HYSICIAN ASSISTANT Over 400 applications are received

by KCMA yearly for the Physician Assistant (PA) program. Of these applicants, only 25 will be admitted, making this program extremely com­ petitive.

KCMA is one of the few schools in the United States to offer a two-year PA program. During the first-year, students do medical histories, physi­ cal exams, implement treatments and correlate their findings with diseases,

and begin hospital clinicals with pa­ tient contact. Second-year PA stu­ dents are on clinical rotations four days a week with one day on campus for classes and labs.

Physician Assistants are quickly be­ coming popular throughout the United States.

URSING Nursing is derived from the Latin word noutrix which means "to nourish." AT KCMA the Nursing curriculum is designed to not only teach the student how to meet their patient’s physical needs, but also how to nourish patient’s em o­ tional and spiritual needs.

The Nursing program is designed to enable a student to receive an Associate of Science degree in Nursing, taking two years of full time study to complete. The stu­ dent is then eligible to take the

National Council Licensure Examina­ tion to receive the RN license.

There are several career opportuni­ ties as graduate nurses, but students may also choose to continue toward higher education. Nursing graduates are guaranteed to benefit from a solid education built on excellence - giv­ ing them endless options and job opportunities from which to choose.

ADIOLOQIC SCIENCES The job of a radiologic technician is to provide physicians and other medical professionals a means with which to look into the human body without ever making an incision.

The use of rapid imaging saves the patient from exhausting and expen­ sive exploratory surgery. It also allows physicians to make more rapid and precise diagnoses of ill­ ness and injury.

The Radiologic program is compe­ tency based and allows students to advance at their own pace. Radiol­ ogy students receive plenty of class­ room instruction andhands-on (clini­ cal) experience, both of which pre­ pare them for the challenges of ad­ vancing technology and methods.

PECIAL PROCEDURES The Special Procedures program can be taken in either 4 or 12 months after the completion of a 2 or 4 year radiologic technology program or x-ray program taken at an accredited college.

The fastest growing area of Spe­ cial Procedures is CT/MRI, which specializes in radiologic technol­ ogy. The field consists of com­ puter tomography (CT), magnetic

resonance imaging (MRI), cardiac j catheterization, angiography, digi­ tal subtraction angiography, and interventional procedures.

Special Procedures prepares the stu­ dent to meet the challenges of ad­ vancing technology and methods for today's needs.

EDICAL SONOG Medical Sonography is an imaging specialty that utilizes high frequency sound waves to create diagnostic images and detection of vascular blood flow. Applications include abdominal, cardiovascular and fe­ male reproduction.

As a medical sonograp nologist is the primary care the patient during the procedurerrne technologist is responsible for se­ lecting the appropriate sonographic equipment used during the exam and performing the scan itself.

KCMA students are given the op­ portunity to train within the por­ tion of the field which holds their interest. Clinical training at local hospitals are often the students' favorite part of the program. It ncludes two day rotations in the y'ear of the program and three day rotations in the second year.

ESPIRATORY Many patients stricken with respi­ ratory com plications such as chronic bronchitis and emphysema, can breathe much easier due to the supervision of a respiratory care practitioner. These practitioners aid in the treatment and manage­ ment of patients with lung prob­ lems ranging in age from new­ borns to the elderly.

The two-year programs at KCMA include classes and clinical train­

ing in all aspects of respiratory care, supported by course work in math, science and other general education areas. A person considering a ca­ reer in respiratory care should have a background that includes high school algebra and science.

The program provides students with a well-rounded education with an experience critical to the challeng­ ing career of Respiratory Care.

IOMEDICAL ELECTRONICS In today’s rapidly developing, hightech medical environment, there is a strong demand for well-trained, highly skilled Biomedical Electronic Tech­ nicians (BMETs).

As experts in the understanding of physiological principles and the safe, practical, clinical application of bio­ medical equipment, BMETs are in demand in numerous areas of the medical field. Bioequipment indus­ tries, research laboratories, hospitals, and other health care facilities employ

BMETs for their specialized skills.

BMETs' daily duties include inspec­ tion, safety testing, calibrating, in­ stallation, preventive maintenance, modification, and repair of valuable precision medical equipment. The BMET graduate will receive the op­ portunity to gain insight into many of the different areas of the medical field.

VENING Have you ever wonder ;d who those people were who arrived on campus when everyone else was finishing their day? When offices wele closing and day students were hitting the gym or Library, these students were just head足 ing to class. j They were a different breed. They were mommies and daddies, secretar足 ies and bus drivers, waitresses and factory workers all with a new goal, folks whose lives were full of jobs, kids, laundry and overtime. And yet i they still wanted more. They wanted | to make a difference in the lives of others but they didn't have time to halt

their daily routines and drop their fam足 ily duties to become a full-time student.

So they tackle it ALL!. And when it was all finished, these students were proud.

They had climbed another mountain, added a new title to their name, and entwined a new gold thread in the lives they were weaving. On behalf of the evening students, we would like to thank KCMA for offering us the op足 portunity to achieve a dream and keep our lives relatively intact.

Student Association Student A ssociation is a part o f Students Life, w hich is"...dedicated to enhancing the college student's experience through fellow ship in Spiritual, C ultural, and So­ cial activities." A ctivities sponsored by S.A. were intended to fulfill the social needs o f the student body. Sim ply put, Student A ssociation's prim ary objective was to provide social activities and to be the college studentâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s friend.

A t the beginning o f the new school year, activities were held to w elcom e new and returning students. A ctivities such as picinics at the beach, provided an opportu­ nity for students to get acquainted while enjoying the w ater-sking, volleyball, and som e great food.

It is an issue o f im ­ portance to every current and future health care provider, and B ryan B ucklew and D avid W estbrock p ro v id ed liv ely and interestin g perspectives on a crucial topic.

r. Richard Duerksen visited the campus as the Week of Spiritual Emphasis speaker from September 19-24. The effectiveness of his personal and highly relational presentations led some longtime faculty members to say that this was the best speaker they had heard during spiritual emphasis weeks at KCMA. Formerly on the faculty of Pacific Union college, Duerksen seemed to be in touch with the needs and feelings of the college cam足 pus.

Duerksen's presentations originated from the early chapters of John's gospel. In his opening presenta足 tion he emphasized the blessing of being part of God's family, even though problems and trying situations may challenge us at every turn. Later in the week, he developed the stories of Nicodemus, and the women at the well, and their implications for con足 temporary Christian commitment. At the conclu足 sion of the week, he spoke for the weekly Sabbath service at the campus church.
