Newburgh Golf Club, as part of the continuous strive for improvement, has proudly unveiled its newly designed logo alongside a comprehensively refurbished pro shop.
These developments mark an exciting new chapter for the club, blending its rich history with a modern and forward-thinking style.
As part of a total revamp of the club, Newburgh Golf Club’s new logo is a modern design that honors the clubs rich heritage while introducing a fresh, dynamic look. With lots of thought put into the logo, we feel it properly catches the essence of the club.
Accompanying the launch of the new logo is the recent opening of Newburgh’s fully refurbished pro shop. This state-of-the-art facility is designed to provide members and visitors with a top quality shopping experience, combining luxury and functionality in a welcoming atmosphere.
The pro shop’s extensive stock list includes toptier brands such as Under Armour, Glenmuir, and Sunderland, ensuring that our golfers have access to the latest in high-performance apparel.
Golfers can also find an impressive array of equipment from leading brands like PING, Srixon Sports Europe, and Cleveland. From top-ofthe-range clubs to expertly designed golf balls from Titleist and Srixon, the pro shop provides everything needed to enhance on-course performance. Each item is chosen to meet the highest standards of quality, ensuring that players can perform at their best.
In addition to high-end apparel and equipment, the pro shop offers a range of exclusive Newburgh Golf Club logo merchandise. This includes headcovers, scorecard holders, bag towels, ball markers, pitchforks, and even branded golf balls. These items make perfect mementos for visitors, and keepsakes for members, allowing players to carry a piece of Newburgh Golf Club with them wherever they go.
The refurbishment of the pro shop is part of Newburgh Golf Club’s broader initiative to enhance the overall member experience. The modernised
shop layout, along with knowledgeable and friendly staff, ensures that every visit is enjoyable. Whether seeking advice on the latest gear or finding the perfect piece of clothing, members can expect personalised service tailored to their individual needs.
With the launch of its new logo and refurbished pro shop, Newburgh Golf Club is poised to continue its task of being a top golfing destination in both Aberdeen and Scotland. These updates signify a vibrant future for the club, dedicated to innovation.
As we continue improvements on the golf course every week, the team at Newburgh has not stopped there. As you can see by the brand new logo and revamped club shop, every aspect of the club is being looked at, with the idea to make things better. Members and guests alike are invited to explore the new offerings and experience firsthand the elevated standard of quality at Newburgh Golf Club.
The last time we mentioned that we had started to see growth well now that growth is in full swing, it is definitely bums on seats time for the team with cutting just being non-stop!
We are seeing good definition taking shape now throughout the course and the feedback we have received from members, guests and visitors has been overwhelming and very much appreciated!
Unfortunately I have to touch on this as it has been an issue, the machinery is a big headache just now for us and this is leading to us having a lot of downtime on the course for a small team it's not ideal, this being said we are proactively looking at options to solve the situation to give us more consistency in our daily approach as we strive for excellence here at Newburgh Links.
The 6th fairway bunker is now ready for play, we have put fresh sand in and the turf has now taken a strong root hold, we are working our way through topping up the bunkers that need sand and hope to have this complete soon.
As previously spoken about the bunkers on the course need a lot of work, some need to be filled in as they are in the wrong places and others need to be rebuilt. This isn't a quick fix but we will tackle them as and when time allows us to.
With how busy the course has been with opens, outings, visitors and member play along with the growth we haven't had the chance to get any top dressing down on the course, we have a window next week to do this so we will be applying some sand on the greens and approaches this is a vital part of our job to produce good surfaces and get us to the condition that we want Newburgh Links to be in.
Avery warm welcome everyone. Allow me to introduce myself to those who may not know me. My name is Dave Burness and I have recently “volunteered” to take on the vacant role of Seniors Convenor. If you see me around the club/course please come say hello.
I’m relatively new to NOYGC having joined in 2020 from Ellon Golf Club initially as a winter member. It was always my intention to return to Ellon but the friendliness of welcome afforded from all sections of our club, particularly our Seniors section, was instrumental in my decision to stay on as a full member. Despite the many challenges we have faced in recent times I have no regrets as we prosper and continue to go from strength to strength. I’ve met many new friends and hope to meet many more. It really is a great club to be a member of.
Another big reason for continuing my membership at NOYGC has been the significant course improvements. I grew up playing Links Golf in my hometown of Montrose, the 5th oldest Golf Course in the world ( I believe Vinnie Stewart was a founding member) and so I do love the challenge of a continually changing Links Course. It really is a pleasure to play. And as someone who plays many of the local courses on the Buchan Seniors Tour and Gents Seniors Open circuit, I can honestly say our course, and in particular the quality of our greens, ranks amongst the best. Keep up the great work Matty and team.
