LOCAL CHATTER

KEY WEST WEEKLY / APRIL 21, 2017 HAYS BLINCKMANN hays@keysweekly.com

Earth Day! Yes, that time of year again where we look around and think, we can do better. Our home is a precious resource, one that we need to save, honor, celebrate — not, repeat not, treat like a frat house. Stop the plundering and pillaging, halt the littering and be kind to Mother Nature - because she can be a real beast when teed off. Down here, our land, waters and animals mean more to us than a shopping mall. So we asked locals ...

What do we need to focus on preserving in the Keys?

“Save the conch shells,” said Bria Ansara, “People don’t realize they shouldn’t touch them.” And who would we be without them?

“Green sea turtles,” said young Harry Ursitty, “because they are my favorite animal.” Spoken like a true Keys kid.

EXPIRES 4/28/17

“Save the third largest barrier reef in the world, of course,” said Carly Shabo, worker with Reef Relief. Basically, save our back yard!

“It’s obvious to me we have to keep saving the turtles!” said Bridget Jiriden. We really do love our turtles down here.

“We don’t think enough about the seagrass. Without it our water wouldn’t be clear, our reef protected, so many things, “ said Janet Snell, “We need to make sure boaters are more responsible.” As in, stop running over the grass ...

WEEKLY INTERVIEW

KEY WEST WEEKLY / APRIL 21, 2017

T

o the delight of many Keys children, the 15th annual Michelle’s Willie Wonka Chocolate Festival will take place this Sunday, April 23. Local lawyer and philanthropist Michael Halpern began the festival with his wife Michelle as a sweet, fun-filled day to raise money for the Cancer Foundation of the Florida Keys. Since Michelle’s passing in 2012 from cancer, her name now graces the title, recalling the spirit and dedication the Halperns have devoted to helping others with the disease. The Cancer Foundation says, “100 percent raised, stays,” – meaning all event proceeds, from the $10 donation at the door and beyond, go directly to patients up and down the Keys who need assistance.

HAYS BLINCKMANN hays@keysweekly.com

Halpern is no stranger to giving back to the community. He is the only lawyer to win the Florida Bar Pro Bono Service Award twice for the thousands of hours he has given in free legal service. And his more recent project, building the new Learning Center, has resulted from a massive fundraising and community effort spearheaded by Halpern. Modest, Halpern shies away from the spotlight, instead shining it on the people of Key West who need it the most. Head to the Southernmost House Sunday but get there early, at 10:45, and watch The Butterfly Conservatory’s release of butterflies in Michelle’s honor. The day will be filled with chocolate treats, games, music, and even a hula hoop competition. And meet the man behind the golden ticket, Michael Halpern.

Watching the Hallmark Channel at Christmas. 11. If not a lawyer, then what dream job would you have? President of Doctors without Borders. 12. If you could have lunch with one famous person, whom would you choose? Judge Ed Scales on the day he did not forget his wallet. Finish these sentences. 13. My autobiography would be titled … “Better to Give, But Even Better to Forgive.” 14. One secret I shall never tell … I once saw a lawyer tell the truth. 15. When I go, I will go … quietly.

BUG FIX

Here goes the first test run of 20,000 Wolbachia-infected males from Mosquitomate. Tubes filled with 1,000 males contaminated with the bacterium were released by Beth Ransom from Mosquito Control on Stock Island on April 18, in hopes of reducing mosquito reproduction. These are NOT genetically altered mosquitoes; the bacterium renders them sterile and unable to reproduce with females. For 12 weeks, two times a week, mosquitoes will be released and compared to a control site elsewhere in the Keys. Stock Island is the first trial in the state. HAYS BLINCKMANN/Keys Weekly

‘IT SHOULD BE A HOLIDAY’ Grouper season opens May 1 KRISTEN LIVENGOOD kristen@keysweekly.com

WANT TO LEARN HOW TO CATCH A LIONFISH?

