Corey ALLEGRUCCI Quest Diagnostics, Forensic Scientist Keystone College prepared me for my future by providing the knowledge necessary to succeed in my field of study. The faculty always made sure the curriculum was up to standards to effectively prepare the students for rewarding careers. Personally, I believe Keystone was the perfect fit for me. I made friends that I will keep for a lifetime and supportive connections with faculty that wouldn’t be possible at a bigger school. Keystone was one of the first schools to offer a validation class in the field in which I work. With the faculty support and continuous upgrading of the curriculum, I believe Keystone’s educational process played a critical role in securing my professional position. As I look back on my time at Keystone, I can truly say I was blessed with having an amazing experience. I ran track and competed in the decathlon and some single events like hurdles, where I still hold three school records. I was vice president of the forensic science club and had the opportunity to do internships with the Scranton Police Department and the County Coroner. The Keystone College experience exceeded what I ever thought it could be and I will always be proud to be a Keystone Alumnus.

Emily PHARR I earned my bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and psychology at Keystone College. Getting my degree in psychology at Keystone has prepared me for two of the most important and significant milestones in my life. I was able to work as a volunteer at AmeriCorps and was accepted to the graduate college of my choice. The knowledge I learned from the psychology and criminal justice departments made the perfect mixture for my masters degree in forensic and legal psychology. What made my experience at Keystone College the most meaningful was the student to teacher ratio. It always sounds like a cliché when people say that about small colleges, but it’s true! A professor being able to stop you and share they liked your work is what I believe builds that personal connection to motivation and education. What also made my Keystone College experience special was the amount of classes I was able to choose from. There was such a variety in the psychology classes, I was really able to tailor them to what would prepare me best for life after college. After graduation, I left feeling confident and prepared with the knowledge and experiences I gained at Keystone College.

For one of my internships, I was a part of the Sea Turtle Conservation and Research Program at Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium in Sarasota, Fla. We devoted every morning to walking 35+ miles of beach to look for sea turtle activity. The program’s main goal is to help protect sea turtle nests from all human activity and land predators, if possible. When coming across sea turtle activity, I took data and measurements, and looked for eggs to verify turtle nests. After checking on each nest for an average incubation period of 55 days, we helped make sure as many baby hatchlings made it safely out to sea as possible— either by excavating monitored nests or just watching them go into the ocean without a problem. This internship helped me realize how incredibly important conservation programs are. Many people do not realize how quickly our marine ecosystem is dying and the effects that can have on the human population and the environment. Through my internship I have learned the ins and outs of a conservation program, and realized what I would like to pursue a career in— marine ecology. Climate change and the conservation of the marine ecosystem go hand-in-hand, and one day I would love to do my part to help preserve the ocean and all animals that live in it.

When it came time to look for colleges, I had a lot of different options to choose from. I didn’t think I would come to Keystone because it was the closest to home and, like a lot of people, I thought going away to school might be cool. However, I couldn’t be more grateful that I came to Keystone College. Truly my entire life is what it is because I went to Keystone. The faculty at Keystone College, and specifically the accounting department, were always there to help me achieve my goals. I never felt like I was alone in the world when I had them by my side.

5

One of my biggest recommendations for students is to obtain an internship to get some real-world experience. In the accounting profession, there are a lot of different career paths that you can choose. I didn’t quite know which path I wanted to take. It wasn’t until my internship at a tax office that I realized that that’s what I wanted to do with my life. I am, without a doubt, where I am now because of KEYSTONE COLLEGE | WWW.KEYSTONE.EDU that internship.

Apply to KC Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis throughout the year. We recommend early application prior to the semester in which studies will begin. This will afford students an early decision, and priority in merit scholarship selection and financial aid awarding. Specific directions for various student situations can be found at www.keystone.edu/ applynow.

Come See KC! To register for an event or schedule an individual visit and tour go to www.keystone.edu/visit, call 1-800-824-2764 opt. 2 or e-mail us at admissions@keystone.edu.

Test Optional Policy Keystone College recently adopted a testoptional admissions policy. Research has shown that high school GPA is a much stronger indicator of academic ability and a more reliable predictor of college success. Standardized test scores will be considered if submitted, and applicants are encouraged to submit scores if they believe the results are a positive reflection of their academic ability. Keystone reserves the right to request scores in some cases.

Scholarship Opportunities Every student who is admitted to Keystone may be considered for one of ten merit scholarships. In addition, a number of donor-supported, program-specific and need-based scholarships are available.

Keystone VETS The Keystone College Veterans Educational Transition and Support program (KCVETS) coordinates programs and services across campus to better assist our veteran students. This effort takes each veteran from “boots to books,” culminating in a successful and satisfying completion of the college experience.
