of bass players until Rob finally showed up. And then Glenn brought Steven in … and then Adrienne had a gig where she needed a band … and Jade Storm was born! Adrienne’s band was InJade, and Rob and Glenn played with her quite a bit, hence the band name fusion.

Glenn is calm, level-headed, and dedicated to his band. He is in demand as a drummer, having played with quite a few bands here in the Keys including Savage Henry, Blackwater Sound, and the Florida Straits Band.

He has been in charge of Seafood Festival entertainment for a whole lot of years. He owns his own personal watercraft repair business. He is a really good drummer. And he is one of the nicest people you would ever want to meet. And I’m really sorry he’s leaving, while happy for him and Connie at the same time.

This past week, Glenn turned 60.

That really annoys me. He still looks exactly the same as he did when we first met. Glenn, outside of the fact that you haven’t aged, it has been an honor and a privilege making music with you for all these years.

So when it comes to these awesome and talented musicians, I will be happy to work with any and all of them should the occasion arise. And we will play together again, but not as much as we did. So come out to the Seafood Festival for our last show! (For now…)
