Over the past 40 years, there have been unsuccessful attempts to lure investors to a swath of Main Street in Belleville, leaving a 24-acre lot at 675 Main St. vacant and yielding bare minimum property taxes and an eyesore for decades.

But, finally, the township says it has secured a strong redevelopment partner, announcing late last week that a developer has broken ground on the site for a 359,000-square-foot space.

DeGise: J&J’s singleshot will allow for major vaccine expansion in Hudson County

Hudson County says its COVID-19 vaccination program will significantly expand its scope in the coming weeks as additional doses are made available from the State of New Jersey, allowing County Executive Thomas A. DeGise’s Vaccine Distribution Task Force to inoculate more residents than ever before.

The new programs will build on the success of the county’s South Kearny center, which has now given out nearly 20,000 doses, as well as municipal sites in Jersey City, North Bergen, Union City, Bayonne and other communities that have collectively administered thousands of additional doses.

“As we have said for weeks, Hudson County has succeeded in building out our vaccine distribution capacity but we need more doses to ramp up our program to the level required to make sure our residents are safe,” DeGise said. “While we still need more vaccine supply, these latest developments will allow our county site and our municipal partners to expand our operations and give more of our residents these critical, life-saving vaccines.”

In partnership with Gov. Philip D. Murphy and Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop, the county is helping to launch a new FEMA-backed community vaccine distribution program in Jersey City this week that will operate out of local churches in the Bergen/ Lafayette and Heights sections of the city. The program began March 8 and will provide 3,000 first and second doses that will be targeted at under-

served communities within Jersey City.

“Jersey City’s vaccination program is expanding week by week with our second distribution site recently opening at Ferris High School, and this new FEMA site will be a great help in scaling our distribution up further,” Fulop said.

“I would like to thank Gov. Murphy and County Executive DeGise for their continuing assistance in protecting Jersey City residents.”

Hudson County has received 1,500 doses of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine to be distributed this week after it was recently granted emergency use authorization by the Food and Drug Administration.

With the opening of the new FEMA site in Jersey City, a majority of those doses will be allocated to North Hudson to continue efforts in vaccinating the hardest to reach communities in Hudson County.

Last week, the county-run vaccination center prioritized residents over the age of 75.

Additionally, Palisades Medical Center received 1,100 doses of the Pfizer vaccine to help vaccinate any Hudson County resident who is 75+.

The county has already notified each town’s health officer of this vaccination opportunity and Palisades Medical Center has already been in contact with North Bergen and West New York. Other towns are currently working to assist senior residents with scheduling an appointment to be vaccinated at the hospital.

Hudson County has also shared a list of 2,600 seniors 75+ with the hospital who have registered online to be vaccinated but have not yet received a vaccine.

KPD: Those ‘Yeezeys’ no ‘Sambas’ for sure

n Feb. 26 at 8:26 p.m., a 35-yearold Kearny man called police to report he had just been robbed at gunpoint near 125 Passaic Ave. Officers Dean Gasser and Kyle Plaugic investigated. They learned the victim met up with a man he had met through Facebook Marketplace intending to sell him four pairs of “Yeezys,” popular Adidas sneakers (Just ask my 12-year-old sons. Like all true Kearny sons of my time, I wore Sambas.). The victim frequently engages in

this type of commerce and had done business with this man on prior occasions.

When his customer arrived -- a man the victim knew only by his street name – the victim got into his red Mercedes to talk over the details of the deal. While closing the sale, two skimasked men jumped into the backseat of the Benz.

One produced a handgun and struck the victim with it causing a laceration to the back of his head. At a robber’s demand, the victim turned over his iPhone. A brief struggle then ensued, which created an opening for the victim to flee the car. The red

With substantial data to go on, Officer Plaugic quickly identified the driver of the red Mercedes as 22-yearold Newark man, Justine X. Gonzalez. Newark police found the Mercedes the next morning at 5:30 a.m., near the owner’s Lincoln Avenue residence, where it was impounded by Kearny officers.

arrested Gonzalez at his Rizzolo Road workplace. He was charged with robbery and conspiracy and remanded to the Hudson County Jail, South Kearny.

After further investigation, detectives also charged Eriel Montesino, 22, of Newark, with robbery, conspiracy, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. Montesino turned himself in at KPD headquarters on March 3 and was likewise remanded to the county jail.

