PACEMAKER KETTERING, OHIO 1971

FOREWORD Each of us came to K CM A with hopes of fulfilling a very special dream. As classmates we have shared our dreams. W e grew together intellectually, spiritu足 ally, and emotionally. W e experienced defeat as well as success. W e learned to give as well as to take. Your Pacemaker staff has planned this book in hopes of preserving many of these memories that otherwise might be forgotten. W e hope that it will bring to mind many happy memories that you will cherish for years to come. I know that as I read this annual, it will bring to mind memories of a pleasant and rewarding senior year. As I gaze upon the pictures on these pages, I will re足 live every moment.

Because you loved pure and chaste, you left fa m ilia r surroundings when your career was beginning to give 2 0 years o f service in A fric a , teaching and striving to overcom e superstition and ignorance. Because you w ere not a fra id to dream the impossible d re a m , w e have a m edical college ded icated to preparin g young p eo p le to better serve hu足 m anity. Because you fou g h t for the right w ithout question or pause, you have provided us with the inspiration, prid e, and kno w led g e n eed ed to transform naive students into professional peop le. Because you reached for the un reach ab le star and succeeded,

WE DEDICATE THIS YEARBOOK TO YOU,

ANNA MAY VAUGHAN 5

The Impossible D ream To dream the impossible d ream , To fight the u n b ea ta b le fo e , To b e a r with u n b ea rab le sorrow, To run w here the b ra ve d are not g o , To right the unrightable w ro n g , To love pure and chaste from a fa r, To try when your arms are too w e a ry , To reach the unreachable star. This is my quest, to fo llo w that star, N o m atter how hopeless no m atter how fa r, To fight for the right w ithout question or pause, To be willing to march into Hell for a h eaven ly cause. A n d I know if I’ll only be true to this glorious quest That my heart will lie peaceful and calm when I’m laid to my rest. A n d the w orld will be better fo r this, That one m an, scorned and covered with scars, Still strove with his last ounce o f courage To reach the un reach ab le star!