“T

he first day of hunting season up north is like a holiday,” said Castaway Waterfront Restaurant owner John Mirabella, who is hosting the “Uno De Mayo” grouper and lionfish tournament on May 1. “The opening day of grouper season should be a holiday, too.” In the spirit of keeping things simple, Castaways and Tilden’s Dive Center are hosting the first opening day tournament in the Middle Keys — even though it falls on a Monday. “I’ve been wanting to do this for quite some time,” he said. “And, now that I have more space to do it, we were able to throw this together rather quickly.” Mirabella just bought the marina property adjacent to the 15th Street restaurant, and is hoping to fill the canal with boats for the tournament weighin. “The spearos will be able to spend more time on the water and get the party started faster, since the weigh-in and party can be reached by boat,” he said. For a tournament in its first year, he said, he hopes for 25 participants, with proceeds benefiting Sanctuary Friends Foundation of the Florida Keys. “Castaways and Tilden’s have always been a huge supporter of our projects and with the lionfish eradication efforts in the Keys,” said Monroe County Mayor and Sanctuary Friends Board Chairman George Neugent. Mirabella has had lionfish on his menu since the invasive fish first showed up in Florida Keys waters. His lionfish recipes have been shared around the world and in very fine publications such as the Keys Weekly and National Geographic. Wendy Hall of Tilden’s Scuba Center, also a champion of lionfish eradication, hosts an annual lobster and lionfish tournament during lobster mini season.

REEF Environmental Education Foundation hosts free lionfish collection and handling workshops and lionfish dives in several locations throughout the Keys. Workshops teach ways to catch and handle the venomous spines on lionfish, and include practice time with professionals during a skills dive to collect the invasive species. To register for the workshops, visit reef.org. Upcoming events include:

The registration fee is $65 with a captain’s meeting (including sushi, beer, tournament hat, and six tank fills) on Sunday, April 30 at 6 p.m. at Tilden’s Dive Center in Marathon. The weigh-in fiesta will be held on Monday, May 1 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Castaway’s Waterfront Restaurant. Additional fiesta tickets for family and friends can be purchased for $25. Prizes include gift cards to Tilden’s Scuba Center and Big Time Bait and Tackle, stays and dinners at local resorts and restaurants, fillet knives, and more. There will also be a raffle of other prizes for $5 tickets. Categories include largest grouper, total weight of three grouper and all lionfish, and largest lionfish. To register or for more information, call Wendy at Tilden’s at 305-743-7255. Grouper season starts Monday, May 1 at midnight.

T

he annual political pilgrimage to Tallahassee took on special meaning this past week as Monroe County elected officials and administrators visited to the capital to lobby legislators on issues affecting the Keys. Created in 2009 by State Representative Holly Raschein, Florida Keys Day is now one of the most popular lobbying events, because legislators appreciate the travel challenges as well as the courtyard reception featuring Keys fare like conch fritters, Key lime pie and rum punch. This year’s event even featured a performance by Marathon Councilman John Bartus. Now a year removed from the passage of the Florida Keys Environmental Stewardship Act (FKESA), some state officials say the $5 million annual commitment is at risk, as bills funding Everglades restoration left little money for other projects. “I am hopeful we will be part of the final budget negotiation and will certainly be grateful for whatever we can bring home,” said Raschein. “We are just as important as the Everglades. We are a vital resource to the state of Florida and our economy depends on a pristine environment – which is in line with the Everglades policy.” This year 98 individuals — including elected officials from the county and each of the five municipalities — joined administrators, CEOs and community activists to bring a unified voice to the Capitol. “We are all facing the same problems and in need of the same funding to accomplish our goals — which is to keep nearshore waters pristine,” said Islamorada Mayor Jim Mooney during the courtyard reception. “We are so complicated down there that there is no simple answer in the Florida Keys.” The delegation’s schedule included meetings with the Office of Insurance Regulation, where members of FIRM and Ocean Reef’s David Ritz grilled OIR Commissioner David Altmaier on the risk models in relation to windstorm premiums. Other presenters included FWC, the Surgeon General, Department of Economic Opportunity and Visit Florida President Ken Lawson, who praised the Keys representative for stepping in to support the tourismbased agency when house budget cuts threatened its existence. “Representative Raschein is a real leader, someone that is a friend to me and will stand up for your community,” Lawson told the group. “Tourism is the backbone of our economy and community and Visit Florida has been extremely effective in the Keys, spending a million dollars here alone,” Raschein said. Florida Keys Day was sponsored by a number of local businesses and organizations from Ocean Reef to Key West.

The busy ‘ramp’ at the airport serving four commercial airlines.

