I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS SERVICE YEAR AS WE TRANSITION TO IN PERSON LEARNING AND I HOPE TO FIND AND INITIATE FUN EVENTS FOR KEY CLUB. I LOVE KEY CLUB BECAUSE THROUGH THIS CLUB WE BUILD A COMMUNITY AND ALSO HELP TO GIVE BACK TO OUR COMMUNITY THROUGH VOLUNTEERING.
BEING PART OF KEY CLUB SO FAR HAS BEEN A VERY ENJOYABLE EXPERIENCE. THERE ARE SO MANY EVENTS THAT PEOPLE CAN CHOOSE FROM AND COMPLETE WHENEVER IT FITS BEST INTO THEIR SCHEDULE. NO MATTER WHICH ONE YOU PARTICIPATE IN, IT'S GREAT TO KNOW THAT YOU ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN OUR COMMUNITY OR EVEN THOSE AROUND THE WORLD. 1) How has Key Club had an impact on you? Key Club has significantly impacted how much I get involved and know about my community. This is directly reflected in webinars that I attend that allow me to understand the issues people are facing in society during this period that is not normal due to the pandemic. Especially how this is not a normal year it has allowed me to grow not only as a person but also as a leader to become more responsible in attending events, meetings, and making sure that I and my friends that attend Key Club are achieving the 40 hours minimum needed. And lastly, this club has also helped me to develop skills that are vital for the future, and become more interactive and engaged at school.
2) Explain why you would recommend other to join this club. There are many reasons why I would recommend others to join Key Club! First, attending this club allows you to understand more about what is going on within your community that you may not know of, such as one of the webinars at the beginning of this year talked about how people in the frontlines were not getting the things including masks and gloves. This might inspire some of us to raise awareness about this issue or directly take actions that can be taken to your extent. Secondly, Key Club also helps to build organization, responsibility, and leadership skills as you are in charge of making sure to attend meetings and events. Besides, this club is also a club that is more opened where it allows for not only you but also your peers to get involved in paying back to your community as you can attend events together (in this case as we are remote, webinars). Overall, joining Key Club is a great opportunity for everyone as it is a time for socializing and leadership building.

BAYSIDE X FRANNY PENPAL EVENT "In the month of May, I participated in the Bayside x Francis Lewis Pen Pal Event. I decided to participate in this event because I’m always looking to meet new people and to represent FLHSKC! This event was super fun because I was able to meet new people and play games while also earning hours! I found it very interesting that we got to meet new Key Clubbers from another school! Overall, I would say this event is entertaining, and I’m still earning hours!" - Jena Kim (sophomore)

National Teacher's Appreciation Day Messages NATIONAL TEACHERS DAY IS CELEBRATED ON THE FIRST TUESDAY OF MAY. TO CELEBRATE, WE HOLDED AN EVENT DEDICATED TO OUR TEACHERS. THEY HAVE BEEN LEARNING THE ROPES OF VIRTUAL ZOOM/ GOOGLE MEET CLASSES SINCE THE START OF THE PANDEMIC AND IT'S IMPORTANT WE APPRECIATE THEM. OUR MEMBERS SHOWED THEIR APPRECIATION FOR THEIR FAVORITE TEACHERS BY SENDING THEM AN EMAIL AND LETTING THEM KNOW HOW IMPORTANT THEY ARE!

In this current environment of the pandemic, increased racial aggression, and continuing uncertainty, Asian Pacific American Coalition (APAC) invited community leaders to come together to discuss the “State of the Asian Pacific American Community”.

GENDER JUSTICE: DISMANTLING SOCIAL JUSTICE
Members attended the webinar where the youth dismantled the harmful structures of sexism, homophobia, transphobia, and patriarchy that have stifled the freedom for people to be who they choose to be, where they want to work, how much they are compensated, and where they can live safely without the burden of bigotry and inequality.
FIRST FUNDRAISER OF THE SERVICE YEAR May 13th
ASIAN/PACIFIC AMERICAN HERITAGE FUNDRAISER Our members gave back to the Asian and Pacific Community by watching three movies whose cast comprised of mostly Asians and Pacific Islanders! Each movie costed 2 dollars and all the proceeds were donated to Stand with Asian Americans Funds!

The theme of this event, Roots of Coalition, focused on "community growth and resilience as we process our histories of seeking justice and solidarity." They reconnected to their indigenous roots in hopes of inviting conversations that prompts healing, reflection, and coalition.

BEAN BEAN BEAN "In May, I decided to participate in one of FLHSKC’s ongoing events, called BeanBeanBean. I decided to participate because I enjoyed the fun graphics and questions they provided, where for every question answered correctly, virtual “beans” would be donated to a charity called the World Food Programme. (In actuality, the “beans'' were converted into money, then donated to the charity). I enjoyed how quick and easy this event was, as well as the very cool gif displayed at the end when I donated my beans! "During the month of May, I participated in the event called Free Rice. I decided to participate in Free Rice because I've noticed that people in this world are starving or unprivileged compared to us; answering basic multiplication problems allowed me to donate 15,690 grains of rice to people in need. The best part of this event is that I positively affected another family or children's life by answering easy questions that donated grains of rice. Overall, Free Rice was such a fun and addicting event; answering the questions became so fun that I would always do it during my free time or watching Netflix, and I received 10 hours for this event!! I decided to participate in Send a Message to St. Judes because I want to do everything I could for people who are struggling. Hey guys! Hope everyone's doing okay! I know some of us took AP exams this month and how stressful it was but it's finally over and now it's time to relax a bit. There are a few AP exams in June and I wish you good luck for it!! This month has been extremely stressful for me and I am sure for you too so it's important we take time for ourselves and do things that comfort us, whether it be reading, playing games, singing, dancing, etc. School will be over in just a few more days so keeping that in mind, work to the best of your abilities to get done with finals, APs, projects, etc. and enjoy your summer break!!! yours truly, Adhishree <3
