The Central Hub
The Central Hub is a dynamic, multi-functional building designed to foster student interaction and collaboration in a welcoming environment at the heart of the University. It seamlessly integrates various pathways, facilitating easy and efficient movement to other areas of campus. The new structure compliments the existing amphitheatre and introduces a view of the newly developed wetlands area. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the wetlands plays a crucial role in rainwater collection, addressing the campus’s persistent flooding issues and supplying the Central Hub with a sustainable water source.

Programmatic

The interior of the Central Hub features a spacious open floor plan, accommodating various programs which are strategically positioned along the building’s outer edges to maximize natural sunlight. These spaces are seamlessly linked by a central hall, which also benefits from abundant natural light. This design not only supports the growth of indoor greenery but also creates a welcoming and comfortable environment for students to interact.

Timber and glazed facades enhance sustainability by combining renewable timber, which stores carbon and reduces processing energy, with glazed surfaces that maximize natural light and passive solar heating. This combination improves energy efficiency, reduces the need for artificial lighting, and lowers the overall carbon footprint, all while creating a healthier and more inviting indoor environment.

Isolation Cabin

The Isolation Cabin is designed to assist monks in their spiritual practices by offering a minimalist space that fosters focus and prayer. The design is inspired by the Japanese game “Cidori,” which features wooden sticks with uniquely shaped joints that don’t require nails or metal fittings. This construction method, also used in Kengo Kuma’s GC Prostho Museum Research Center, was chosen for this project to enable monks to build the cabin themselves. This approach encourages a departure from modern lifestyles and enriches their spiritual journey.

Coffee House
The adaptive reuse project transformed an abandoned oil house into a lively coffee shop, breathing new life into the neglected structure and mining area. This innovative renovation incorporates lush greenery both inside and outside, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that connects patrons with nature. A stunning new glass roof floods the space with natural light, enhancing the inviting ambiance and highlighting the vibrant plants. To ensure the integrity and safety of the building, additional structural support was seamlessly integrated into the design, preserving the charm of the original architecture while accommodating modern needs. The result is a unique and refreshing space that invites the community to gather, relax, and enjoy their favorite brews in a beautifully revitalized setting.