KEY WEST WEEKLY / APRIL 21, 2017

CHECKING IN AT EYW WHAT’S HAPPENING AT THE KEY WEST AIRPORT HAYS BLINCKMANN hays@keysweekly.com

D

onald DeGraw, director Of Key West Airport, has a lot of pride in the vast improvements at the Key West International airport, and deservedly so. Key West may have the smallest runway in the country for commercial airlines (4,801 feet to be exact) but EYW does big business, and does it well. Usually a small airport would sit on 1,000 acres. But settled on a cozy 334, the Key West Airport accommodates almost a million passenger a year with a 98 percent approval rating according to feedback. Despite Delta’s emergency this week when the flight crew noticed something unusual during preflight and de-boarded a plane, things run fairly smoothly at the little airport. Taking a tour of EYW with DeGraw, there is a lot to learn and a lot happening in the future.

“Always great to see the smiling faces when people land, so happy when they get here and always say, Do I have to leave?” —Murray Cox, Monroe County Sheriff’s runway patrol.

The Mamava—the latest in privacy for breastfeeding mothers is also equipped with a suggestion sheet and fan. HAYS BLINCKMANN/Keys Weekly

DeGraw holds a degree in aeronautical studies/management from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach and has been in the airport business for more than 20 years. Leaving behind snow-filled runways in Vermont, Yellowstone, and New York’s JFK, DeGraw began as assistant director in 2013 and became full director when Peter Horton retired in January 2015. “I am really happy about how we listen to our customers. We are constantly improving and making adjustments, and the vast majority of our feedback is positive. Even our TSA [screen point] has little to no waiting time.” Not many airport directors can tout that! So why is EYW so different? DeGraw was more than happy to answer. What about over booking? Is that a big issue for EYW? Yes, it happens, flights run full, but generally, passengers will accept a voucher. The average is around $1,000. But it’s never really been a big issue … Who doesn’t want to stay a little longer in Key West? The recent Chicago incident involving the police, could you see that happening here? No, our law enforcement officers are so in tune with our customers, they really understand people. I don’t think that would ever be an issue for us.

Tuesday’s scare with the Delta flight seemed to be under control fairly quickly. Is that right? The airport and its law enforcement partners worked together flawlessly and cleared the flight for take-off when the aircraft and passengers were re-screened. Who monitors the airfield? How many arrests a year? The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is always on hand. Luckily we have very few arrests a year, mostly it is just trespassing or someone causing a disturbance; not passengers usually. In January, we had an incident when a woman tried to conceal a weapon (a boxcutter) in a book; that was pretty out of the ordinary. How many emergencies a month? There’s usually about three — minor things like smoke, landing gear malfunctions or just flat tires. We just had a Cessna land with only one engine working, but that went smoothly. How many EMS calls a year? About 100. Again, mostly minor things; often escalator mishaps because we have the only one in the Keys!

INFRASTRUCTURE

KEY WEST WEEKLY / APRIL 21, 2017

How much lost luggage? (laughing) Well, that rarely happens unless someone forgot to put the bag on the plane somewhere else. But around here, it doesn’t have far to go. What’s planned for EYW? Right now we are replacing the ramp’s asphalt (the area where the commercial airlines load and unload) with concrete. It is a $10 million project (90 percent from federal government, 5 percent from the state, and 5 percent from passenger fees) which will provide a better surface for aircraft and reduce puddling that passengers sometimes have to traverse. It is being done in sections, at night, and will take a year to complete. Also, we are entering phase 2 of a drainage project for flooding that costs $1 million. Eventually, we will resurface the runway and are looking to add 200 feet. There has been talk of moving the airport to Boca Chica. Will that ever happen? Since the 1990s there has been that discussion. This airport sits at an elevation of 3 feet and Boca Chica is at 7 feet. If water levels keep rising, we don’t want to find ourselves in a crisis situation. We have about 40 percent of a master plan in place. Will low-cost carriers like Southwest come back to EYW? I am consistently trying to increase competition and good rates. The problem is only a handful of those carriers can operate on our runway. Southwest has no interest at this time. Will Uber or Lyft coming to Key West affect EYW? We will follow suit with whatever the City of Key West decides, but there will always be a taxi stand. What passenger improvements are happening? Everyone is loving the “Mamava,” a private pod area for nursing mothers. The Arts Council provides new artwork consistently. There are charging stations in the passenger waiting area and, soon, there will be new chairs with actual work stations for laptop users. We worked with the Audubon Society to stripe the passenger tunnel windows to prevent bird strikes and are working on a “pet relief” area. The downstairs food and beverage area is expanding. And lastly, a volunteer-operated welcoming center at the luggage carousel helps with travelers’ questions when they arrive. Last question. Why is that truck always zooming down the runway with its lights flashing? It’s just to scare the birds away.

