Hey everyone! I’m Amy, and I’ve been a member at Kersey’s for 4 years now. I fell in love with this workout and lifestyle ever since I started. I began coaching with the team for a year and a half now. I kickbox for so many reasons. I grew up dancing my whole life and have found that this was a workout that was almost like a dance: moving around the bag and coordinating your movement... I moved on from having a dancing partner to a bag partner! While it is so much fun, helps you get a full body workout in, it’s also a huge stress reliever for me. I can enter the gym with a million things on my mind but leave it all on the bag and feel so empowered to take on whatever life throws at me when I leave. You leave with not only a gain in bodily strength but mental strength as well. I’m a teacher outside of Kersey’s and I love to in- spire and be inspired! My favourite artists to listen to during a kickboxing session are Dr. Dre, Eminem, 50 Cent and, of course, Krista’s singing voice. Come on out and feel inspired and empowered together with me!
Coach Amy teaches Monday and Wednesdays at 5:15 pm.
As a dedicated coach at Kersey’s Kickboxing Club, I constantly seek inspiration and knowledge to fuel my passion for helping others achieve their goals, both in the gym and in life. Recently, I stumbled upon a transformative read that not only altered my approach to personal growth but also revolutionized the way I coach and train.
Enter “Atomic Habits” by James Clear.
In the relentless pursuit of success, it’s easy to become fixated on grand end-goals while overlooking the significance of small victories along the way. Clear’s emphasis on focusing on incremental improvements resonated deeply with me. I realized that celebrating these small wins not only boosts confidence but also reinforces the drive towards continuous improvement.
In the realm of kickboxing, this principle is paramount. Rather than aiming to become the ultimate kickboxer overnight, we emphasize setting achievable goals for each session. Whether it’s refining technique, increasing stamina, or mastering a new combination, starting small and building upon these accomplishments lays the foundation for long-term success.
Additionally, Clear advocates for the principle of improving by 1% each day. This gradual yet consistent progress accumulates over time, leading to remarkable transformations. By committing to small, incremental
improvements daily, we pave the path for lasting change and continuous growth.
Kickboxing, much like life, requires the mastery of various skills and techniques. Clear introduces the concept of habit stacking, where new habits are seamlessly integrated into existing ones. By incrementally building upon our established routines, we pave the way for lasting change.
Imagine starting with a simple jab-cross combination and gradually adding on the roundhouse kick. Each addition contributes to the evolution of your skill set, culminating in significant progress over time. By focusing on small, manageable improvements and staying committed to the process, we set ourselves up for success.
Perhaps the most profound lesson from “Atomic Habits” is the importance of identity in driving lasting change. Clear argues that to truly embody the habits we wish to cultivate, we must first shift our perception of ourselves. Instead of viewing ourselves as individuals struggling to adopt new behaviors, we must embrace the identity of the person we aspire to be.
In the context of kickboxing, this shift in mindset is transformative. By identifying as dedicated kickboxers, our actions align with our values and aspirations. It becomes less about conscious effort and more about ingrained habits that reflect our true identity.
In conclusion, Atomic Habits offers invaluable insights that extend far beyond the realm of kickboxing. By embracing the power of small wins, habit stacking, cultivating a strong sense of identity, and focusing on continuous improvement, we can unlock our full potential both inside and outside the gym. I urge you to delve into this book and discover the profound impact it can have on your journey towards personal growth and success.
