Message from the President Dear WIN members, What a summer! Over these past few months, our organization has gained much momentum. This progress is a direct result of YOU! So first, let me say thank you for all that you have been doing. There were several incredibly successful events I would like to highlight. On Sunday, May 3, we had our best turn-out yet for our annual Planting Hope event. As we do each year with Kennedy Krieger patients, we painted rocks for the therapeutic garden, planted colorful flowers, and sipped refreshing lemonade and tea while listening to the live music of California Bob. We had over 20 of our WIN volunteers come out with some of their family members and children. We helped over 22 patients with a variety of crafts supplied by Michaels of Timonium. was extensive participation by all those who attended. Many of the patients were able to create a few original items to take to their rooms this year. Another record breaking event has been our Parent Dinner Program. These dinners are held once a month on a Tuesday. Our WIN members volunteer their time to serve dinners to many of the parents with children in the inpatient unit. The parents are generally with their children around the clock during their time at the hospital. These dinners give parents a chance to relax and enjoy a special meal. Our volunteers take the time to serve those who are always serving their loved ones. Also, with all this incredible momentum, we’ve created specific committees to carry out our efforts. I want to thank all the new committee chairs and co-chairs, including Debbie Abrams, Melissa Becker, Kara Bennett, Terri Block, Dorie Fain, Emily Fearey, Aimee Fulchino, Sally Hoskins, Mara-Lee Khouzami, Lynne Kahn, Sara Orthwein, Keira Shein, Lisa Stoler, Lizzy Sweeney, and Leslie Tini. A special thanks goes out to Nicholle O’Malley, our vice president, who puts together this incredible newsletter so we can all keep up to date on what is happening in the world of WIN.
