EXPERIENCES THIS WEEK Turtle Watch Experience in Diani: Discover Marine Conservation at the Coast
T
here is something deeply humbling about standing beside the ocean and realizing how much marine life depends on our protection. For visitors exploring the Kenyan coast, the Turtle Watch Marine Centre Tour offers more than just a sightseeing activity. It is an inspiring and educational journey into the world of sea turtle conservation and ocean preservation. Located at Nomad Beach Resort and operated by Local Ocean Conservation, the Turtle Watch program has been protecting sea turtles along the Diani coastline since 2012. Today, it continues to play a vital role in marine conservation efforts across the region.
What to Expect at the Turtle Watch Marine Centre Your experience begins at the Marine Centre along Diani Beach Road, where knowledgeable guides introduce visitors to the delicate balance of marine ecosystems and the conservation work happening behind the scenes. During the tour, you will learn about the organisation’s five key conservation projects, including: •Sea turtle nest protection •The “Bycatch and Release” rescue program •Anti-poaching patrols along the coastline •Marine ecosystem education •Community-driven conservation initiatives The tour also highlights the growing challenge of plastic
pollution in the ocean and shares practical ways individuals can help reduce environmental impact in everyday life. Visitors will also get the chance to: •Learn how to identify different sea turtle species. •Understand the dangers turtles face during nesting season. •Discover fascinating facts about whale sharks and other marine life along the Kenyan coast. Witness a Real Turtle Hatching Event One of the most memorable parts of the experience comes after the tour. Visitors can leave their contact details to receive notifications whenever a live turtle hatching event takes place. Watching tiny hatchlings emerge from the sand and make their first journey
toward the ocean is an unforgettable experience and a powerful reminder of why marine conservation matters. Ticket Prices and Visiting Hours Location: Turtle Watch Marine Centre Open Daily: Monday to Sunday, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM Ticket Prices •Kenyan Citizens: KES 220 •Non-Citizens: KES 550 Tickets are available to book on KenyaBuzz.
