How You Can Help Our Students

Your Help Is Needed for the Sister Janet Meehan Student Fitness Center

Plans are well underway to construct the Sister Janet Meehan Student Fitness Center on the Kennedy Catholic campus. To be located on the south end of the two main athletic fields, the new center will hold state-of-the-art athletic equipment for all students to improve their fitness and for student-athletes to train for competition.

Architect Mr. Paul Checco, AIA, of Brewster, is designing the building and preparing the drawings necessary for building permits. Mr. Checco has done other work for KCPS and we are very excited that he has taken on this transformative project. Support from the Kennedy Catholic family is instrumental, and we have raised approximately $800,000 due to the generosity of a few large donors and almost 200 KCPS alumni, parents and friends.

Yet more is still needed from the Kennedy Catholic community, as this Student Fitness Center will cost about $1.2 million. There is a generous $300,000 matching gift thanks to Mark Girolamo ’71, so any amount donated up to the total of $300,000 will be matched dollar for dollar. At this point approximately $120,000 is still unmatched and ready for your donation.

So, if you give $1,000 it is instantly doubled to $2,000. If you work for a company that matches charitable contributions, ask for their match. It’s simple to do, just contact your company’s HR Department. In this way your $1,000 will be increased to a total $3,000.

You can also help by becoming a Class Captain. The role of Class Captain is to help in the fundraising effort by reaching out to classmates to tell them about the project and ask for support. The Advancement Team will provide contact information and assist with contacting prospects. We need a representative for each class (all 54 of the graduated Kennedy classes, plus our predecessor St. Mary’s High School) to be the point of contact for their class. We can also use additional representatives from the Girls’ Track & Field and Cross Country teams who were coached by Sister Janet. These people can also be Class Captains. Serving as Class Captains is also a great way to reconnect with your old friends and do a tremendous service to our Alma Mater.

Donations of any size are welcome and much appreciated. If you can help with this effort to enhance the lives of KCPS students, please contact Fred Compton at advancement@kennedycatholic.org, Thank you in advance!
