Weather: Rainy Just Sold - 3 Just Listed - 6 Properties You Should Invest In

the TD Five Borough Bike Tour took place on a rainy May day. During this event, Key Clubbers were given the opportunity to help by handing out different snacks, like bananas, energy bars and gels, fruit snacks, and water! We also helped the bikers stay on track, and make sure not to take a wrong turn.

Above is Emma Wu, messing around.

Those in charge were very kind, providing us with ponchos, free lunches, Tshirts, and bags to thank us for helping out. the rainy weather most definitely did not DAMP-en our moods. we had lots of fun with each other as well as with volunteers from other schools. Some of our freshmen even came!

LUNG FORCE WALK

WEATHER: HOT HOT HOT!

LUNG FORCE WALK May 18th was a youcan-fry-eggs-on-thesidewalk kind of day! our members were melting, but they worked through it to help support victims of lung cancer.

KATIE VO: "It was very inspiring to watch the hundreds of people march for their loved ones lives that were lost to lung cancer and raise money to bring awareness to the cause and help fight lung cancer."

AIDS Walk May 19th, 2019

WEATHER: A NICE SPRING DAY AIDS walk was a wonderful event in which our members walked to support those with AIDS. It was a comfortable spring day for a walk, and many people were there! Francis Lewis, as well as other Division 8 Key Clubs, powered through this event for those afflicted with AIDS. Many members thought it was good exercise for them, and felt a sense of accomplishment and pride after completing the walk.

Congratulations for

finishing the walk!

"Passport to Taiwan was a scorching hot day that started really early. Members came in a morning and afternoon shift. I was part of the Key Club helped to set up tents, tables, and chairs, and were then given different jobs. MEMBER SPOTLIGHT Freshman Key Club Member

DAMIAN YOUNG One of our newest family members!

"I LIKE CHICKEN FRIED RICE"

I haven't known Damian for very long, but I can tell he is a dedicated member of Key Club(though he has yet to pay his dues). He attends many events, more than I had as a freshman, and is very engaged during volunteering. Albeit shy, Damian has made many freinds, even from different schools, and has become a valuable member of our family. -Emma Wu, Editor of Francis Lewis Key Club

and now, a word from our freshman Key club is a very important aspect of my life. It’s helped me to unlock new characteristics and a certain happiness by helping those in need. Key club has offered me a whole other life, where I think of the people as friends and family. Ive made a lot of friends not only in my own school key club but also other schools as well. The people in key club are all genuine and caring. They don’t only care about key club shenanigans but they will get to know you even outside of key club. I have gotten to know most of my board members and they have all been very supportive, funny, and friendly. Not only were new friendships established but I was able to obtain hours. The more hours you have, the better. Although the Francis Lewis key club requirement is 40 hours before the end of each season, I try to gain at least 100 by the end of each season. There are possibly only two negatives of key club in my opinion. On some volunteer days, you must wake up quite early in order to attend the meet up. Of course the meet ups are not mandatory but it feels more safe and exciting to be commuting with everyone rather than alone. Secondly, the weather can be quite a nuisance. Some days can be rainy, snowy, or extremely hot. Luckily, the hosts will sometimes cancel or reschedule the events to another date if necessary. Putting those two aside, the events are always fun to hangout with friends and help volunteer. Meet ups usually occur at flushing library, and most events are in manhattan, but places will always vary (check facebook). We attend volunteering events, marches, walks, or fundraisers. You’re offered a free shirt at almost all events and the shirts sometimes are very appealing. If you’re lucky sometimes, you get featured in your key clubs pictures or videos for your instagram page. After all the events we often get food as a whole. Events often range from 112 hours and they will honestly be the best hours of your day. I’ve enjoyed my first year in key club and I know I’ll enjoy my next 3 years.

These graffiti artists are looking for volunteers. This is your chance to paint the town red - literally.
