UPCOMING EVENTS TO BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR! - Bayside High School x Francis Lewis High School Pen Pal Event in May (Bond with your new PenPal in the span of a month while doing activities that can earn you hours!) - Leadership Training Conference on May 14 and 15 (Participate in workshops, network with other Key Club members, get inspired through keynote sessions, and enjoy a high spirited, fun-filled weekend! - Committee Applications due May 8th!!! (Visual Media Committee, Fundraising Committee, New Events Committee) - Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month Movie Marathon Fundraiser on May 13th!
Sophomore "This year is my first year in key club and it has been a great experience. It has impacted me by helping me to be more open to opportunities. Usually I would deny opportunities for fear that I will fail but I learned that it doesn’t hurt to try. I would recommend others to join key club because not only are you able to make friends but you are also able to help the community. It is also very fun as the events are entertaining and you can work with friends and others."

April 3rd
Kiwanis of jamaica easter egg hunt "During April, I participated in the Jamaica Kiwanis Club Easter Event on April 3rd. I wanted to participate in this event because it was the first in-person event since the pandemic started. Social distancing guidelines were followed throughout the event, along with having hand sanitizer. During this event, we assisted with setting up Easter-related events for children such as egg hunt. The best part of this event was getting the experience of a Key Club event after a year of mostly virtual events. Overall, the Kiwanis Easter Event was a refreshing event during these times and I received 2 total hours!" - Lana Kim (senior)

April 3rd
THHS X QHSS X BHS X FLHS PHONEDOGGING ZOOM EVENT
"Towards the beginning of April, I participated in the first interclub event of the new service term—THHS x QHSS x BHS x FLHS Phonedogging Zoom Event. I participated in this interclub Phonedogging event because it is so important to advocate for the citizenship of the 11 million undocumented immigrants. For me, the best part about this event was that just a few calls can make such a big difference in the lives of so many people living in the United States. Although a few calls doesn’t sound like much, it truly is a lot when other volunteers have the opportunity to participate in this event as well, making our voice louder and stronger. All in all, the interclub Phonedogging event between THHS, QHSS, BHS, and FLHS was a great way to advocate for the citizenship of undocumented immigrants, and I am looking forward to more advocacy events throughout the ‘21-‘22 service year!! CIRCLE K SENIOR EVENT Our members joined other graduating seniors from around the world along with leaders from Key Club, Circle K International and Kiwanis International on Sunday, April 18 at 8:00 pm EST for some fun, games and candid talk about the next steps on our journey.
April 13th 15th
AAPI UPSTANDERS WORKSHOP FQNYPL and NYC Commission on Human Rights partnered up to create an AAPI Upstanders Workshop. This interactive workshop was intended for people of Asian descent and allies to be upstanders. Our members learned strategies and tips to respond to harassment & violence to protect themselves and the community.

"During the month of April, I participated in 100 Days of Phonedogging. I decided to participate in 100 Days of Phonedogging because through this event I am able to make calls to the members of Congress and the White House demanding legislated pathway to citizenship! The best part about this event was I am able to give 10 minutes of my day to help undocumented immigrants! Overall, 100 Days of Phonedogging was amazing and I received 2 hours for this event." - Jocelyn Tung (Junior)

SEXUAL ASSAULT AWARENESS MONTH WEBINARS "During the month of April, I participated in Sexual Assault Awareness Webinars because I wanted to show my support to survivors of sexual assault. The best part about this event was seeing how welcoming the environment was. Everyone’s story was so powerful and it really taught me so much. Overall, the Sexual Assault Awareness Webinars was amazing and I received 1 hour for this event!" - Sharon Lin (junior)
RAINN, THE NATION'S LARGEST ANTI-SEXUAL VIOLENCE ORGANIZATION HOSTED WEBINARS, SO STUDENTS CAN LEARN HOW TO BE AN ALLY IN THE FIGHT AGAINST SEXUAL VIOLENCE.

THE JUSTICE ROADMAP WEBINARS The Justice Roadmap advocates to push interconnected legislative action in New York State to address the criminalization of immigrants and black and brown communities. Our members listened to the panel discussion that aims to reach a more just and equitable future!

PROJECT IMPLICIT "Throughout the month of April, I participated in multiple events, but Project Implicit caught my eye. I decided to participate in Project Implicit because of the survey, its diverse activities within the survey, and its results. The best part of this event was seeing my results and what I prefer over the other while seeing what the majority of others prefer as well. All in all, Project Implicit was exciting to participate in and I received 1.5 hours by partaking in this event!" - Jocelyn Ng (sophomore)

TABS FOR A CAUSE "During the month of April, I participated in Tabs for a Cause! Tabs for a Cause is a great way for members to gain hours just by opening a tab! I loved how it also provided me with a motivation to search up tasks, which helped me do my work! I was able to look up my favorite shows and do work while helping my favorite foundations! I gained 5 hours by opening 450 tabs." - Jena Kim (sophomore)

"During April, I participated
in Bean Bean Bean. I decided to participate in Bean Bean Bean because I love to help our communities who currently need our support. The best part about this event was seeing how answering questions can help stop starvation. To conclude, Bean Bean Bean was an amazing event that allows you to donate beans by answering easy questions and I received 10 hours for this event." - Crystal Yam (freshmen)

ECOSIA "During the month of April, I participated in Ecosia. I decided to participate in this event, Ecosia because planting trees help reduce carbon emission which can prevent global warming. The best part of this event was being able to see how many trees were quickly planted just by doing searches using the search engine! FLHSKC BINGO BOARD "THE FLHSKC BINGO BOARD WAS A UNIQUE EVENT INSPIRED BY STUY KEY CLUB. IT ALLOWED FOR ME AND MEMBERS TO BE ENGAGED IN KEY CLUB. IT PROMOTED THE EVENTS, FUNDRAISERS, AND MEMBER ENGAGEMENT. OVERALL, I ENJOYED THE BINGO BOARD EVENT SINCE IT WAS SOMETHING SUPER FUN AND EASY TO COMPLETE, WITH A CHANCE OF GETTING 6 HOURS!!" - KEN WU (SOPHOMORE)

I decided to participate in Say Thanks! because I saw it was a good way to show appreciation to the frontline and essential health care workers who were working hard especially during this time. SEND A MESSAGE TO ST. JUDES PATIENTS "During the month of April, I participated in the St. Jude card writing event. I decided to participate in the St. Jude event because I wanted to make a child's day. You never know what people go through on a daily basis, and the fact that I could make someone’s day for less than five min, I definitely jumped at the opportunity. I hope that my letter was able to bring joy to a child battling with cancer. Everyone deserves to be happy. Overall the St. Jude event was a very easy and fun event to take part in and I received around two hours for this event." - Fatumata Dia (sophomore)

Queens Memory Covid-19 Project It's a project that collects first person stories from people living in Queens , NY during the Covid-19 pandemic. Write about how you, your loved ones, and your community are impacted by the pandemic and include pictures of your experience during the pandemic!