The victim’s injury was minor and required only first aid. The investigation remains active.

••• On March 1 at 7:59 p.m., Officer Anthony Oliveira and several back-up officers were dispatched to Big Nick’s Pizzeria on Davis Avenue where it was reported an assault had occurred and the assailant might be returning for more.

Officers spoke with the pizzaiolo, who pointed out a woman standing outside by her car. He explained the two had had an argument over a delivery the woman had called in. Reportedly, the delivery man was unable to raise the customer to come to the door to accept her food. When he telephoned the customer, her caller ID misidentified the incoming number as a potential scam, so she didn’t answer it. Unable to complete the delivery, the driver returned the food to the pizzeria.

Holt, 23, of Kearny, came into the pizzeria when her food failed to arrive. She and the pizzaiolo reportedly had a loud dispute which ended with Holt allegedly grabbing a pen off the counter and striking the owner with it on the temple of his head. This caused the owner some pain and produced a bump that was visible to responding officers.

Holt was arrested on the charges of aggravated assault (with a pen) and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. She was later released with a summons.

••• On March 2 at 7 p.m., Officers Luis Cazares and Jose Castillo were dispatched to the parking deck at 206 Bergen Ave. on a report of possible burglary to a vehicle.

There, they discovered three people sitting in a 2004 Toyota Corolla without permission of the owner.

The car had been unlocked and the three squatters were purportedly hanging out there to stay warm.

‘Desperation Boulevard’ on Amazon Prime is worth the watch

I

finally had the opportunity to watch the movie “Desperation Boulevard,” circa 1998, with comedian Judy Tenuta.

Tenuta, known for her zany, crazy and satirical comedy, along with her squeezebox/accordion, plays the lead role as former child star Joanie Sweeney. Sweeney plays a little girl who died a young age and comes back as an angel in the sitcom “Daddy’s Little Angel,” a spoof on a 50s-’60s family sitcom, where her tag line is, “My daddy is the best daddy.”

Jump into the 1990’s and little Joanie is now an adult. She finds it’s exceedingly difficult to be taken seriously in the entertainment industry now that the show is something long gone by from yesteryear and she has sadly become typecast. She takes any role that comes her way, but nothing of significance to bring her back to her heyday and unfortunately, she will

forever be known as “Little Joanie Sweeney.”

Or will she?

I’m sure many former child stars can relate to this movie and in this case, Hollywood Boulevard now becomes “Desperation Boulevard.” The desperation comes into play when her hack agent books her for everything and anything under the sun but again, nothing substantial or earth shattering.

The movie also features former child stars, the late Erin Moran from “Happy Days,” Dana Plato from “Diff’rent Strokes,” Burt Ward from “Batman” and Eddie Haskell from “Leave it to Beaver.” There are other cameos from Weird Al, Emo Phillips and her love interest in the film Wil Shriner. After trying to find work, the former child stars who play themselves gather for an evening of cards and all are in the same boat, trying to find work again.

to get little Joanie back on top. Keep in mind this takes place during the days of “The Enquirer” and Star magazine days, when headlines were about stars being abducted by aliens and anything else sensational.

He suggests she do the craziest

things to get the publicity she needs to get back on top. And yes, they are beyond farfetched -- yet she does them and sadly they all go comedically wrong. My heart broke for the character at times and Tenuta’s comedic timing and superb acting did not hurt either.

I was extremely impressed with her acting, I wasn’t expecting her to be playing a serious role and she did a fantastic job at it. Follow the twist and turns and the ending is not what you might expect -- but “Daddy’s Little Angel” surely pays its dues.

If you are tired of Netflix or what’s on cable and regular primetime television, check out the film on Amazon Prime. If you are a fan of old sitcoms we watched growing up, you will really enjoy and appreciate this movie and if you are not, you should enjoy it as well because it is just a cute, original film. I am not sure why it didn’t receive the recognition it deserves.

What a year it’s been for all of us

t’s almost eerie to look back at The Observer of March 11, 2020. It included the very first COVID-19-related story about the early “Dos and Don’ts” of the virus that was slowly making its way from Asia to our shores.

There were warnings about how important it was to wash hands thoroughly. There were tips about travel. The words “social distancing” hadn’t even made their way into the CDC’s lexicon yet, though they did say the virus transmitted most easily from one infected person who was 6-feet or less away from another who was not.

