Maheen Ali I enjoyed being Key Club’s editor for my service year. I learned a lot about communication and working alongside others. My fellow board members were amazing and some of the best people out there. Although it was difficult at times to keep up with everything around me, I preserved and came out more determined than ever. Being a part of this community has taught me that any obstacle can be conquered by determination and drives you to improve yourself. During my time serving, I thoroughly cherished reading more about my fellow Key Club members. Even during the pandemic, writing about outstanding members helped me learn more about our community and the people in it. My advice for the new board members is to never lose motivation! I hate the feeling of being unproductive and don’t want others to obtain that same emotion because it prevents you from accomplishing your goals. Furthermore, I would like to stress about not stressing too much. In my opinion, it is perfectly fine to have time for yourself if you need it. This club is supposed to be rewarding, but at the same time it should be something you enjoy. The only improvement I would like to see in the future is a better system of communication, especially in times where you constantly have to adapt to new situations. Remember, this is a community, so you must learn how to work together with all types of people and come to agreements for the betterment of the club and its members. Adhishree Fnu Hey Key Clubbers! My name is Adhishree and I will be your editor for the '21 - '22 service year! I joined Key Club in my freshman year because my friends were talking about it and I am honestly so happy I decided to give it a try. The freshman year me would have been surprised by my decision to apply for a board position in sophomore year because I was so shy. But key club certainly played a big role in making me feel more confident and getting rid of that shyness. I really love painting and art even though I am not very good at it. The thing that I do the most is reading. I love reading all genres but my favorites are mystery/thriller, classics and romance. I also love listening to music, usually pop music. I recently developed a passion for photography and I hope to get better at it. I am extremely excited to work with the board and the club members. My main goal is to work hard to make newsletters that not only look good but are also informative and clear. If you guys have any suggestions that would make the newsletters more appealing and fun to read, please do not be afraid to email me or message me on Instagram. In addition to that, please feel free to email me about the member of the month suggestions. By the way, you get 30 minutes of service for being the member of the month. I am always open to advice. I also want to continue volunteering and contribute to our community as much as I can. Katelyn Chen Hey Key Clubbers ! (ˊ̥̥̥ ³ ˋ̥)̥̥ I hope all of you and your families are safe and healthy! It’s officially been over a year since this whole pandemic happened, and I can’t lie, my last service year ending here is a little bittersweet. Key Club has definitely been a huge influence in my life, from freshman year till this very moment, I’ve been able to grow so much as a person. Despite not spending this service year in person, it was still a wonderful time to serve all of you alongside my board members. It wasn’t easy being President of a 200-300 member club; however, I definitely enjoyed the sense of responsibility along with the opportunity to build leadership. My time in Key Club will be defined by the memorable memories made along with the lasting impact I have hopefully left on FLHSKC. To my board members: you guys were amazing to work with throughout this hectic service year. Although I couldn’t spend club meetings or go to events in person, you guys were a remarkable & hardworking group. (Also, I’m very proud of Esther for becoming LTG!) To my future board, you were chosen from a very formidable group of applicants. Based on what I’ve seen, you all seem capable of handling your upcoming service year with grace & diligence! Jena Kim Hello Key Clubbers! If I may introduce myself, my name is Jena Kim (she/her) and I have the honor to be serving as your Key Club President for the 2021-2022 service year. I became involved with Key Club in my freshman year of high school, and it has been a wild ride since. I’m so thrilled for all the possibilities that Key Club is going to have in store, and I certainly promise to bring the best ideas I have to the table. So a little about myself— I love animals and all things cute! My current obsession is scrolling on Twitter learning about new phenomenons, but if I’m not doing that you can catch me watching anime on Crunchyroll. I adore the series “Haikyuu,” as it’s undoubtedly one of the best animes I’ve watched. I enjoy being involved with my community, which is undoubtedly the KEY reason why I joined Key Club. I’d love to illustrate my uttermost gratitude for the members of Key Club, as without your enthusiasm and perseverance throughout this pandemic, Key Club wouldn’t be where it is today. Considering the circumstances of this year, I will entrust myself and my board to increase opportunities and engagement for all. Keep an eye out for new challenges that will arise! As someone who loves to participate in events and meet new people, I know achieving that goal virtually can be challenging. Michelle Shi During my 2020-2021 board year I have learned a lot of dedication and listening skills. It is important to talk to communicate with your board members. As vice-president it is important to communicate well with the president. It is also key to be present at all the weekly meetings even though it is virtual. It takes time and dedication to show up to all the weekly meetings and the divisional meetings. This year was harder to adapt to since everything was virtual and impossible to go to in person events which I enjoyed. However, this was a different experience that I am grateful to have been able to take part of. I have been a part of Key Club since freshman year and it has significantly impacted my life as did this position allow me to have a bigger insight on leadership. For the future board, I highly recommend you guys to do board bonding, whether it's virtual or in person. It is important to get to know each other so it’s not awkward since everyone will be working closely together. I hope to see more activities during the weekly meetings and if continued to be virtual the members opening their cameras. We don’t know whether or not they are paying attention or off doing something else. It is also important to engage all the members so they don’t feel “ bored” or question the weekly meetings. I would recommend getting all the presentations and posts in time instead of getting it done last minute so it’s not too much of a hassle. Overall, enjoy your time as a board member! Jessica Kwong Hey Franny Key Clubbers, If you don’t know me yet, my name is Jessica and I’ll be your Key Club Vice President