As for the role of Seniors Convenor there is much for me to learn. Already I have met informally with members of the Seniors Committee to gain a better understanding of the Convenor’s role and your/their expectations of me. Already I can see just how dedicated and knowledgeable our Seniors Committee are, along with the volume of work that takes place behind the scenes, and I feel confident that with their support and experience we can continue delivering to you, our Senior members, the very best golfing experience possible.
I can’t however provide game improvement….see Robbie Stewart for that Inter club matches
Monday 10 June saw us host our 2nd Inter club match of the season at home to Peterhead. We are 1 from 1 already this season following our narrow victory over Portlethen and so it was double delight to see our 16 man team triumph narrowly in what was a very tight match. Our narrow win by 4 ½ to 3 ½ sees us retain the Lido shield which I am reliably informed is our 3rd successive victory in this annual tie against the Blue Tooners.
Monday 24th June we host Craibstone and again I wish everyone the very best of luck. Teams are already selected for our next match but if you’d like to be considered for the 2 remaining matches this season (August and September) look out for future emails from me.
Look out for future match results in our next issue of The Tern.
On the subject of communications, if you are a senior member and are NOT currently receiving the occasional emails that I and the Seniors committee issue, and you would like to be included, please email dave.b136@sky.com and I’ll add you to our distribution list. Inter club matches and club outings are open to ALL senior members (aged 55+)
Our next Seniors outing is to Duff House Royal in Banff on Monday 15 July. If you’ve not already replied to Grant Leslie or Jim Allan and would like to go please email either grantleslie77@hotmail.com or james.allan58@ btinternet.com for further details. All welcome.
Our competition of the season took place at Inverallochy on 6 June. There was a very strong win in Division 1 for Newburgh player Dave Raby with 39 points and in Division 2 we were well represented with a 2nd spot for Peter McAllister with 38 points. Well done lads.
Our next Buchan Seniors competition is at Oldmeldrum on Thursday 20 June. Good luck everyone.
Best wishes everyone and good luck for the remainder of the season
Dave
New date 29th June!
As you know we have been seeing a steady increase in membership over the last 12 months with almost 50 new joiners. But we still need more so keep telling your friends about the fantastic work Matty and the team are doing to deliver such a high quality course.
But what can we do as members to help new joiners become part of the club?
First we have some volunteers to help take new players out on the course and to help with some advice on safest routes ( even simple tips like checking flag on 6th from 5 th tee).
Second we will run a welcome session on Saturday 29th June starting at 2:00pm. This isn't anything fancy, it's just an opportunity to get together. Hopefully newer members (joined in the last year to 18 months) are there but it would be great to have as many members as possible. After some introductions, the plan is to head to the putting green with Robbie Stewart for some putting games ( with some really bad prizes.....). Once these are all won...we will have some tee times booked for anyone to head out for a 9/18 hole game.
Anyone interested please come along and, if you fancy a game after the putting, let me know in advance so we can match up teams.
Nick BannisterIt’s been a tough six months to kick off 2024 and our involvement with Newburgh Links however I believe we can already see green shoots.
The feedback on the course has been incredible thanks to the great work of the greenkeepers.
The club’s brand and presence is growing with more new members, visitors, corporates and international guests.
The club house, the club shop and the food have improved dramatically and there is still a lot more to come as we kick off downstairs later in the year.
I say this a lot but without the great team, the committee, the volunteees we have at Newburgh we would be nowhere so thank you for continuing to support the club as we move forward.
If you can continue to share the club news, social posts or leave reviews on Google and trip adviser it makes a huge difference.
Kenny
Some would say that the name is somewhat misleading as there is certainly not much ‘loving’ on display during the match and the competitive spirit is fierce.
The match took place on Wednesday 12 June and fortunately the weather was very kind to us and the course was in excellent condition as usual.
After their drubbing last year, the women were determined to get revenge and managed to achieve this by winning or halving all of the matches. A rumour was circulating that the women were assisted by the severe placement of the white tees ( cheque is in the post Matty!) but nobody listens to a sore loser.
Following the match the atmosphere was very friendly and the soup and sandwiches provided by the Giddi Grill were enjoyed by all.
Thanks to Les Simpson and Shelley Johnstone for captaining the teams and making all the arrangements.
Twelve months to get some practice in guyssee you next year!

What a great club and under new ownership! The greens are world class and the development on and off the course is moving at a rapid rate, and from what I can tell, all for the better. This really is a hidden gem and worth the trip, you will not be disappointed!