The idea of wearing masks had barely been tossed around at this point.

And yet so much has happened since that rather fateful week. We’ve seen some of the best humanity has to offer. And we’ve seen some of the worst humanity has to offer.

Stunningly, half a million Americans have lost their lives in that time frame. Unfortunately, rare is the person who doesn’t know someone who has died from this hideous virus. Our local communities have been hit as hard as anywhere else in the country.

And yet, little by little, it seems we’re all beginning to put the pieces together, in anticipation of a return to “normalcy,” whatever that means.

Slowly, life is being breathed back into communities that have suffered so much.

Fans are returning to sports venues.

Restaurants are at a better capacity, though nowhere near what they need to be.

Kids are preparing to return to in-person school.

The incomparable loss is something we’ll likely never forget. But the way our communities have banded together is nothing short of extraordinary.

Life as we once knew it might never be fully the same. But it can be close. It will be close. And it is all made possible because so many people have done so much to make this a better world.

As we meet the first anniversary of the change to the world as it was before we knew the word “Coronavirus,” we should all remember those who have died. We should never forget all the loss. And may we never have to experience anything like this — ever again.

Rose: Cancel culture is just too easy To the Editor: In the Feb. 24 edition of The Observer, I was taken to task by two writers for my letter in which I suggested providing an alternate currency in which to honor Harriet Tubman, while leaving President Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill.

My suggestion was made more as a compromise, rather than just as a means to cancel a former president, which could only lead to more division in our country.

Jackson was a victim of the times he lived in. He was born in a world that accepted slavery. The country was in an ever-expansionist mood, and most of its citizens were willing to overlook the abomination of slavery, and the treatment of Native Americans to do so.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR So yes, he was applauded for defeating the Red Stick Creeks who had murdered hundreds of white settlers at the Fort Mims massacre and took lands from them at the direction of president James Madison. Later, he was the hero of the battle of New Orleans.

To list his accomplishment as president would take up too much space, but one that strikes me was that he is the only president who ever paid off the national debt. As president, he was asked to remove Native Americans from Georgia by its governor, unlike President Lincoln who received the same request

from the governor of Minnesota --he did not hang 39 Native Americans to appease the governor.

He prevented secession. If he were to run for president today, his love of the working man, hatred of the rich and attempts to break up big banks would make him Bernie Sanders-like.

Slavery is a stain on the history of this country, and should never be forgotten, but to cancel out those who made our country great, for living in those times, is ridiculous.

A hundred years from now people may want to cancel anyone who backed aborting a million babies a year.

Just as ridiculous.

ARS Continued from Page 5 ••• I sometimes have to pinch myself with the guests who come on ARS. On March 7, I had the honor of speaking to the legendary singer/actress Melba Moore, someone I have always admired and considered an inspiration in the music industry. I had no

idea that she was a transplant Jersey girl, originally from Newark. She still lives in the Garden State.

Moore got her musical talent from her parents.

Her mom a singer and dad a pianist. They instilled music into all their children. She and her brother took it seriously as their father taught them all how to play the piano, but Moore and her brother would take that talent and make it work to their advantage.

Like every other teen, unsure of what to do in life, she attended Montclair State College (now University) and studied music education and became a music teacher.

Although rewarding, she yearned for more. Hit after hit, she then landed a role in the musical “Hair.”

When a friend in the cast wondered why someone of color couldn’t play a particular role in an all-white cast, organizers agreed.

Moore got the part and the rest as they say is history. She won a Tony Award for her role in the musical “Purlie” conquered a role in “Les Miserables” and so many more major productions all the while, still pumping out hit songs.

How she had the time to do all of this and have integral parts in women’s causes and Black History Month is astonishing. Her passion for life, love, others and music has been going on for years and continues to this day.

Kardinals rebound from 0-8 to finish strong

Hometown mourns passing of Frannicola, a.k.a.

‘Mr. Nutley’ It was an unlikely association, a young, aspiring athlete and an aging official and administrator.

Except that they shared a first name and a strong love for Italian food.

However, in the case of the old school referee, he loved all kinds of food.

But they were inseparable, the young kid named Angelo Guglielmello and the referee named Angelo Frannicola.

The relationship began when Guglielmello was just a toddler, but became tighter when Guglielmello was playing in the Nutley Recreation football league.