for the ’21 – ’22 service year! I first became involved in Key Club during my freshman year when some friends at another school recommended it. At first, I was skeptical of the $15 dues and how this club could even benefit me, but Key Club allowed me to become more social as high school is an unpredictable place with unfamiliar faces. I’m so excited to be working with you all this year and I can’t wait to see what is in store for us for the new service year! To get to know me better, I enjoy socializing with friends, and especially family, however, you can often find me hooked on my phone. Although I tend to be picky, my favorite food is sushi. I love love LOVE animals and if you take me to a shelter, I can spend days there, however I do get EXTREMELY emotionally attached. Bowling is my favorite sport, and I enjoy dancing during my free time, though I’m definitely NOT the best at it. I may seem shy when you first meet me, but as I open up, I have a totally different personality; different people bring out different sides of someone, you know? Anyway, I hope to introduce more service projects and fundraisers to make the Franny Key Club be more tight-knit. My fellow board members and I will work together to make Key Club more active and engaging for you, the members! Lana Kim Hey Key Clubbers! My service and high school years are coming to an end! I joined Key Club in my freshman year and originally had no idea what I was getting myself into. Throughout the beginning of my freshman year, I attended nearly every event because of how fun they were. Going into a school as large as this one can be terrifying, but Key Club made this easier. The events I went to, like Light the Night and even Kiwani fundraisers, are a memory that have shaped me into who I am today. A simple thing like volunteering on weekends can create a long lasting impact on your character, all through Key Club. Throughout the 2020-2021 service year, FLHSKC has gone through a lot, yet members were still able to persist and stay active even being virtual. Newly-joined members won’t have the experience of going to an event in-person, and going to the Queens Library before the sun even rises which is pretty disappointing, but one day it will all come back and we must anticipate that! Through Key Club, I was able to give back to my community, meet new people, and most definitely develop my leadership skills. Through the Monday meetings and all the members contacting me, I learned to be punctual and stay on top of my responsibilities. The upcoming board exemplifies the qualities of future leaders in this club, and I know they will not take these roles just to disappoint. I hope that all members will continue to participate in these events and get more service hours, as i'm sure the following board will find new and exciting events! Jocelyn Tung My name is Jocelyn Tung. I am a current junior, and one of your secretaries for the incoming service year! Some of my interests are gaming and baking. I enjoy baking cookies, cakes, and macarons! However, I am always open to new recipes, and always looking to try new things! My academic interest resides in the scientific field. In fact I would love to major in biology and attend graduate school after undergraduate to become a physician’s assistant! In my free time, I involve myself in community service. I enjoy traveling to new places and exploring! In the future, I would like to travel to different countries around the world, to not only see new places and people but to eat delicious treats! I love trying new foods and eating in general. I am interested in fashion and constantly spend all my money on new clothes. I enjoy watching anime and Netflix shows when I have free time on my hands. I’m always looking for recommendations for new animes or shows to watch, so if you know any good ones please hit me up! During my service year, I would love to get to know more members and interact with them more. Some changes I would like to implement are to have more engagement during our meetings whether they are in person or on zoom, and to input hours and complete tasks in a more timely fashion. I would also like to get closer with my board members and develop a special bond that lasts beyond just our service year. Even though, I’ll be graduating in a year, I would still like to maintain my bond with the board members and club members. Esther Kim Hi Key Clubbers! It’s already been a year since I was elected as a secretary for our club! Now, we have new board members, new members in the club, and even new ways of doing things in the club. Who knew this was how we would spend our year! Nonetheless, I’m still so very glad to have been given a fun and interesting opportunity. Throughout this year, I’ve lived through lots of different experiences in Key Club, whether it was putting wristbands on people for a walk, or creating a powerpoint presentation. I know many of you may not have been able to experience what Key Club really is like, or still may not understand the meaning behind it, but I believe that everyone, including the new board members, will be able to introduce all of you to that and maybe even find a bigger passion for it, because I know I did. To the new board members, I know you guys will do great, despite the changes we might have to face. Be nervous, be excited, be compassionate. Don’t worry if you feel overwhelmed or lost, because luckily enough, I will be sticking around! From the perspective of your new Lieutenant Governor, I would like to say that I am really excited to work with everyone, and this goes out to all, board members or not, but I hope I can be of assistance! Crystal Yam Hello! My name is Crystal Yam and I will be your secretary for Key Club. I am a freshman who recently joined and hopefully, we can get along well. Some fun fact about me is I am also a secretary for Science Olympiad, I recommend you to join if you enjoy science or enjoys the feeling of excitement when taking a test while earning awards because it will also benefit you in many ways, I was born on February 27th, 2005, I have a toy poodle named David and he is turning 5 years old on June 6th, I have two brothers who are fraternal twins, and some of my favorite thing I do is read mangas, watch anime, hang out with friends, and play video games. In my service year, I am excited about volunteering, helping others in need, giving positive energy, making memories, and providing interesting events to all of you. If we were not stuck in the pandemic, it would have been even more entertaining to receive our hours and make memories, but we got to work with what we have. So do not give up and take advantage of the situation as much as you can. Some things I would like to change and improve are giving out more events to choose from and providing more entertaining activities to earn extra hours. In order to work on that, the board members would provide new events every week and use Kahoot or Quizizz to make it more exciting. I am very excited to meet you all and hope we can see each other next year, stay safe everyone!

