Red Bikes in Covington Go ride a bike — a Red Bike!

There are now Red Bikes available in Covington across from the Library at Fifth and Scott streets. This is just one of six spots in Northern Kentucky you can rent bikes. The others include: • W. Rivercenter Blvd. and Madison Avenue near the Northern Kentucky Convention Center • Greenup and E. Third streets near the Roebling Suspension Bridge • W. Third and Bakewell streets • W. Seventh St. and Washington Avenue near Braxton Brewing Company • MainStrasse Village near Sixth and Main streets Passes are $8 for 24 hours of use, and annual memberships are $80. Each bike has a 60-minute limit and can be returned to any Red Bike station in Cincinnati or Northern Kentucky. Go to http://www.cincyredbike.org/ for more information.

Covington Library, continued Congenealogy

Monday, September 28, 6:30-8 pm Beth Coyle, Library Associate with the KCPL Local History & Genealogy Department, will present “Literary Northern Kentucky.” Kentucky is fertile ground for poets and authors, and Northern Kentucky is no different. Learn about the numerous writers of poetry, fiction, and nonfiction who have called this area home over the years.

National Recovery Month

Children Make Mr. Chas Dress Up Like a Book Character!

September Mr. Chas has challenged you to check out books and to do more reading this month. For every book you check out from the Covington Children’s Department you will get a ticket to vote for what book character you want him to dress up as. Voting will run through September 1st to September 23rd and the big reveal of the winner will be on Wednesday, September 30th during our Wild Wednesday Program!

Sensory Storytime*

Ages 5-12 Tuesdays, September 1, 15, 22 & 29, 6:30-7:30 pm Sensory Storytime is an interactive and educational program especially designed for children with sensory integration challenges. It combines activities to stimulate the senses and promote learning. If your child has difficulty sitting through one of the Llibrary’s other storytimes, this inclusive program of stories, songs and activities may be a better fit for him or her.

Haunt Your Library Writing Contest

Teens and Grades 1-6 September 8-October 16 Enter an original poem or tale in the Library’s 13th annual spooky writing contest. Deadline for entries is October 16. Limit of 700 words.

Winners will be announced and awarded prizes on October 23.

Submit entries to the Covington Children’s Department or email a Word document to writingcontest@ kentonlibrary.org. Entries must include child’s name, age, address, phone, email address, school and grade level.

If possible, include a photo.

LARPing at the Library*

Tuesday, September 8, 6:30-8:30 pm Do you enjoy battling the beasts of Skyrim? Are you a master of D&D? Ever dreamed of reliving the world of Game of Thrones? Come out to the William E. Durr Library to learn how to inhabit your LarpCraft character.

The Library’s very own Seth Longland will provide a basic acting seminar focusing on building your character’s story and look, as well as how to live in the moment as your character. No experience is necessary! Though you just might earn some XP by coming to this event.

In September, we’ll welcome some furry friends from Benton Farms. We’ll learn about life on this working farm, we’ll learn about different animals and we’ll get to pet a few of the animals in person! Homes School: A Sampling of 20th Century Art*

Ages 9-12 Tuesdays, September 22 & 29, 1:30-2:30 pm Each week students ages 9-12 will experience the art of specific 20th Century artists who made a difference in the world of art as well as learning about color theory and why we do art. Artists who will be studied this fall include Picasso, Lichtenstein, Hopper, Dali, Warhol, Chihuly and Calder. Students will spend most of the hour making an art project in the style of the artist studied that week.

Artists and guests plan to attend the gala exhibit at the end of the session.

Program is limited to 15 students.