“I was really young,” Guglielmello said. “His daughter (Antoinette Giglio) was my second grade teacher (at Spring Garden School). From an early age, he pointed me in all the right directions and which roads to take.

I didn’t know anything when I started playing, but he helped me out a lot. We would go out to dinner a lot.”

Frannicola was like Guglielmello’s personal Zagat’s Guide to Fine Dining.

“He loved to eat,” Guglielmello said. “He knew every single restaurant and

knew all the places to go.”

Guglielmello became an extremely proficient placekicker through his days in Nutley Rec football and carried that talent to St. Joseph Regional High School in Montvale and currently with Stony Brook University. Guglielmello holds the New Jersey state record for field goals made (36) and total kicking points (253) in his career.

Frannicola followed Guglielmello every step of the way.

“He would come to my games,” Guglielmello said.

“He would hang out with my father.”

Frannicola would give the young Guglielmello all the advice he needed, especially about getting a good education.

“He was a big academic guy,” Guglielmello said.

“He told me to stay on top of my grades. We talked a lot. He was always around in my life.”

Unfortunately, the loving friends had to bid farewell two weeks ago, when Frannicola passed away in St. Barnabas Hospital in Livingston after a monthlong battle with COVID-19.

By Jim Hague ogsmar@aol.com After the Kearny High School boys’ basketball team suffered a 42-point blowout loss, a 75-33 drubbing at the hands of Hudson Catholic Feb. 15, the Kardinals owned an 0-8 record.

No coach or player wants to lay claim to such a dismal mark.

But to a man, the Kardinals did not feel like they were a doormat.

“Even though we lost that game, we actually played well,” said Kearny veteran head coach Bill Mullins.

Wait a second. You lost by 42 and you think you played well? It might have been time for the famous line from “When Harry Met Sally,” when the woman in the Carnegie Deli (played by director Rob Reiner’s mother Estelle) said, “I’ll have what she’s having,” after Meg Ryan faked an orgasm.

But Mullins was insistent upon the Kards playing well

in a 42-point loss.

“We just weren’t able to put the ball in the basket,” Mullins said. “It’s not always about winning and losing. I liked the way we played. We played the way I wanted us to play.

I think the kids all thought that they had a good team. We practiced like we were 8-0, not 0-8.”

How true was that line?

Well, three Kardinal senior players all said the same thing when interviewed.

“When a team is down, no one likes to stay practicing,” senior guard Kender Santos said. “We were practicing like we were 8-0 and not 0-8.”

“We had to keep fighting,” senior Keuris Matos said. “We just had a bad start to the season. We were practicing like we were undefeated. We just had to stay positive.”

“Coming into the season, I think we were a little selfish,” senior guard Chris Serrano said. “We weren’t as bad as our record.”

A day after the loss to Hudson Catholic, the Kards faced

Ferris. It was a case of feeling sorry for themselves and believing they were indeed a bad team or lace up the sneakers and get after trying to break the losing streak.

“It’s tough, because when you’re 0-8, it starts to get to you,” Mullins said. “But we played Ferris and got a 14-point lead and kept going.”

That’s what happened. The Kards earned a 78-44 victory.

“We took a breath after we got one,” Matos said. “Then we said, ‘Let’s keep it going.’”

“After that game, we were happy to get the first one,” Serrano said. “Once we won, we knew we could keep it going.”

But no one could have ever imagined just how much the Kards could keep it going.

Ayden Lockett became eligible after moving to Kearny from California. Lockett, a junior guard, only played in seven games – all of which were victories. Lockett had 18 in the win over Memorial Friday night and averaged 15 points per game over those seven wins.

“I didn’t even know who he was,” Mullins said of Lockett.

“He came to practice and I knew he could play. He made us so much better because we had three point guards. They were all very good and could hit the outside shot. Ayden really helped us. He’s a solid player.”

“If we would have had Ayden all season long, things would have been different,” Matos said. “He was a big addition to the team.”

But it was the team chemistry that carried them home.

“We wanted to win so badly,” Santos said. “We were all so unselfish.”

“We started to share the ball,” Serrano said. “I think having four guys to share the scoring took some of the weight off my shoulders. I didn’t have to do too much.”

Needless to say, the complete transformation midseason is something the Kardinals will remember for years to come.

“It’s something I’m always going to remember,” Serrano said. “More than any of the other seasons.”

