A major makeover is transforming the open air garden area of the Fig Restaurant & Bar at the historic Waterloo Bay Hotel.

The design has created plenty of seating amidst a large grassed area and tropical landscaping.

It will be a chance for Wynnum locals and visitors to enjoy the perfect Bayside weather with an alfresco meal and refreshments in the new relaxed setting.

A Cantina style bar will add to the relaxed vibe with wood fired pizza oven and Pop-Up Bar available at popular times.

Live music will be complemented with the new stage area, and a special large screen installed for major sporting events.

Foodie News Myf at PERRYS FRUIT MARKET suggests tossing a salsa of tomatoes, which are abundant and such good quality, along with diced avocado for a quick spring salad. The best way to select an avocado is to gently press the top. If it is quite firm, it will be ready in a few days and can be ripened at home at room temperature. Cauliflower and broccoli are at their best following the cold winter going into spring, along with an abundance of herbs post winter. Strawberries are giving great taste and the best value prior to the summer season.

Work and a brainstorming session with other local business owners to resolve a common issue. Head out for lunch, picking up an amazing chicken salad from Kebabzone. Pop into Cultivate Design to buy a last-minute homewares gift for a friend.

Afternoon is work, making sure I don’t get distracted by the views and the networking

opportunities. Then out for school pickups and down to Wynnum waterfront. Kids play in the playground, then pick up some hot chips & calamari at the Pelicans Nest.

Pop in for a glass of wine in Cedar & Pine; have an evening stroll back to the waterfront and pier for sunset, listening to the waves lapping under the warm night sky.

Home time knowing I get do a variation of it all again tomorrow, & every day…

“Ingleston” Boarding House, built in 1915, stood on the site presently being developed as “Enclave”, on the corner of Bay Terrace and Charlotte Street. Fire destroyed the building in 1947. Wynnum Public Library occupied the site from 1977 to 2018.
