More than likely you have run into many people at KCMA that you feel m eet all o f the qualifications listed above. As students here we are very fortunate to have ex足 cellent and caring instructors.

Dee Johnson is one o f them, and we would like to dedicate this yearbook to her.

Dee, an instructor for the Respiratory program and its Clinical Director, has met and shown excellence in

all of the qualifications that define a teacher. But not only does she show high profi足 ciency in those requirements, she does it with a charming m ixture of caring and humor.

Dee is known by many outside of the program for her wit and friendliness.

She is known by her students to have a caring and con足 c e rn e d a ttitu d e , re a d ily avaliable for any questions or problems that arise.

R e g is tra tio n c o n 足 sisted of long lines, people, and paper work. The students and faculty of KCMA, both new and returning, m illed around the gym, making it a place o f mass confusion. To the optimist, there was an ad足 vantage to the long lines: get足 ting to meet many new people.

S.A. provided an ice cream feed and pizza for all to enjoy.

A deep sigh o f relief was heard from everyone once registra足 tion was over, at least for that semester!

Giants and Reds battle it out

S.A. Baseball Trip One o f the first activities of the school year, planned by the Student Association, was a trip to Riverfront Stadium to see the Cincinnati Reds play the San Francisco Giants.

Two vans took the students to the stadium in the late afternoon.

During the game, KCM A students ate their share o f nacho's, peanuts, and hotdogs, and the students and faculty didn't fail to put in their two-cents worth when the umpire made a bad call.

The game was close to the end, until the Giants pulled it out with a 4-2 lead. The group then fought the crowds back to the vans. In the end it was a fun time for all: Reds fans and especially Giants fans!

O ver the hills and through the woods, off in the van we go; the girls are screaming, my ears are ringing, and we still have an hour to go!!!

The cam ping trip? W hat can be said? D espite a few initial snags, it ended up being a great time. In addition to the obvious fact that this was a well needed break, there was also the oppor足 tunity to m eet new people, make new friends, and take peaceful walks through the woods. The students had a cheerful attitude about kitchen duty and cleaning up the chuck wagon, therefore even such m undane jobs were fun.

This trip is guaranteed to pro足 vide fun for a future weekend. For those who are thinking about going sometime soon, the camping trip is defi足 nitely recommended.

Masquerade Cruise S.A. sponsored Halloween cruise in Cincinnati There was an eerie feeling on that night of mys­ tery. Faces of the known were now unknown. AH aboard! Let the masquerade party begin.

A bazaar of color­ fully decorated people filled the atmosphere of the cruise with laughter and cheer. The buffet was served while Gary "the clown" Blabey passed out sugary sweets to each table. Looking an were the "Witches ofKCMA" who were partly responsible for the judging.

mingled as the Cincinnati sky line passed by. On the upper deck, people posed in ridiculous fashions for snap­ shot after snapshot, white down below hysterical and exagerated caricatures were made of our fellow friends.

I’m sure some of us will never forget the strange looks we got returning from the cruise. Would you ever forget the students climbing in the vans with costumes ranging from cave men to Punky Brewster? I THINK NOT!*!

T'was a few weeks till Christmas when all through the dorm came the sound of great music, a party was born!

The Student A sso­ ciation and dorm leadership threw a festive holiday bash for students and their families a few weeks before C hrist­ mas. The floors were deco­ rated and the open house be­ gan with judging o f decorated rooms and visits from fam i­ lies.

After a while, the program began, hosted by one o f K C M A 's n e w e st couples. The audience was entertained by Jill and Dave Evans' utilization o f their "wedded bliss."

The show was filled with vocal and instrumental pieces by talented students.

Jerry Shoemaker's rendition o f "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" was the highlight and em barrassed quite a few o f our beloved faculty members.

O f course, the guest of honor was Santa and his charming wife, Mrs. Claus.

All were given a chance to sit on Santa's lap and whisper a Christmas wish in his ear.

A fter the program , prizes were awarded for the decorated room s and tables filled with holiday goodies were descended upon while Santa left in his sleigh shout­ ing, "Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!"

1992 Gapping Ceremony The 1992 C apping Ceremony for the first year nursing students took place in the beginning of the winter semester. The first semester is a trial and error period where the students find out if they can handle the heavy load that the nursing program requires.

Ninety-six first year nursing students waited in an­ ticipation as they watched each other being capped by the second year students. Through much practice, time, and ef­ fort on the part of the nursing students and faculty, the cer­ emony was a beautiful suc­ cess.

Mayble Craig gave the address for the ceremony.

In it, she advised the students that they can make it through till the end. Once all is said and done, all the work they put into the pro­ gram will be worth it.

The second year stu­ dents each capped a first year student. For many in the audi­ ence, the cerem ony w ent suprisinglyfast. The prayer o f dedication, the lamp lighting, and the pledge of service or the N ightingale Pledge all played significant roles in the solemn cerem ony.

A fter­ wards, there was a small re­ ception for the newly capped students, their friends, and their families.

The 1991-92

Florida Snorkeling Trip W hen the weather is cold in Ohio, it is nice to spend some tim e in Florida getting sun, having fun, and also getting P.E. credits for all the effort made. That is ju st what six KCMA students, Mr. Rule, and his wife did for their Spring Break.

After leaving on a Saturday night, they drove straight to Florida and arrived there on Sunday after­ noon. Once they arrived, the rest o f the agenda for the day was canoeing, tan­ ning, sleeping, and some snorkeling.

The next day was also spent snorkeling in four different springs.

Tuesday morning the group left for Key Largo where they m et their boat. The boat took them out to three

different coral reefs. A t these reefs, the students encountered m any colorful and unusual fish, including the B arra­ cuda. The rest of the day was spent at sea.

