General Manager Diageo Reserve Africa Jane Birkin and EABL Sales Director Andrew Kilonzo

DIAGEO HOSTS FIRST AFRICA LUXURY FORUM Diageo, the world’s leading premium drinks business, recently held the first AFRICA LUXURY FORUM that attracted over 40 luxury business and creative leaders who congregated to explore the potential and opportunities of the African luxury industry. The forum themes “Luxury in Africa: Consumers, Markets & Approaches” provided sound and reliable knowledge about luxury in Africa; and clarity on the opportunities, challenges, requirements and evolution of the African luxury markets. Mr. Charles Weru, Reserve Brands Commercial Manager said...

As a luxury brand, Diageo chose to bring this forum to Kenya so that we can demystify the African luxury consumer, their lifestyle, influences, behavior, travel patterns; while decoding the market-specific rules of the luxury business in Africa through success strategies and case studies.

ABOUT DIAGEO

Africa continues to be an important part of the Diageo Reserve business, contributing 13 per cent of global sales. In 2015, the business in Africa grew by 26 percent with the region offering great opportunities for growth as the brand takes the lead in luxury drinking experiences across the continent. Mr. Weru added that Diageo is seeking to shape the future of the luxury spirits industry in Africa by establishing solid and trusted local partnerships as the continent records the second fastest growth of ultra-high net worth individuals. In attendance was Dipan and Sejal Thakkar of Chandarana Supermarkets, Lottie Lefebvre of Bush Princess, Samit and Leena Gehlot of Mahali Mzuri, Designer John Kaveke with business partner June Hossel Delfaud of Blue Canopy Limited, Luxury Jeweler Tanya Markham, Penny Winter of Penny Winters brand and Elisabetta Capolino of Louis Vuitton’s Le Collane di Betta. Ms. Uche Pézard, Chief Executive Officer of Luxe Corp and Curator said,

is the fastest growing region for luxury “ Africa and the consumers are demanding of the highest quality. Unfortunately, 80 percent of the luxury purchases by Africans are made outside Africa indicating that there is a need to deliver these brands locally.

According to the KPMG 2015 Luxury Goods Sector Report the Emerging luxury goods expansion into Nigeria, Angola and Kenya is poised to rival the traditional luxury goods strongholds of Egypt and Morocco in the medium to long term. The report further suggests that correctly estimating the maturity phase of the target country is pivotal to luxury commercial success, as different product categories see peak demand at different moments of the maturity cycle, ranging typically from the lowest to highest price points. Launched in November 2015 in conjunction with Bloomberg, the Africa Luxury Forum is a luxury business conference that focusses on the emerging African luxury markets and their intriguing emergent affluent populations. The next Africa Luxury Forum will be held in Lagos, Nigeria on October 26th – 28th 2016.

Celebrating life, every day, everywhere. DIAGEO is the world’s leading premium drinks business with an outstanding collection of beverage alcohol brands across spirits, beer and wine categories. These brands include Johnnie Walker, Crown Royal, JεB, Buchanan’s, Windsor and Bushmills whiskies, Smirnoff, Cîroc and Ketel One vodkas, Captain Morgan, Baileys, Tanqueray and Guinness. DIAGEO is a global company, with its products sold in more than 180 countries around the world. The company is listed on both the New York Stock Exchange (DEO) and the London Stock Exchange (DGE).
