Kearny Rangers U-16 beat Akadema Prospects, 8-7, to win championship
Despite seeing its 7-run lead whittled down by the end, the Kearny Rangers 16s still held off Akadema Prospects for an 8-7 victory Sunday, Jan. 24. Akadema Prospects scored 7 runs in the failed comeback on a single by Stocker in the sixth, a groundout by Luchinsky in the sixth, an error in the sixth, a single by Bower in the seventh and a single by Luchinsky in the seventh.
Kearny Rangers 16s earned the victory despite allowing the Akadema Prospects to score four runs in the sixth inning. Akadema Prospects batters contributing to the big inning, including Stocker, Luchinsky and Trapasso all knocking in runs in the inning.
Kearny Rangers 16s put up five runs in the fifth inning. Bryan Diaz, Dylan Gnecco, Tim Schwerzler, Jaiden Malave and Joe Rocco each had RBIs in the frame.
Jonathan Hernandez earned the victory on the mound for the Rangers. The righthander surrendered seven runs on five hits over six and two-thirds innings, striking out two. Billy McChesney threw one-third of an inning in relief out of the bullpen, recording the last out to earn the save.
