Health & Wellbeing by the Bay

Fresh Air: Wynnum Manly Lota area has over 7 km of foreshore, mangrove walks and bike tracks, numerous off leash dog parks, a swimming & wading pool, a tennis wall and basketball hoop, outdoor fitness stations, skate parks and a community garden.

Fresh Food: Jan Power’s Farmers Markets has fresh produce, most of it direct from the growers and producers. The Small Crop has a Wednesday morning farmers market. Taste by TNT deliver hand-picked fresh produce to the area. Spoilt for choice. Wynnum Parkrun The concept of ‘New Year – New Diet’ is so condescending and cliché, as is the notion of ‘getting summer body ready’. Throw away those outdated marketing ploys and do what makes you feel happy, motivated and alive. Fresh Attitude, Fresh Air and Fresh Food, along with a healthy dose of Self Love. Fresh Attitude: Widening your mindset to discover what you enjoy. Start with a visit to your local Manly Village Medical Centre for a check-up. Make a plan, start with comfortable, achievable goals, then build up to what challenges you. Whether it is getting from the couch to 5km or learning a new skill, tap dancing or knitting with new friends – Commit.

10

Self Love: Time for some indulgence therapy. City Cave Wynnum is a float therapy Wellness Centre offering float therapy, infrared sauna and massage. If you have never tried floating it is time to consider the wonderful mental and physical health benefits it advocates; loosened muscles, better sleep, released tension, just to name a few.

Follow up with a pedicure and head home with fresh flowers from Fleur by Ellie or Flowers on Cambridge. Manly Village Pharmacy can help with calming diffusers, oils, salt lamps, vitamins and beauty needs. Lastly – remember to SMILE . Dental on Cambridge can help to get that fabulous smile.

MANLY DINING

Sweet tasting prawns or a wood fired dish, Manly Harbour Village is the ideal setting to enjoy a meal with harbour views. Fine dine on oysters, Moreton Bay bugs and mud crab or tuck into take-away fish ‘n chips along the Manly foreshore. Literally get ‘fired up’ at The Arsonist with its unique wood fired cooking from scallops to beef, all cooked over a custom-made fire pit.

Be spoilt for choice whilst enjoying over water, casual dining at Tide on the Jetty or the fabulous views over Manly Harbour at Sea Vibes or Keith’s on Cambridge. Stunning harbour views can be enjoyed from the deck of the Moreton Bay Trailer Boat Club and Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron Harbour View Restaurant, and be assured, the cuisine matches the view. Try an early sunset drink before dining in sight of the stars, and catch some live music at Bluebottle Bar or the funky, modern & relaxing bar at the Manly Deck, open from Breakfast to Sinner. If early morning is more your style try a Superfood or Acai bowl at Bare Naked Bowls. The Arsonist

The Arsonist is the hottest new luxe dining venue on Manly’s esplanade. It fuels a multi-sensory dining experience where the open woodfire kitchen infuses the venue with the sounds and aromas of cooking with fire.

“Gathering communities around fire goes back to the dawn of time. It’s instinctive,” said Head Chef Kyle Bradley. “We’ve designed an open kitchen so patrons can share the dynamic experience.”

A custom-made fire pit and a flame grill complete with impressive moveable gantry lies at the heart of the kitchen. “Cooking with fire can be the most delicate process of cooking or the most extreme. Fire provides avenues of flavour that you simply can’t get from anything this else,” said Kyle.

The menu sourced from seasonal, local produce is grilled, smoked and slow-cooked using fire to deliver unique flavour profiles. Using Queensland’s best suppliers such as Stockyard Beef and Schultz Family Farm suckling pigs, ensures that guests will have a dining experience like no other. “Our drive is customer satisfaction and humbly helping the quality produce shine through using elements of fire,” said Kyle.

What is Acai?

Known for its delicious tropical and naturally sweet taste, it’s understandable why Acai is one of the most renowned members of the superfood squad. Acaí, (pronounced ah-sigh-EE) is best known for being the hero ingredient in some of the most Instagrammable smoothie bowls. Besides acai’s vibrant colouring and taste, it’s jam-packed with nutrients and superfood qualities that leave you feeling energised, refreshed and ready to take on your day.

There is more to acai berries than just their good looks and taste, and if you have tasted acai, you’ll understand why it has been cultivated throughout Brazilian rainforests for decades. Amazonian tribes discovered acai berries to have extremely high antioxidant properties, often sourcing the berry to build their immune systems and as a valuable source of energy.

It really does become a win-win situation for everyone when you choose your smoothie bowl toppings. What is your superfood go to? Think – goji berries, chia seeds, coconut yogurt, activated buckinis, fresh fruit, hemp seeds or even a peanut butter drizzle. At Bare Naked Bowls, we are all about jam-packing our bowls with as much organic, wholesome, nutrientrich, superfood goodness as possible to boost our health! That is why we get told that our Bare Naked Bowls are the best acai bowls around!

Casual dining restaurant located on the bay of the Manly Harbour. Open for lunch and dinner 7 days a week. Live music from 6pm & tapas from 4-6pm every Friday in our terrace. Breakfast every Saturday and Sunday.

461 Esplanade | 07 38930195 seavibesmanly.co | @seavibesmanly

Since being introduced into the western world, it’s understandable why acai has come with such a buzz – the sweetness of this superfood will have you feeling guilt free about your breakfast choice and totally satisfied all day.

HISTORICAL WYNNUM WADING POOL In the early 1920’s, it was acknowledged that a safe swimming enclosure was needed on the Wynnum foreshore to accommodate the many day trippers from Brisbane. It took another decade to design and build the Wynnum Wading Pool as we know it today. During the Great Depression the Brisbane City

Council established a bureau to fund public works providing unemployment relief. Men were assigned and paid for work based on their family circumstances. Finally, in 1932 the Wynnum Wading Pool was constructed as part of this scheme, along with the Manly Retaining Wall.

Danielle Davis at Sobidah Clothing created the perfect fashion for 2020, as she says:

“When COVID hit our world I put my sewing machines back to work and started making cotton fabric face masks.

I had so much fabric stored away as a sewer does! It went to fabulous use. That soon ran out and I had to start buying more and even used up older styled clothing. The masks have been in hot demand with over 3,000 made. “

Become a Lord, Lady, Prince or Princess in the Republic of Wynnum! The Republic of Wynnum, in what is regarded as a first for a republic, has enacted an honours scheme, whereby citizens may apply for aristocratic titles. In a spirit of transparency, and to help raise funds for the general improvement and betterment of the nation, these titles are only conferred on the payment of a fee (currently charged in Australian Dollars).

28

For title holders, the Republic issues a special aristocratic passport, which is purple in colour specially inscribed with the new title holder’s details and a certificate confirming the title holder’s title is also issued. The passport is sent to you in the mail and your certificate of title is emailed in PDF format. Title holders are also listed on the ‘The Peerage’ page on www.RepublicofWynnum.org