“I’m going to remember this until I can’t remember anymore,” Matos said. “The way we came back is something I’ll never forget.”

“It was a special year, a season to remember,” said Santos, who had 17 in the win over Memorial Friday night.

Mullins has about 35 years of coaching under his belt. No win was bigger than Friday night in West New York.

“I didn’t like the way we practiced Thursday,” Mullins said. “I told them that this was the biggest game of their lives. They had a chance to get some recognition for Kearny, a chance to make their mark.

We treated it like it was our tournament game. For me, that one victory was one of the best ones ever. It was really rewarding to be with these kids and watching them develop. It was really rewarding for me.”

Frannicola was a man who gave his entire life to others, most of whom resided in his beloved home of Nutley, where he spent the final four decades of his life.

To many, Frannicola was known as “Mr. Nutley,” because he really was omnipresent. Although most of his professional career as a teacher and administrator was in his native Newark, once Frannicola moved to Nutley, he plunged head first into becoming a fixture in his new hometown.

But before Angelo became Mr. Nutley, he was a graduate of St. Benedict’s Prep before he went to serve his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Angelo went to Montclair State and received his Master’s in education and administration from Seton Hall University.

Angelo’s educational career began in the Newark Public School system. He was a teacher and administrator at Weequahic High School before getting the opportunity to become the athletic director at Nutley High School, where he remained for six years (2001 through 2006).

Joe Piro replaced Frannicola as the Nutley AD in 2006.

“He was one of the people who got me through things,” Piro said. “He was always mentoring me. Angelo introduced me to a lot of the coaches and ADs, the key people. I owe some of my success to Angelo.”

Piro was particularly saddened by Frannicola’s passing.

“He was really enjoying his life,” Piro said. “He really loved Essex County sports.

He supported all the coaches.

I enjoyed having him around.

He was my good friend for a very long time. Even though he taught in Newark, he was a Nutley guy. When he took over as AD, it was a natural fit, a good fit. Raider Nation lost one its favorite sons.”

Throughout his life, Frannicola was a respected football and basketball official and baseball and softball umpire.

Fellow Nutley resident Jim Stoeckel, Sr. was one of Frannicola’s best friends.

“We would go all over the place together,” said Stoeckel, Sr., a fellow umpire and official assignor. “He used to call me every morning. He’d say, ‘Listen, I have a few things to go over.’ We would umpire together and referee together.

This loss is very tough for me. I got used to doing things together.”

Stoeckel said that he and Frannicola were part of a coffee klatch group that met every Friday prior to the pandemic.

“Angelo helped so many people,” Stoeckel said. “Someone would call him and say, ‘Ang, I need a favor.’ That was it. He helped them. He had a heart of gold. He was everything to me. I’m going to miss him so much. He was just a genuine person and a lot of fun.”

Bloomfield resident Rob Stern, an assistant football coach at St. Joseph Regional and the head softball coach at Mt. St. Domnic, as well as the general manager and head coach of the New Jersey Pride summer program, was part of that Friday breakfast club.

“Angelo was always the voice of reason,” Stern said.

“He told me what to fight fore and told me when to back down. He oozed Essex County and New Jersey sports with pride. It was like he was going to a tournament and he was playing. It’s so sad. He was a special guy in this area. They don’t make them like Angelo anymore. I can’t believe he’s gone.”

Stoeckel was part of an e-mail chain where countless athletic directors, officials and friends offered their condolences and memories. More than 40 administrators from all over the state wrote messages about Frannicola.

“It’s beautiful,” Stoeckel said.

Retired Caldwell athletic director Ron San Fillippo, whose brother Rich was the long-time head football coach at Nutley, offered his condolences.

“Angelo Frannicola opened the pathways of light for so many people both young and

also his contemporaries,” San Fillippo wrote. “He was truly a ROLE MODEL for many. He had life gifts that should be shared with others. No one will ever be able to take from you what he has so lovingly given you with open arms and an open caring heart. The Kardinals maintained their stranglehold on the county tournament, steamrolling to another undefeated season. The streak now stands at 371 in a row and five straight team titles.

It is one of the most impressive marks in all New Jersey competitive sports.

Although sweating is usually viewed as one of those unpleasant human things we try our best to avoid, it does serve an essential function. Since there is no cure, people with anhidrosis need to avoid situations that could cause heat-related illnesses.