The last day out at sea was considerably more stormy. The waters were about five feet tall, but despite this, they still had a fun time. Their snorkeling skills were challenged more.

By Friday the group was back at KCM A after having spent the past two days on the road.

It was the unanimous decision of the students that this was the best was to earn P.E. credit and a wonderful way to spend Spring Break.

The 1991-92 Ski Trip to Utah On the first day of March, a knock on the door of Barbara Bussey and Nancy Ludwig jolted them from sleep. Joomi Park calmly told them that it was 6:10 and the vans were leaving at 6:15. Thus began the ski trip for those two. It started almost suddenly and ended just as fast.

Beginners and experts alike enjoyed the beautiful Salt Lake W eather and the incredible Wasatch Mountain scenery. Last, but not least, the slopes were where everyone could ski till they were too tired to move. The skiing was great and the exercise exhilerating whether Brighton, Snowbird, Alta or Solitude were chosen. Unfortunately, as all good things do, these few days came to an end much too quickly.

Yearbook Staff To put together a yearbook is always a challenge. This year has been no exception. Somehow, in spite of barely meeting the deadlines and all the other hassles that come with the territory, we have created a collection of times and mem ories of this school year.

A brand new and much appreciated addition to the workings of the KCM A yearbook is the IBM Pagemaker. This com puter program has cut down on much of the work.

I would like to thank my staff, sponsors, and everyone who has helped make the 1992 yearbook a reality. Your time and input have been valuable and again, greatly appreci足 ated. I hope everyone enjoys looking back at the school year that just took place!

Student Association Creating a needed diversion for students W ho was responsible for the activities that gave students a break from their crazy schedules? W hether it was A&P I or a math class, the Student Association had one or two types o f "Get Away" activities each month for the college students.

The S.A. welcomed students with an ice cream social and a volleyball game the first night. Some o th e r ev en ts w ere sw im m ing and waterskiing, with a picnic at Caesar's Creek. There were m ovies with pizza in L-20, a boat cruise, a Christmas party with the help of Ms. Nelson, ice

skating, rollerskating, A Valentine's Sweetheart Night Out, and much more.

Campus Ministries Campus M inistries is an organization designed to bring Christian fellowship to our campus. There are many activities planned for people to be able to com e together and enjoy a fun-loving atm o­ sphere. Some special times are Friday evenings and Sab­ bath mornings when there is always something good hap­ pening. Dave Evans and selected student leaders work hard to bring you warm memories and a good Chris­ tian experience throughout the year.

Academics

General Education Many o f KCM A's students enroll at the college in the division o f General Education and take the re­ quired courses that enable them to apply for admission to many technical programs. This allows the students additional time to decide which disci­ pline they wish to follow as a career choice.

The division o f General E du­ cation is an integral part o f KCMA. The departm ent of Science and the departm ent of H um anities are the m ajor com ponents within the division.

Both departm ents are com m itted to offering quality programs as a basis for advanced education.

The adm inistration and fac­ ulty design courses to provide a broad liberal arts background and a founda­ tion from which students can build either technical or academ ic programs leading to a baccalaureate degree.

Registered Nursing Kettering College o f Medical Arts offers a two-year Associate D e足 gree in Nursing with the option of returning to acquire a Bachelor's and even a M aster's degree. W ith oncampus labs and clinicals at Kettering Medical Center and many hospitals and convalescent hom es in the area, the Nursing students are offered a chance to experience the total field o f nursing on a hands-on basis.

Although the proper instilla足 tion o f a barium enem a, the color of feces, and the correct procedure to

administer a shot are not things the layperson would care to learn, these tasks and many more are stressed in the Nursing program at K ettering College.

The proficient staff o f 19 in the department work with the 92 first year students and the 96 second year students daily to instruct them in the skills they will need to be the com pe足 tent, caring nurses that are in such great need today.

Imaging Sciences: Radiology Radiology is the most com 足 mon o f the imaging sciences. In it, students learn the art o f x-rays. Also included in their line o f study are filing, transportation, patient positioning, technique setting, and the protection of the patient against radiation.

Radiology students perform and assist the Radiologists in exams such as U pper G I's, barium enemas, and chest x-rays, to name a few. The Radiology Technician is also very useful in the em ergency room.

Ultrasound & Nuclear Medicine Ultrasound is an imaging modality that uses sound waves to produce a real足 time image o f an organ or tissue. It is used for diagnosis of different pa足 thologies in many systems. Ultrasound uses no ionizing radiation and there足 fore is safe for the patient.

But who? Biom edical Electronics Technician. W ell, what do they do?

A BM ET is an individual who has know ledge of the theory of opera足 tion, the underlying physiological principles, and the safe, practical, clinical application of biom edical equipment. Daily activities o f BMET life deal with an extensive variety o f biom edical equipm ent systems that typically include: inspection, safety testing, calibration, installation, pre足 ventive maintenance, modification, and repair.

The Pre-Professional program involves much more than that. W hat w ill be remembered m ost about the P.P. program is not how difficult or dem anding the courses are (although that memory may rem ain fresh for quite some time), but the professors who helped lighten the load.

Dr. Rodenburg, with Chemistry books in one arm, coffee cup in the other hand, and always a bright smile and cheery "hello" as she

came into class. Mr. Rule and Mr. Pecce with their humor and funny ways. Those ohso-funky ties, Mr. Rule; and yes, Mr. Pecce, a book over your head and chalk between your teeth suits you fine, real fine! These are ju st a few o f the people who took time to care for the P.P. students.

Since the group is small in number, they have sought each other out and have form ed lasting friend­ ships. The time spent here in this program will not be rem em bered as a bunch of courses on Tracks I ,I I , or III, but as a combined effort between student and teacher, and between student and student. By giving their best, they will not fail but can only be victorious.
