Tonight, we celebrate excellence in academics, athletics, and the arts. The dedication displayed by our students, staff, and volunteers inspire us all. To our nominees, congratulations on your outstanding achievements. Each of you represents the best of the Kern High School District. Christopher Wells Frontier High School

While competing in the South Yosemite River League Cross Country Cham pionships, Christopher Wells (Frontier) and Elijah Zepeda (Stockdale) were head to head for two miles. During the last mile, Zepeda pushed through to pull ahead of Wells but fell to his knees just before the finish line. Without hesitation, Wells scooped him up to help make sure Zepeda crossed the fin ish line, giving up his 3rd place finish to help his peer. “I didn’t feel like it was right for me to pass him,” said Wells. “I helped him up and I got him across the finish line before me.”

Zepeda wasn’t just another competitor in Wells’ eyes, this was a racing com panion he had known and raced against for the last three years. “We defi nitely need more people like that,” said Zepeda. “It speaks a lot about your character to go out of your way to do these amazing acts.”

“I was very proud [of Chris]. It’s not always about coming in first, second, or third, it’s about how you finish the race,” said Frontier Athletic Director, Mike Gibson.

Why PEAAK?

The Kern High School District is committed to providing its more than 42,000 students a comprehensive four‑year high school experience that includes academic, athletic, and extracurricular experiences.

As the Associate Superintendent of Instruction, I want to thank all Kern High School District Athletic Directors, Activity Directors, teachers, coaches, parents, volunteers, and others who have contributed to all our academic, athletic and activities’ successes. The PEAAK Awards program began in 2011 to formally recognize the accomplishments of our talented students.

Congratulations to all this year’s PEAAK Award winners. We are proud of you!

Sincerely,

Thank You!

Thousands of Kern High School District students participated in sports and activities this year thanks to the efforts of the KHSD’s dedicated Athletic and Activity Directors
