KETTERING COLLEGE OF MEDICAL ARTS KETTERING, OHIO
l
Foreword During the years that follow, we hope that as you pick up this book, it will bring to you many happy memories of your days spent at KCMA. Each of us have had times we would like to forget, but I’m sure that most of us have had many fun times, too. Many hectic hours have been spent in putting this book together. We have tried our best to make it something that you as a student can be proud to show to your friends and relatives. Naturally, some of the things in this book will have a meaning special only to you. For those of us who are about to leave KCMA, this book will serve as a reminder of those new friends we leave behind, the classes we took, and the teachers we tantalized, who in turn tantalized us. I know each of us will have a favorite memory to cherish. Lifetime friendships have been made and partings are always hard, but if we are faithful in the things we do here on earth, someday we will be able to all meet again in a better place. So, the Seniors bid the rest of you good-by and wish the best for all those who remain behind.

Dedication
To Mr. Robert Russell we dedicate this yearbook for the school year 1969 - 1970 .
All of us have gotten to know him as a teacher, but many of us have gotten to know him as more than this—as a real friend. His warm way, his genuine interest in the welfare of today’s youth, and his willingness to go the second mile to help a student with classes, has won the hearts of all the students of KCMA. And besides all the things he does as a teacher he stil has time to be sponsor of the yearbook, which in itself is a big job. He is also quite a family man. He takes pride in his wife and little girl and on many occasions has been seen with Stephany by his side. As a family the Russells enjoy many happy and memorable vacations together too. They are always out in nature. So to you Mr. Russell we dedicate this book and with it give our thanks to you for being a friend of all.

In Memory of Dean Sandborn Dean Sandborn was known to many here at Kettering College of Med ical Arts as a friend, fellow teacher, and Christian. Totally committed and dedicated to God and man, he chose a doctoral program in Vocational education in order to fill the needs which he saw in the Seventh-day Adventist educational system. He subsequently gave long years of service as a faculty member, dean, and president of Madison College. The establishment of Kettering College of Medical Arts found Doctor Sandborn serving as academic dean of Salem College, a position in which he served with distinction. Dedicated, as always, to the purpose of service to the church, he willingly accepted the post as dean at the new Kettering school. The orderly growth and development of the college are in no small part a tribute to Dean Sandborn’s effective and dedicated leadership. In recognition of his enormous contribution to this institution, the Pacemaker Saff salutes our fallen chief.

The purpose of a yearbook is remembrance. Remembrance of a year which is a rather important slice of your life, a portion of life contributed by each student and faculty member. The yearbook should be a remembrance not only of our friends, but also of our goals and aspirations. Remembering our friends is important. It helps us to realize that we are not complete in ourselves, that we need each other to accomplish our best. A yearbook is also to re member the fun of college, and this is important too, though certainly not all there is to college or to life. Fun is something like spice, it is fine in certain amounts but used to excess can ruin a life like too much spice can ruin a roast. What about your goals and aspirations, your ideals? Are you closer to them than you were last year? And then there is next year and the year after that. If you accom plished all you wanted to accomplish this past year, well and good. If not, remember the statement of Charles F. Kettering, “If you do not climb on top of your failures, you will never get to where you can have success.”
Marlowe H. Schaffner, M.D.