Leonardo Bernarbezheng Hi, I’m Leo, the treasurer for FLHS Key Club 2020-2021. As a treasurer, my duties included taking care of club dues and searching for events for fundraisers. Throughout this year, I would say there are areas that I did well, but there are also areas that I lacked. For example, I started slacking off in the later half of the year, leading to a reduced number of fundraisers. However, despite the pros and cons, my experience in Key Club as a board member was enjoyable. Working together with a group of people to promote a common goal, while also upholding the same values provided a great environment. For the upcoming board members, there is much to say, but I’ll keep it simple. Sooner or later, Quarantine is coming to an end. As that happens, we will be able to find events outside again, especially fundraisers. In the last few years of Key Club, my favorite events were all fundraisers, including pool, color run, ice-skating, and more. I’d like to see those again some time. Now for an actual advice, when it comes to key club tasks, make sure not to procrastinate, because it will take up a lot of your time. Asides that, I hope to see the board getting better and better, and seek out as many opportunities as you guys can, and pass on the values of Key Club. Sharon Lin Hello FLHS Key Clubbers! My name is Sharon Lin, a junior, and I will be your Treasurer for the 2021-2022 service year! I just turned 17 in February… I technically didn’t have a birthday this year because it is a leap year, so that’s exciting… But, some other things about me is that I have been playing the piano for as long as I can remember and that I love doing sports (even though I still suck at both of these two things). I also love scrolling through TikTok for hours on top of hours because it is just so addicting! My favorite movie genre is probably going to have to be romance. I love watching sappy love movies and tv shows because it is just so wholesome and makes me super happy. Lastly, I would love to say that I love Key Club. It has opened to so many new opportunities and allowed me to become more outgoing. Not only were events I attended fun, it also taught me the act of kindness and generosity. I encourage you all to involve yourself in Key Club so that you can really take in all the good that it brings! Some things I want to do for my service year this year is to implement more engaging and fun fundraisers for members to attend. I think that fundraising events are a great way to help out a cause while also having fun! I also hope to create more engagement in club meetings, alongside with other Key Club events. I am being grateful to be your Treasurer this year and I will make sure I serve you guys to the best of my abilities. I cannot wait to get started! Katie Vo It was sincerely an amazing honor to be serving as Francis Lewis High School Key Club's Webmaster for the service term years of 2020-2021. While almost all events were online and remote, I am so proud of the current board for the continuity of formalities of our club including meetings and interviews done in unison. Most importantly I am appreciative and in awe of all of Francis Lewis Key Club's novel and past members for the amazing turnout of each event and presence at each and every event, our weekly meetings, and monthly divisionals. It really showed the perpetual determination and empathy each member had for the community with the world in a time with such little hope and happiness. Thank you to every Francis Lewis Key Club member for an amazing service year even if I never met or talked to you personally; I am very thankful you gave our club a chance and I hope to see you continue your already amazing service <3 :D For the future board, I know we say all the time but contact us for any questions or help because we will always have time to answer any of your issues. Ken Wu Hey FLHS Key Clubbers! I’m Ken Wu, your upcoming webmaster for the 2021-2022 board! I am currently a Sophomore! I joined Key Club my Freshman year alone, and I wasn’t sure if I wanted to stay; however, Key Club is one of the best clubs in our school and gives you so many opportunities and new friendships! I enjoy binge-watching all types of shows and I listen to a variety of music as well. Although my favorite colors are blue and red, I love neutral tones. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my friends outdoors, but I am also a homebody. I also enjoy playing video games. I currently manage the Junior Varsity Cheerleading team. I am super excited to work with a new board and everyone in our club for this upcoming service year! Keep an eye out for a new website! I really hope to retain more of our members by motivating them to be more active and take more part in our community. I am also excited to continue to work of our previous Webmaster such as member of the month, visual media committee, and creating engaging posters. ASHLEY WONG "This was my first time joining Key Club, but I was able to learn and experience a lot in such a short time. Despite the pandemic, I was able to meet a bunch of new people and community with people from different divisions. Through Key Club, I was able to step out of my comfort zone and attend webinars and other events I have never done before, helping me develop skills of collaboration and motivation to work harder. Key Club is an amazing way to try something new and to learn things about the world you were never aware of. I hope to accomplish a lot more in the future, especially once we get back to school".

Start transcribing or adding a transcription to a document. After you are done, save it for others to review. You can also review other's work!
