Creating Legacy and Making Our Mark

Bhawna’s life is full of interesting people, places, and activities, and she is a woman hungry to experience all that life has to offer. After years of having a small, restricted life, she is living in a community in which she can stretch herself, and even grow into herself.

The team who supports her understand how the skills that Bhawna learns tie closely to allowing her to fill important roles in her community. They also know that keeping a close eye on Bhawna’s interests and natural gifts help them understand the direction her life is heading.

When they first met Bhawna, a year ago, they noticed that she loved to get a hold of the mobile phones that belonged to other people and look through their photos. Sometimes, she was reluctant to return them. They realized, far from this being a problem, Bhawna also wants to capture her own life, and friends and events, creating a legacy and a record of her place in the world. They helped her to obtain a digital camera and learn to use it. Now, she is developing the skills to print the photographs that mark her important presence in the world, the rich experiences she is having, and the people who are accompanying her in her life. Everyone wants to leave a mark on the world in some way, to leave a legacy that says our life matters and we each matter. Bhawna teaches us this every day, as she becomes an amateur photographer who captures moments that matter.
