WETLANDS

WETLANDS in Jakarta are mostly consist of neglected empty lands with huge amount of water resource. It also contains huge amount of municipal waste such as plastic bag and other unbiodegredable waste. Restoration strategies includes landscape arrangement to create more public spaces and water catchment and filtering area.

After being processed, the water can be directly distributed for daily use of community in surrounding, some of them is stored/collected, some remains in the site for flora-fauna and act as recreational element

WETLAND PARK

Wetlands Park -

Wetland park made of terraced wetlands with retention pond on the lower ground. Large scale of bioswale span across the site to maximize stormwater management and act as recre ational space alongside the water flows. The terraces was based on geographic information and water flow analysis on the site. The terraces wetlands are using gravity, passively filtering water. Water treatment process which is based on different slopes are thematic and have unique, different impressions for each pixel. Wetland park also act as a firsthand exposure to human on how water is managed and being processed so people are encouraged to be more aware to preserve an d wiser in using water.

RIVER Almost all of Jakarta natural landsccapes alongside the RIVER are already gone. There are many obstacles that lead to this conditions, one of them is high density of settlement alongside the river. This also leads to increasing number of slum area and flooding. Our strategies is to restore the natural landscape of the river, along with the species and encour age human to live together with other species. HOUSING

WATER CATCHMENT AREA

These terraced wetlands slowing down the flow of water and speed nutrient removal from the water by microorganism and plant species that use excess nutrients as resources for their growth.

LANDSCAPE RESTORATION

LAKE There are several LAKE in Jakarta but none of them get serious treatment as biggest water catchment area. Such negligance leads to flooding and water pollution. Lake has biggest potential of biodiversity number so the design strategies are includes preserve and create new habitat for other species. There are also raingardens to create more water catchment area.

WATER PRESERVATION AS IMPULSE Water are required to support biodiversity. Without sufficient water, stresses on specieses and decrease the number of biodiversity (UNESCO, 2019). Water could be recycled but not replaced. That’s why we need to preserve it more. Water cycle are heavily influenced by the ecosystem. Ecosystem are one of the aspects of biodiversity. The problem about water and ecosystem are both real in Jakarta. Growing population and rapid urbaniza tion affects on water quality.

GOALS : INCREASING BIODIVERSITY

There are four aspects of biodiversity : ecosystem, species, genetic, and functional. The more diverse those aspects, the higher biodiversity could get. The biggest aspects from all of this is ecosystem, because more ecosystem means there will be more habitat to various species. That’s why in our design, we choose water as impuls because water are required to support biodiversity. The strategy of water preservation brings new ecosystem and increase the number of biodiversity.

BIODIVERSITY INDEX based on singapore index

Besides the four aspects of biodiversity, there’s biodiversity index applied in Singapore in a form of regulations. We take some part of it to be implemented in our design. We will evaluate our design from this index and aspects in order to increase the biodiversity. We hope that Jakarta could restorized their biodiversity and be a nature-friendly city.
