n December 30, 2016 the Executive Director of the ICO, Roberio Oliveira Silva died in Belo Horizonte, Brazil at age 53.

Silva led the ICO since 2011 and strived for sustainability within the industry as well as improving the lives of producers around the world; with a deep understanding that the farmers depend on coffee for their survival.

Prior to joining the ICO Silva worked in commodities, including stints as the Director of the Coffee Department in the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply; Commodities Secretary in the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade; Executive Secretary of the Brazilian Chamber of Foreign Trade; Secretary General of the Association of Coffee Producing Countries; and Secretary General of the Brazilian Federation of Coffee Exporters. Silva was instrumental in the success of the Global Coffee Industry and will be deeply missed. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends.
