From the Editor Hey Key Clubbers!

DBE Am elia Camp bell

Right of the bat, this issue was the hardest for me to write. I have been doing these for about 2 years now and I can safely say this was the most challenging to find the motivation to do. (I still don't think I've found it but we're here). Welcome to this month's issue! It will be my last one for this 2020-2021 year. The experience of being apart of the board and creating what is essentially a review of the entire district has had its ups and downs but I can definitely say that I am glad I did it. It's been a pleasure having this job during these times as it has certainly helped to distract from everything going on This is the 5th and final edition of the Xaymaca Key Volume 34 and as is customary at the end of the year, there will be a DCON 2021! In this issue, you will also see club activities and services that occurred between January 1st and February 28th. Special Clubs will be highlighted and featured plus there will be fun and updates on the district's activities. Remember, #stopthespread by staying safe, wearing a mask (especially at services). We know you are all exemplary members of your community and it has been hard maintaining that serviceable personality but it is not all for naught as you will see shortly. Thank you to every club representative and bulletin editor that sent in your activities. It is always greatly appreciated and I hope you enjoy seeing your work featured in this forum. All that said... sit back, swipe, read and absorb what our District has been up to.

BLOOD DONORS AWARENESS MONTH

Check out our website www.keyclub jamaica.com

January is recognized world wide as Blood donor Awareness Month. At this time there are places with major shortages of blood due to hospitals being overwhelmed. therefore, we saw it fit to ask the key clubbers to spread awareness about blood donation and encourage those that are able-bodied to do so.

SPECIAL CLUB FEATURE

Bridgeport High School High School Key Club is still finding creative ways to give back to their community. On Saturday, February 6, 2021, the club did a joint project with the school’s environmental club under the theme ‘Keeping our Environment Clean for our Future Teens.' Members from both clubs cleaned up an area behind the school's Science Block where bottles and other debris were strewn. Saturday’s activity was an initiative suggested by the school's Principal Mrs. B. Harris. This came just before the school starts its face-to-face Bridgeport High School Key Club & learning on a phased-system Monday, Environmental Club Joint Project. In spite of the challenges caused by the February 8th. The cleanup activity will be an ongoing one for the Key Club. CoVID-19 Pandemic, the Bridgeport

SPECIAL CLUB FEATURE Dunoon Park Technical High School The LG and Team of Division One, organized a cake sale for the related clubs to support as a fundraiser for the division’s project, but to get the clubbers to purchase their slices of sumptuous cake would prove to be a challenge with everyone being away from school and residing in some faraway places. Our Club Faculty Advisor brainstormed and came up with a strategy - get persons to sponsor slices of cakes and donate the equivalent of two cakes to two children’s home that we have established club relationships – Reddies Place of Safety and Glenhope Nursery and at the same time earn the funds for the project. It worked and we were successful in getting persons to purchase over 25 slices of cakes that were equivalent to 2 cakes.

Our first visit was at Glenhope Nursery where we delivered a cake, cereal and snacks to the home. Reddies would be visited at a later date.

project Update

Januray 8th Distribution

On Friday January 8,2021 members of Division seven received tablets as apart of this year’s district project. Lieutenant governor Keeno-lee James led the proceedings which followed remarks by Zone coordinator and Distinguished president of the Kiwanis club of Westmoreland Jermaine Williams who encouraged the young leaders to make use of this opportunity. Our special guest was DG Hope Marks who is also a candidate for Kiwanis international trustee. DG Hope encouraged the young leaders as well to make use of the privilege that has been afforded to them. The recipients came from Belmont Academy, Manning’s school, Hampton school and Munro college. All students were thankful for the donation as now they would be able to participate fulltime in online lessons which has been a struggle since the onset of the pandemic Written by LtG Keeno-Lee James

KCJA DUES REPORT As a district, we were able to receive due payments from over 60 of our 75 clubs!

Extended

We are thankful to all those who made the sacrifice to become international members this year. Even more special thanks to the Key Clubbers that renewed their membership and continue to make this

organization strong in numbers! The 60 plus clubs include clubs that have made some level of payment, whether full payment or partial payment. We commend the effort of all those who helped to inspire members to finance our organization once again. We are aware of how hard it has been keeping your spirits alive and the fact that you were able still driven to give speaks volumes! Total district numbers are growing every day with approximately 1200 paid members, to date.
