Trainer of the Month Coach Justina

Tell us about yourself!

Hey everyone ! For those of you who don’t know me already, I am Justina! My wonderful husband, Marcus, is a member at Kersey’s as well and loves coming to my classes! Together, we have a beautiful son, Julian, who is a year and a half old. If you have been attending my classes, or have seen me in passing at the club—it’s no secret—we are expecting baby number TWO in the end of August!! I am a small business owner ( shout out to Justhetics Day Spa) and I spend most of my free time going for walks and hanging out with my family.

I have been a member with Kersey Kickboxing Fitness Club for about 6 years now. I started with kickboxing not knowing what to expect at all. I live in the same area as the club so I had seen advertisements and heard that it was a great spot to get an amazing workout. Needless to say, I came in for my trial, fell in absolute

LOVE, quit my old gym and never looked back!

I grew up playing baseball most of my life. I played for 23 years and loved it right until the very end. When I joined kickboxing, I was mostly looking for something to help me get my “revenge body” and release a lot of built up emotions. I had no idea that I was going to love

the actual sport itself as much as I do ! I genuinely love it! I love proper technique and form, I love not only doing each move and each combo but also adding power and strength behind it. I enjoy challenging others but I also like challenging myself. I found that with kickboxing, each week was a new and exciting challenge for me.

What I love most about Kersey’s is the positive energy, encouragement, dedication and motivation that they show towards each and every member. To be very honest that is what kept me going back, over and over again. I loved feeling like I was not only part of the team, but part of a family. I would tell Krista and Brandon on a regular basis that one day, I was going to be a coach – and here I stand as “Coach Justina.”

I was honoured when I was asked if I would be interested in becoming a coach. I didn’t know what coaching would look like compared to being a member. I must say, I absolutely love it! I haven’t been a coach for very long, but watching my “regulars,” as I like to call them, improve their skills and techniques each and

every week is incredible! From week to week, I see changes in my regulars and it makes me feel so good knowing that they are learning from me, growing with me, developing personal kills and achieving personal best records!

After baby number two makes their way into the world, I will be taking a short “active rest.” But you can bet that you will be seeing “Big Mamma” back in action as soon as the healing process is over ! I am looking forward to meeting new members and reuniting with my current 7:45 crew. There’s still time to catch me on Tuesday and Wednesday nights at 7:45PM –I promise you we’ll have a blast!

You are STILL Number One

As we grow older in life, things change, our priorities change – and that is OKAY! We start out as students with not too many responsibilities other than maybe a part time job, assignments for school, household chores, etc. Then from there, we move into full time careers, serious relationships, marriages, homeownerships, and the big one; CHILDREN! Once all these bigger, heavier obligations and responsibilities come into play, people often put themselves on the back burner.

How often do we make excuses as to why we “can’t” do something vs. why we “can” do something? The truth is, we have to WANT to put ourselves first, we have to WANT to put in the effort and energy to take care of our bodies. If we do not want it, then we simply won’t do it. Part of accepting changes in life is realizing that you can still be number one regardless of all your other responsibilities, you just need to make time and do it!

If we are honest with ourselves, it is difficult to fit everything we want to accomplish into one day. Some things we can set aside for the next day or even the next week. Doing something for yourself once a day is something that should be at the top of the “to do” list. It does not have to be something big…it could be something simple for example, have your coffee outside on the porch, read 5 pages from a book you’ve been trying to get into, do a 15 minute workout, or make a healthy snack choice. We should not feel guilty for making a little “me” time throughout our busy day.

Personally speaking, I am a wife, a mother to a one-and-a-half-year-old, working full time as a small business owner, and currently 25 weeks pregnant with baby number two! The most common comment I get on a regular basis is “I don’t know how you are doing this, you must be crazy!”. The truth is, if I stopped doing the things that make me feel good, mentally, physically, emotionally…where would I be? Who would I be? I continued

my kickboxing journey right through the end of my pregnancy with my son because I knew it would benefit me in the long run. I made time to attend my regular classes and keep up with my routine. I intend to do the same thing with this pregnancy because I still am number one!

Put aside the excuses, put aside the guilt and tell yourself “I deserve this”. If we are not the best versions of ourselves for ourselves, then how can we be that for others as well? How can we show up to work with a positive attitude, or show our children what it looks like to have a healthy balance between self care and everyday expectations? Although life changes and our minds shift focus it is so very, very important to remember that our health is important. Mental, physical, and emotional health—it is all important! Do the things that make YOU happy and feel good. Put yourself first, nobody else can do that for you!

You’ll get a one hour private session with a trainer who will tailor the workout to your team’s needs, to help them become stronger physically and mentally to crush it when game time comes.

We’ve had soccer, volleyball, hockey and broom ball teams!

Are you a part of a team that has nothing to do with sports? A killer accounting team, a fantastic nursing crew? We are also booking special team building events as well that double as a workout and a team builder - with no awkward ice breakers!

CERVICAL FLEXION

Tilt your head downwards bringing your chin to chest, holding stretch. Slowly return back to looking straight ahead.

For a deeper stretch apply a light pressure with your hand.

Tilt your head to the side bringing your ear to shoulder, holding stretch.

Standing at a door way

Position your shoulder and elbow to a 90 degree bend Palm of your hand on the wall/door frame

Gently rotate your chest to the opposite side and hold stretch