Heat-related illnesses are the most serious complications of anhidrosis. Children are especially vulnerable because their core temperatures rise faster and their bodies release heat less efficiently. Anhidrosis often can’t be prevented, but serious heat-related illnesses can. To stay safe, wear loose clothing when it’s warm, stay indoors on hot days, and use a spray bottle to cool yourself.

Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.

Anna was a very active participant in community affairs.

She enjoyed politics and was active with Our Lady of Sorrows Church. She was a CCD teacher and a member of the Rosary Society.

Wife of the late John Ferris Jr., she was the mother of John (Annabelle) Ferris, Kenneth (Karolyn) Ferris and the late Deborah Ferriero and Kathleen Ferris. Sister of Mildred Pristupa and the late Mary Carpenter, Tony, John and Joe Sabestinas, also surviving are her grandchildren Timothy, Sean, Michael, Lisa, Kenny, Kaitlyn and Ozzie along with six great-grandchildren.

KPD Continued from Page 4 Harrison resident Alexander F. Pinto, 20, a 17-year-old Harrison girl and a 17-year-old Kearny boy were taken in for trespassing. Pinto was later released with a summons, charging him with unlicensed entry of a structure (trespass). The two teens were released into the custody of guardians.

••• On March 4 at 10:04 a.m., Officer Sean Podolski responded to Beech Street off of Oakwood Avenue to investigate a citizen’s report of an erratic driver. Officer Podolski found a white Honda Civic facing the wrong way on the one-way street.

The complainant told the officer the vehicle had been driven the wrong way down Beech Street and was concerned it might cause a crash.

Officer Podolski approached the driver of the Honda, Stefan R. Florea, 30, of Kearny, who did not have a driver’s license. The officer found Florea’s driving privileges are suspended in New Jersey.

Florea was arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license, being an unlicensed driver and driving the wrong way on a one-way street. He was later released with summonses.

••• On March 4 at 8:08 p.m., Officers Nicole Williams and Michael Ore were summoned to the Wittpenn Bridge for a three-car crash. While investigating, they learned Vanessa Capellan-Hernandez, 37, of Belleville, was driving an unregistered Toyota RAV 4. She was summonsed for the infraction.

Next, the officers learned Shakiyla F. Reid, 29, of New Brunswick, another driver in the crash, was operating with a suspended license. She also had two warrants out for her arrest, both for driving with a suspended license (Orange, $500 bail; Newark, $2,000/10% bail).

Reid was arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license, failure to surrender a suspended license and failure to possess proof of insurance. She posted bail on her warrants and was later released.

Bridge Development Partners is converting the once-blighted property, with plans to open the new facility sometime next year.

The township’s Development Committee consisting of Mayor Michael Melham, Deputy Mayor Thomas Graziano and Councilman Vincent Cozzarelli, say they are pleased with the many ways the project will benefit the town.

Cozzarelli said the developer will foot the bill to remediate onsite contamination. At full buildout, the hub will be a source of permanent jobs for Belleville residents, while serving as a steady stream of tax revenue to the town and the public schools.

Plus, the developer agreement calls for a $1.5 million community contribution, which officials have committed toward a future indoor turf facility.

“This is a win-win-win situation all the way around,” Cozzarelli said. “This project will have

Because of the PILOT, we have a developer paying to finally remediate contaminated land, rather than cap it, and we received a community contribution to create yet another sports and recreation facility.”

A spokesperson for Bridge Development Partners says the company was eager to lay roots in Belleville because of its geographic proximity to Newark and New York City -- and the NJ Turnpike and major arteries to Manhattan.

“We’re excited to transform this once-dilapidated site into a state-of-the-art industrial facility situated strategically to serve millions of residents in both New Jersey and New York,” said Jeff Milanaik, Bridge’s Northeast region partner. “This project would not have been possible without the support of the Township of Belleville, and we’re very thankful for the cooperative and successful relationship we have been able to establish with the many municipal offices involved.

“We look forward to bringing a new, modern Class A facility in this prime infill location to users looking for a place in the thriving Meadowlands market.”

It’s not yet known what tenants will occupy the space. But based on the facility’s close proximity to major highways and thoroughfares, it could position itself as a last-mile warehouse that works to distribute packages from fulfillment centers to front doors, according to Melham.

“We look forward to maximizing all possibilities,” the mayor said.