Local art is always on display.

The Key West Weekly is proud to partner with Key West High School faculty and students in choosing “The Student of the Week.” Recipients are chosen on a myriad of qualifications ranging from academic standing, athletics, outstanding achievements, community involvement, individuality and moral fortitude. We thank our future leaders and KWHS for allowing us to share in a weekly dose of “Conch Pride” and congratulate all of the outstanding students of the week. What organizations and activities are you involved with at Key West High School and why are they important to you? I am a member of Executive Board, Academic Challenge, Mu Alpha Theta, and Reef Relief. Who has been your biggest inspiration at Key West High School and why? I would say Dennis Whaley, because he helped me raise the bar for myself. What class do you think has best prepared you for life after high school and why? Applied Engineering; it taught me life lessons and skills that I can transfer to the real world. What is your favorite social medium and why? Whom do you follow? Instagram. I follow “Hoodclips” and other meme pages. What are the biggest challenges facing the Keys? What would you do to meet these challenges? The coral reefs surrounding the Keys that maintain a viable ecosystem are on a steady decline. More research needs to be done to figure out solutions to restoring the coral reef habitats. What are your plans after high school? I plan to further pursue marine biology and study nature. Do you think you will make the Keys your permanent home? Why or why not? I will not. I want something that is completely opposite. Finish this sentence: Living in the Keys has taught me… what it’s like to be a Conch and that we shouldn’t take living on this island for granted.

Don’t burst the bubble

The Oldest House hosts bubble party for tots

he Oldest House provided the garden and the Key West Art and Historical Society the bubbles, and together they made children giggle. Little ones came out to play on a lawn full of bubblicious wonder – big bubbles, little bubbles, here a bubble, there a bubble – proving it might actually be really great to live in a bubble. Children flocked to the Oldest House on April 15 for a quick morning of bubble play and a sing-along with Miss Jenney. Missed it? Don’t worry; there will be another one May 20.

Truman Little White House hosts paella cook off

O

n Saturday, April 22 head on down to the Truman Little White House for the ultimate Valencian rice dish, paella. It’s the soul food of Spain. Seven well-known local chefs, amateur and professional, will be putting their dishes to the test between 5 and 8 p.m. The $25 entry fee will not only get you seven different tastes of paella and a splash of vino, it will help raise money for the Truman Little White House. Grab some friends for a fun night on the Truman lawn with a cash bar, live music and raffle. And don’t forget to vote for El Paella Rey. —Hays Blinckmann 1. Annie and Greg Curry The Curry family history in Key West dates back to the 1840s and they have an authentic paella recipe. Bubba Greg/ Coach Curry and his wife, Annie, recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and 50 years of cooking Key West paella together! 2. Chris Belland Chris Belland retired from the bullfighting ring after a successful career, including training new fighters to take his place, not the least of whom were Manolete and El Cordobes. Needing a new challenge and finding Formula One too time consuming, he turned to the culinary field and found his place. Today, his paella is in demand from celebrities worldwide. Enjoy! 3. Hank Kokenzie Hank is a fifth generation Conch and is leader of Team Angry Black Dog. His favorite style of cooking is Floribbean, using old Conch recipes and adding fresh local ingredients to his dishes. Team Angry Black Dog is made up of Hank the Chef, Melissa the support system, Kirby the mascot.

1 4. Martin Liz Chef, and culinary author, Martin M. Liz is a multiple-generation native Key West Conch. His natural creativity, coupled with classical training and a desire to preserve the largely lost, culinary traditions of his heritage, meld an exotic mix of Cuban, Bahamian, Afro-Caribbean and FrenchWest Indies with tastes that are exclusively, undeniably, Key West. He likes romantic sunsets and very long, spicy sentences. 5. Paul Toppino Paul Toppino is a native Conch. For the past 30 years, cooking has been his passion. Paul has traveled extensively — visiting most of the U.S., Central America, Far East, Africa and Europe. “I traveled to Pamplona, Spain in 2001, to run with the bulls. That’s where I first got interested in paella. I have been perfecting it ever since.“ He said this waving a red cape.

