100 DAYS OF PHONE-DOGGING JANUARY 1ST - APRIL 15TH

The Biden-Harris administration promised to legislate a way to help obtain citizenship for 11 million undocumented people in the first 100 days of office. Key clubbers can help by phone calling members of Congress and the White House so we can ensure this goal is enacted. There is a lot more time left to help drive calls to Congress (ending at the 15th of April). Don't worry if this is your first time! Training and anything else you need will be in Zoom calls given after you sign up!

HYDRATE FOR 28 CAMPAIGN FEBRUARY 1ST-28TH

Hydrate for 28 was a 28-day wellness challenge for Key Club members to raise awareness of the major water crisis. The Thirst Project emphasized the significance of staying hydrated. Our members had the opportunity to focus on their mental and physical health as well as learning about global causes. Those who participated made us one step closer to ending the water crisis.

NURSE ADVOCACY FEBRUARY 10TH

The Nation Nurses United began their first ever webinar series for their Nurse Advocacy Network! The workshops were filled with amazing research and interactive materials made by the NNU staff. They helped to provide additional tools and information that asserts the significance of what nurses do in our communities.

In webina rs like these, ple ase make sure to ta ke a screensho t during the end o f the meeting t o get credit!

FREERICE ONGOING The United Nations World Food Programme, a humanitarian organization, is saving lives and building a better future for the hungry through an app that helps them afford grains of rice called Freerice.

How does Freerice work? It is a free app to download that allows everyone to donate 10 grains of rice to families in need by answering questions correctly playing a multiple-choice quiz game.

𝐒𝐌𝐈𝐓𝐇𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐈𝐀𝐍 𝐃𝐈𝐆𝐈𝐓𝐀𝐋 𝐕𝐎𝐋𝐔𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐄𝐑𝐒 ONGOING Smithsonian has digital volunteers to help make historical documents and biodiversity data more accessible!

Our members can start transcribing or adding to a transcription of a document. Once you're finished with your work, another volunteer will review it. The transcript is then sent to the Smithsonian to be approved. It can be used immediately or undergo more revisions.

PROJECT GIVINGTHANKS ONGOING RAMIZAH TAYIBA

A group of high schoolers at Arcadia High School in California created Project Giving Thanks. They aim to spread positivity to essential workers during the coronavirus pandemic.

We asked our Key Club members to send post-it messages, artwork, and videos to essential workers, first responders, healthcare workers, and grocery workers. KELLY LIM

QUEENS MEMORY COVID PROJECT ONGOING

We asked our Key Club members to contribute by submitting their testimony, photos, and videos from home.

The Queens College Library and Queens Public Library created the Queens Memory COVID-19 Project, a borough-wide archiving campaign collecting personal stories of people in the middle of the covid-19 pandemic.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT MONTH OF FEBRUARY

HAEIN NOH

THE KEY CLUB TAUGHT ME HOW SMALL ACTS OF INDIVIDUALS CAN COME TOGETHER AND HAVE A BIG IMPACT ON SOCIETY. I COULD GAIN VALUABLE EXPERIENCES AND OPPORTUNITIES AS WELL AS SOME SKILLS OF HELPING OTHERS. THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, I REALIZED THAT I FEEL FULFILLED WHEN I WORK FOR PEOPLE WHO NEED SUPPORT. IT'S AMAZING HOW SERVING THE COMMUNITY AND COLLABORATING WITH OTHERS HAS HAD A GOOD IMPACT NOT ONLY ON OTHERS BUT MYSELF AS WELL. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND STUDENTS TO JOIN THIS CLUB AND HAVE REMARKABLE EXPERIENCES!

Hello, Key clubbers! This is most likely my last personalized Newsletter since the service year is coming to an end. This means you won't see newsletters like this anymore. However, we have an amazing new Editor taking my place very soon. I am going to guide her for the March Newsletter and hopefully you become very fond of her! She will introduce herself and her new board in the upcoming newsletter, so don't miss out!
