And with programs like Kentucky Edition and Kentucky Tonight, Hancock appreciates the quality of information that the KET Public Affairs team delivers.

“The current affairs content is fair and balanced and on time. It is easily consumable to lots of different people, which I love.”

Formerly a social worker, Hancock now puts her energy into her work at VOA, where she has worked for 18 years.

Noting similarities in the missions of VOA and KET, Hancock sees the two organizations as natural collaborators. “Volunteers of America wants to be a provider that serves

anyone in need, regardless of where they live or what their challenges are. I see KET in much the same way. KET wishes to be accessible to people throughout the Commonwealth, every age level, every developmental stage to create content that is consumable and friendly and welcoming.”

And that’s especially the case when that content must tackle important, yet challenging topics. For example, Hancock has participated in KET forums focused on ending the widespread opioid crisis.

“One of the things that I've loved about my experience with KET directly is the profiling of the opioid crisis throughout the Commonwealth and bringing a diverse group of stakeholders and experts together to talk about the different ways in which we can be addressing this issue together. The opioid crisis has really impacted every facet of our lives, every corner of the Commonwealth, both urban and rural, every economic status. I love that KET has really raised a spotlight and given voice to this.”

TODAY’S KET KET was founded more than 60 years ago with the vision that every Kentuckian, no matter their circumstance, would have access to educational programs and services. Through the years, the combined investment of federal, state and private funding has built KET into one of the most respected public broadcasting networks in the nation.

State funding provides the crucial operational foundation for the statewide network, and grants from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting make KET’s unique local productions possible, such as Kentucky Life and Kentucky Tonight with Renee Shaw.

Horatio’s Drive: America’s First Road Trip

Discovering Maggie Smith looks at the remarkable on-screen career of one of Britain’s most prolific actresses. Her film career took off with her role in Nowhere to Go (1958), for which she received her first BAFTA nomination. Two Academy Awards later, Smith had reached the pinnacle of success. Her later hit roles included Dowager Countess of Grantham in Downton Abbey and Professor Minerva McGonagall in the Harry Potter films.

In season two, bigger and stronger enemies are waiting in the wings to destroy Marie Antionette. The higher she climbs in the estimation of the French people, the greater the threats are against her. At the height of their power, Marie Antoinette and Louis face an unprecedented financial crisis.

The incessant attacks of Provence and Chartres against the royal couple stir up the hatred of the nobles while disastrous consequences loom with the Diamond Necklace Affair.

Jackson and a 22-year-old bicycle repairman, Sewall K. Crocker, set off in a 1903 Winton Touring Car in an era when both cars and paved roads were rarities. Along the way, they picked up a third member of the expedition-a bulldog named Bud. Tom Hanks provides the voice of Jackson.