6. Javier Garrido With roots in the Canary Islands and summers spent as a child in the northern part of Spain, Javier learned the art of cooking paella when he was just a pollito. Today he combines his family’s 300-year-old recipe with Cuban and Florida Keys seafood flair. Javier prepares the dish with his sous chefs, Andrew and Annabel. 7. Team Bubba Cuzzies Conchs Patrick Lewin and Ben McPherson could not resist the gravitation pull that fused this duo in their quest for a glorious, memorable destiny, involving heat if not actual fire.

JARED KONERSMAN DERIK REAY

www.keysweekly.com

E

very musician has a different story about how he began a career in music. For Jared Konersman, that story has a few distinct chapters. Growing up in St. Louis, Jared spent his childhood and teenage years practicing all his favorite bands’ music. “Punk rock has always been the beat to my musical heart,” he said, and it was that passion for punk that started him on his musical journey – leading him to write two punk albums and actually go on tour with his punk band at age 20. “The raw arrangements, energy and passion that good punk rock offers has always been so inspiring and enjoyable for me,” he said. But that was just Chapter One. Jared eventually left his punk band and took “the adult route,” as he calls it, going to college to study business. But it didn’t take long for his love of music to win out and set him on his second chapter. In his words, he “dropped out a few years later to move to Key West,” when he was invited by a friend to audition for The Durtbags — the house band at Durty Harry’s on Duval Street. Jared was hired in March 2010, and he smiles when he thinks about the audition, and about learning he got the gig. “I try to thank Ron Gregorcic of the Durtbags as much as possible for giving a crazy 23-year-old a chance!”

After playing with The Durtbags for three years, Jared jumped across the street to Irish Kevin’s, where he has been ever since, mainly performing the late night shows with his friend Jim Simonian on drums. These days, he said he is “just continuing to build my repertoire of good songs” — and working on expanding his styles of playing. “I’ve always been a rhythm guitar player,” he said, “but lately I’ve been working on my lead chops — luckily there are some great players on this island I can look up to!” When asked how he knew he should leave college and get back into the world of music, Jared smiles again and doesn’t think twice before answering. “When I have a guitar in my hand, I forget about everything. It’s better than any drug out there, I guarantee that.”

imberly drove down for a road trip four years ago and ended up staying in Key West. “It was an easy decision to stay,” she said. Upon arrival, she immediately found a job at Grunts, where she still bartends, and has spent mornings and afternoons for the past two years at The Green Pineapple Cafe. “I get some of the most interesting people coming through here,” she said from the bar area found in the back of The Green Pineapple boutique on Duval Street. “And I get to work with fun, great people.” Her go-to wine: Decero, an Argentinian Malbec that she says has a good feel on the palate. The cafe also serves beer, coffees and teas. The menu is filled with mostly organic, house-made pastries and items that are good for the soul. Kimberly’s favorite is the Zen Bite. “It’s a really popular protein peanut butter chocolate ball,” she said. The cafe is frequented by powerhouses from the yoga studio behind the store. When she isn’t working, she likes hanging at the beach and cooking. On the specials menu at The Green Pineapple Cafe is one of her creations, Chana masala. “It’s an Indian dish, served hot,” she said. “It’s a lot like a curry dish.” The Green Pineapple is located at 1130 Duval St.

T

he year was 1959. David and Charlotte Elwell had just moved to Marathon from New Jersey and their first order of business was to open up a Cash & Carry grocery store at 1757 Overseas Highway in Marathon. Throughout the years, the building has stayed in the Elwell family. “Old Town used to be the center hub of the community,” said Marathon’s Royal Furniture owner Ryan Elwell. “The times have changed.” The Elwell family is moving the furniture warehouse from the 6,800 square feet 17th Street location to the new 15,000 square feet location at 6001 Overseas Highway in Marathon. “It’s bittersweet,” said Elwell, who added that the move has been a long time coming. “But, we needed more space and more parking.” First on his to-do list is the upcoming grand opening celebration taking place on Saturday, May 6. “I can’t take the credit for the idea,” Elwell said, citing his brother Christopher’s charitable notion. The Elwell family has been doing charitable events throughout the Keys for decades, with strong roots in Marathon branching to Key West. “We finally have the space to be able to do more things in Marathon that give back to the community and we couldn’t be happier.” As for the original building, major maintenance is planned for the dated space, which will continue to be a retail space, but nothing has been finalized yet.

