Time, the theme o f our yearbook, is best symbolized by clocks. When you think o f clocks at KCMA, you invariably think o f Dean Pratt, whose avocation is clocks. He collects them. He repairs them. He refinishes them. He loves them, almost as much as he loves the students who look to him fo r counsel.

Therefore, we think it especially fitting this year to dedicate our time-oriented yearbook to Dean Pratt.

Each new class that time has brought to KCMA has found him to be empathetic and sensitive to every problem , especially those caused by time itself. He is patient, kind, w itty, and a true friend to all, both student and fac足 ulty.

Time is a tangible part o f a person’s life —

it’s w hat we use to meas­

ure the beginning o f an event, its duration and its end. Basically time is the tangible representation o f a person’s life. It’s the beginning o f a goal —

admission to a college, moving into a dorm and meeting people. Then

the "h a p p e n in g ” period o f time occurs —

lots o f study, going to classes,

planning, and fun. But the end eventually comes —

graduation —

ple finish w hat they began in a specified period o f time.

W e agreed at the close o f the week that many o f us had grown emotionally.

Don’t you think th a t’s a good name fo r a mascot? He fits right in with the name o f our year­ book, the Pacem aker. Tick was one o f the dogs used at Cox Heart Institute fo r experimentation.

Several years ago when research was being done at Cox to improve the pacemaker, Tick had the original o f one o f the now most w idely used pacemakers placed in his heart. His working days are essentially over with now though and he lives com fortably with a fam ily. He captured the heart o f the yearbook staff and w e’ve adopted him as our mascot.

ELECTIONS It seemed that the school year began and ended with elections. Posters filled the hallways like laundry in the backyard o f a tenement house. W e don’t know if it takes sex appeal to be SA president, but it does take lots o f work.

Life in the dorm is anything from shaving-cream fights to pool games to jam sessions about boys, girls, the war, school (ah — well). It’s also fire alarms, tele­ phones, worships, friends, and flo o r parties. Life in the dorm is basically a fam ily experience.

A double-decked, paddlewheeled O hio River Boat, the “ M arck Tw ain,” was the scene o f the annual get-acquainted boat trip, sponsored by the Student Association on Sunday, Sep­ tember 12.

Sandwiches and ice cream were provided by the SA. Miss Vaughan was presented with the first copy o f the 1971 Pacem aker, which was dedicated to her. The rest o f the trip was spent in talking, singing and playing games.

Bobbing fo r apples, masks and costumes, spook stories, a haunted haystack house, and pie-eating contests? Yes, these and more were enjoyed by the students, faculty and friends at the Halloween Party, O ctober 31.

A super-slow race was won by Sharon Shumate. O ur staid professors held a pie-eating contest which was won by that epi足 tome o f English correctness, Mr. Foil, who won by a graceless gulp.

A ll in all, everyone agreed that the party was a terrifying success. A ll perhaps, excepting the skeleton hanging from the ceiling . . .

Twasn’t exactly the night before Christmas, but the evening of December 19 found all the KCMA children all snug in their chairs in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there.

W hile waiting they munched cookies and listened to the Instrumen­ tal Five’s carols with a beat. Mrs. Burns and G loria Stella told sto­ ries.

Then w hat to our wondering eyes should appear, but a man so jolly, dressed in red, that we knew in a moment it must be Bob Shepherd. He had presents fo r all and fo r all a good night.

The College experts tell us that form ality is a thing o f the past, but every year KCMA disproves this theory as more and more people come to the annual SA Banquet. Featuring the Instrumental Five, the banquet this year began at the Commodore in the Dayton M all with a delicious meal. The movie, Dr. Zh ivago, ended the evening at the Dayton M all Cinema.

During the 1971-72 school year, the cam足 pus was torn up by major construction which included a parking garage and addi足 tions to the hospital. Nevertheless, students and fa c u lty c h e e rfu lly (u s u a lly ) w o rk e d around the construction w ork, looking fo r足 ward to improved and increased facilities in the future.
