KCMA is a fully- accredited two-year college offering associate degrees in nursing and several allied health professions, including a pre足 professional curriculum.

The college is the educational division of Kettering Medical Center and has an annual enrollment of more than 600 students. With a student to faculty ratio of 10:1, students receive more personalized instruction at KCMA than at most larger institutions.

Kettering College, which is affiliated with the Seventh-day Adventist Church, has a commitment to high academic standards which are welded to a Christian tradition of caring.

ACADEMICS Academics

N ursing The KCMA nursing curriculum, de­ veloped from a Christian philosophy, pre­ pares its graduates to provide nursing care to individuals with common health needs.

It emphasizes physical, psychosocial and spiritual aspects of care to develop an edu­ cated and compassionate nurse. Nursing students are educated to think critically, communicate effectively, and reflect car­ ing behaviors that arise from an understand­ ing of Gods’s love for us. The program also provides a strong foundation for gradu­ ates who wish to pursue baccalaureate nurs­ ing education following the completion of the associate in science degree.

Physician Assistant A Physician Assistant provides a broad spectrum of health care services to patients and fulfills many health care needs that used to be performed only by a physi­ cian. These responsibilities include taking medical histories, performing physical exams, ordering lab tests, assisting in sur­ gery, determining treatment plans, and pro­ viding patient education. Physician Assistant’s practice under the supervision of a Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy and can provide services in any setting which the physician provides. During the two year program the student completes a se­ ries of rotations in a variety of clinical set­ tings.

Radiologic Technology Radiologic Technologists are dedicated health care professions who aid the physicians and other medical practitioners engaged in the diagnosis and treatment of the patient. They are involved in routine and special imaging techniques, using ionizing radiation, that display various regions and organs of the body. They are dedicated to quality patient care, committed to reducing patient exposure to radiation and professional service to mankind.

The Radiologic Technology Program at Kettering College of Medical arts is a comprehensive course of studies that lasts approximately five contiguous semesters and is competency based in its approach to learning outcomes. After successful completion of this program the student is awarded an Associate in Science degree from Kettering College, is eligible to sit for the national Registry examination and apply for licensure by the State of Ohio.

Special Procedures Special Procedures Technologists are dedi­ cated health care professionals who aid the phy­ sicians and other medical practitioners engaged in the diagnosis the treatment of the patient.

These advanced level skills involve the use of highly specialized imaging equipment and tech­ niques including: Computerized Tomography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Angiographic and Interventional technologies.

The Special Procedures Program at KCMA is a one year comprehensive course of study that allows the student to advance their basic imag­ ining skills. The graduate of this program is awarded an Associate in Science degree in Spe­ cial Procedures. A second approach to special procedures involves a one semester focus on CT and MRI technologies for those who are inter­ ested in a limited scope of advanced training. A certificate of completion is issued at the end of this course of study.

T he clinical portion o f the p rogram includes o rie n ta­ tion to the clinical aspects o f m edical sonography, d em o n ­ s tr a t i o n s in th e u s e o f sonog rap h ic eq u ip m en t, and opportunity to participate, u n ­ der close supervision, in a c­ tual so n o g rap h ic p ro ced u res w ithin clinical education cen ­ te rs. D id a c tic a n d c lin ic a l studies include in struction in fo u r m ajo r sonography sp eci­ alities: ab d o m in al, v ascular, g y n e c o lo g y /o b s te tric s , an d echocardiography.

Respiratory Therapy Respiratory care is a rapidly growing allied health profession for diagnosis, treatment, and preventative care of patients with cardiopulmonary disorders.

In the hospital, these patients may be found in newborn nurseries, medical and surgical wards, intensive care units, emergency rooms, and outpatient departments. Outside of the hospital, respiratory therapists may provide care in the patients’ homes or possibly in extended care facilities.

The two year programs at KCMA include classes and clinicals training in all aspects of RC. The program provides students with a well-rounded education with an experience critical to the challenging career of RC. In the critical care setting, the respiratory therapist is responsible for the manage­ ment, mechanical ventilation, cardiopulmo­ nary resuscitation (CPR), and patient monitoring. Respiratory therapists are routinely involved in air and land transport of the critically ill patient.
