KEY CLUB WEEK NOVEMBER 2ND-6TH

We had our annual Key Club spirit week! Each day of the week, we had an activity for all our members to take part in. Thank you to everyone who participated and sent us your beautiful photos!

NOVEMBER FUNDRAISER NOVEMBER 14TH

We had so much fun in our discord Earth Scavenger Hunt! We learned of so many amazing sites and famous landmarks all over the world.

Although this event was free, we encourage everyone to donate to the Thirst Project! Every cent counts!

MUTUAL AID 101 NOVEMBER 16TH AND 23RD

There were two Mutual Aid events that were online workshops to learn about mutual aid basics. We learned how we can support our neighbors through local networks and better our community everyday.

CALLING COVID-19 FOOD SITES NOVEMBER 18TH

There was another repair the world webinar this month that discussed how we can call food pickup sites and confirm that their info is up to date. This is important for sellers and customers, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.

PHONE BANK NOVEMBER 19TH

The last repair event this month was the Phone Bank to Support Isolated Seniors meeting. In this, members were matched with a senior in isolation to have conversations with them. This is a great way to give back to our community and meet new, amazing people!

DISTRICT FALL CONFERENCE NOVEMBER 21ST-22ND The first virtual New York District Key Club fall conference was held near the end of the month. We engaged in fun workshops, played games and had the opportunity to listen to great speakers. We met so many cool, new people and learned more of how to run for higher office.

SAY THANKS! ONGOING My fellow board members compiled a list of links in which our key club members can access to say thank you to first responders and essential workers throughout this pandemic. Words can change anyone's day!

FREERICE ONGOING The United Nations World Food Programme, a humanitarian organization, is saving lives and building a better future for the hungry through an app that helps them afford grains of rice called Freerice.

How does Freerice work? It is a free app to download that allows everyone to donate 10 grains of rice to families in need by answering questions correctly playing a multiple-choice quiz game.

Our members can start transcribing or adding to a transcription of a document. Once you're finished with your work, another volunteer will review it. The transcript is then sent to the Smithsonian to be approved. It can be used immediately or undergo more revisions.

PROJECT GIVINGTHANKS ONGOING RAMIZAH TAYIBA

A group of high schoolers at Arcadia High School in California created Project Giving Thanks. They aim to spread positivity to essential workers during the coronavirus pandemic.

We asked our Key Club members to send post-it messages, artwork, and videos to essential workers, first responders, healthcare workers, and grocery workers. KELLY LIM

QUEENS MEMORY COVID PROJECT ONGOING

We asked our Key Club members to contribute by submitting their testimony, photos, and videos from home.

The Queens College Library and Queens Public Library created the Queens Memory COVID-19 Project, a borough-wide archiving campaign collecting personal stories of people in the middle of the covid-19 pandemic.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT MONTH OF NOVEMBER

MITHILA CHOWDHURY

As IΓ’€™m a freshman, I saw an opportunity of doing volunteer work in key club which led me to joining. It may be my first time along with it being virtual however I already have learned various things. I enjoy doing small things for others like giving a thank you note to someone, talking about the pandemic, or just helping the community in general. I have developed skills of hard work, dedication, and working together. This club is beneficial for college thus another reason to join. Being in Key Club is an amazing decision to make and I canΓ’€™t wait to see what will come more in the future especially when we go back to actual school.
