SOFTBALL WELCOME NEW HEAD COACH JESSICA O’DONNELL Jessica O’Donnell was named the seventh head coach in Kent State Softball program history on June 21, 2023.

O’Donnell brings 12 years of coaching experience with her to Kent State, including the last five as head coach of the Saint Francis University Red Flash in Loretto, Pennsylvania. She has had tremendous success at Saint Francis, leading the Red Flash to three Northeast Conference (NEC) regular season and tournament titles. In five seasons, she led the Red Flash to two 40-plus win seasons and won more than 78 percent of her conference games.

While in Loretto, O’Donnell coached two NEC Pitchers of the Year and two NEC Players of the year. Sixteen student-athletes earned first-team all-conference honors, six earned all-rookie accolades. Eight program records were broken during her tenure, she was the fastest to 100 career wins at Saint Francis and her 131 victories are second all-time.

GYMNASTICS ROOM (Top photo)

Coming soon - Summer 2023 The gymnastics practice facility will install three new below-ground foam pits. The pits provide a soft, forgiving landing surface for gymnasts and aid in the development of skills while helping reduce injury. The renovation also includes the installation of a proper runway area for the gymnasts to practice safely. The update will eliminate the surface transition that is currently installed. The replacement will be a singular unit identical to what is used during competition.

JOIN US THIS NOVEMBER… Giving Tuesday has been firmly established nationally as the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving and is included in the same list as Black Friday, Shop Local Saturday and Cyber Monday. Today, Giving Tuesday is widely accepted to be the official start of the season of giving. Kent State has participated since 2014, raising nearly $18 million since then.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS How do I receive benefits through The Golden Flashes Club?

Any gift to any athletics specific funds whether it be operational or scholarships qualifies you for benefits through The Golden Flashes Club.

Do I need to give at a certain time in order to receive benefits?

We operate on a July 1-June 30 cycle. Your benefits become active from the date you make your gift until the end of the fiscal year (June 30).

Does my payment for events such as the scholarship auction or golf outing qualify as a gift?

No. The goal of The Golden Flashes Club is to directly support student-athlete scholarships and help close the gap on our annual $7.2 million scholarship support. Tickets and fees for events such as the scholarship auction and golf outings help cover these event costs, so they are not qualified as gifts.

If my gift is to a specific sport, does that count as a gift to The Golden Flashes Club?

Yes! As long as the gift goes toward that sport’s scholarship, capital project or enhancement account, you will be eligible to receive benefits from The Golden Flashes Club.

If my gift is to an athletics endowment, does that count as a gift to The Golden Flashes Club?

Yes, as long as the gift goes toward an athletic endowment. Certain rules apply when giving to men’s basketball funds. Please contact your philanthropic advisor if you have questions.

Do employment matching gifts count as part of my gift total?

Yes! You will receive credit for all matching gifts. Please be aware that match amounts are NOT tax deductible. Please visit www.kent.edu/match to see if your employer offers a matching benefit.

Are my gifts to The Golden Flashes Club tax deductible?