“We appreciate all that the Elwell family does for children and families in our community, including donating 100 percent of the funds raised from the grand opening to help promote positive parenting and assist with necessities such as diapers, baby wipes and baby food.” – Jeremy Wilkerson, Wesley House Family Services

Grand Opening Gala and Dinner for Wesley House Family Services On Saturday, May 6 from 6 to 9 p.m. Royal Furniture will be having a dinner to celebrate the grand opening of the new store in Marathon. The Iron Chefs will be cooking with an open bar, entertainment and silent auction, including a two-night stay at Little Palm Island, a stay at Faro Blanco with boat slip, a Lazy-Boy recliner, and more. Tickets are $75 and proceeds benefit Wesley House Family Services. Call 305-809-5000 to reserve a spot.

W

hat do you get when you mix six great short plays, seven consummate actors, some clever Marky Pierson videos, the entire McDonald theatrical family, and stuff them all into the Red Barn Theatre for a couple of hours? A whole lot of fun. That’s what Short Attention Span Theatre has always been at the Red Barn, for both the audiences and the actors. And after a two-year hiatus, the Red Barn is bringing back the spring playfest. SAST – as it’s referred to – opens Tuesday, April 25 for a threeweek run. Dubbed “Brief Encounters” and all new for 2017, the plays all deal with momentary encounters between people … or in some cases, talking penguins or dolphins. All curtains are at 8 p.m. “We got a lot of help from Suzi Westfall at City Theatre in Miami,” said Mimi McDonald, managing director of Red Barn and one of the directors in this year’s SAST. “They have perfected the art of the short play there, and she sent me about fifty scripts. So we were able to find six really great ones, including some South Florida playwrights

like Rich Orloff, and the always-popular Shel Silverstein.” Populating the plays will be some of the top talents from this season’s stage offerings at all of Key West’s theaters, including Marjorie Paul-Shook, Lisa Elena Monda, Erin McKenna, Susannah Wells, Gordon Mackey, Aramis Ikatu, and newcomer Cody Borah. “It’s a great way for us to work with all these folks at once,” McDonald said, “and it lets us finish off the season with

a bang … go out on a limb and just let it all hang out. I can’t tell you how much fun it is.” Directing will be the entire McDonald clan, including Mimi, husband Gary, son Jack, daughter Amber McDonald Good, and close family friends Susannah Wells and Richard Grusin. “You can imagine what our dinners have been like lately,” McDonald said. Marky Pierson, of Wonderdog Studios, along with Wells as cinematographer and director, will be providing video interludes. “They’re very kitchy and goofy,” said Pierson, “but at the same time, well thought-out and executed. The gist is aliens and the kinds of encounters you can have with them – of the first, second, third kind. But given the show’s title – ‘Brief Encounters’ – you can guess how we’ll be dressed.” Morgan Fraga stars with Pierson in the videos. Short Attention Span Theatre will be the final mainstage production of the Red Barn’s season. There will be a catered after-party on Opening Night that ticketholders for that evening’s performance are welcome to attend. Tickets are available at redbarntheatre. com/tickets or the box office at 305296-9911. — Contributed

The Rotary Club of Key West recently inducted monumental members to their coveted Hall of Fame, along with naming their Rotary Legends at the club’s 101st Anniversary Gala. Among the honorees, the late Gerald “Moe” Mosher was named to the Hall of Fame. Mr. Moe was joined by John Parks Jr and Edward Toppino,. And Peter Batty, Pat Labrada, Robin Lockwood, Scott Oropeza and Virgina Panico were named amongst “Rotary Legends.” Panico, the EVP of the Marathon Chamber of Commerce, was the first female to be inducted—adding to a momentous evening at the Beachside Marriott. The club also honored Chaz Jimenez with the Key West High School Coach of the Year. Yet the evening belonged to the incredible display of Key West legacies, as many of the inductees were introduced by their children and grandchildren, whom have all followed in the footsteps of Rotary’s “sevice before self.” — Weekly Staff report BRITT MYERS/Keys Weekly 1.
