With our sale partners Poplar Grove Red Angus and Blueberry Ridge Angus we would like to welcome you to the 2nd Annual Deep Roots Bull and Female Sale on March 9, 2025 at the Poplar Grove farm.
We are excited to offer a great selection of yearling Speckle Park and Maine Anjou bulls as well as four select open females. We welcome you to join us at the farm for a tour through the bull pen prior to sale day and would also like to invite you to the Open House on sale day for some hospitality and socializing with fellow breeders. Bulls and heifers will be on site during the Open House for your viewing as well.
We believe that this is the most consistent set of bulls we’ve raised and are sure you will find something that suits your program. Bulls are on a full herd health program and will be semen tested prior to the sale. Heifers will be palpated by a vet for a breeding soundness evaluation.
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to give us a call or stop in at the farm. Coffee is always on!!

In the last couple of years, I’ve had several requests for a red speckle bull to use on red cows. While I can’t build a red Speckle Park and register it as a Purebred, here is the next best thing. A white bull that is a Red Carrier. While there are no guarantees, this should help increase your odds of having some different color results in the offspring. He is a deep, well- built bull with a baby doll head. Great structure and depth of rib are this guy’s solid traits.

When we took this guy’s catalog picture, the photographer was frustrated with his easy-going personality. “He is such a good bull, but he refuses to show it to the camera!” A walk through the pen will quickly show what the picture does not. He is tied together in the best way possible. From front to back. His performance is backed up by the data.

We are holding nothing back. Here is a heifer that ranked 6th out of 60 heifers for WPDA when we weighed at weaning in the fall. She is all the performance you would expect and has a beautiful head, smooth feminine shoulders, tying into a deep middle, and continued into her hind third. Her udder structure is impeccable. One of my favorite two commercial heifers that really shouldn’t be going anywhere. She is feminine, she is deep, and perfect udder placement. Out of one of my top recipient cows, this heifer is so dynamic. She is three quarter Speckle Park female that I know will raise top end calves.

The only difference between these two commercial Speckle heifers is their color pattern. They have been almost identical in every other statistic including weaning weight, WPDA of age and projected sale weight. The same description applies to this heifer as the 6M heifer. They couldn’t be more equal. The only way to decide, is to buy both, and let them sort it out.

Like his brother before him, this boy hit the ground and never stopped growing. In all honesty, we were really hoping for a heifer. Our “Edna” cow works hard every year, so to get a female from this cross would have been an exceptional addition to our breeding herd. But our loss is your gain, no doubt this guy will put the pounds on his calves. We loved watching him grow throughout the summer to a whopping 1035 lbs at weaning… all from mama’s milk and green grass. Although we wouldn’t recommend using him on heifers, he will be a great bull to use in your cow herd. SSK 1M /

This bull is from one of my favorite cows, she’s a Final Answer daughter with a powerful deep body and a perfect udder. She raises excellent calves with quiet temperaments, I would keep every female I get from her. The sire of this bull is a really great maternal bull from Blaine and Sandra, we have kept heifers from this bull and they all have nice feet and beautiful udders. Homozygous black ) Thick made bull sired by DL Rainmaker 1879, his mother is the result of an embryo flush mating between our BSM 13X and RED SOO LINE POWER EYE 161X. He’s a cow bull that has shown very good growth coming off pasture at 800 lbs and didn’t slow down when he got on feed for the winter. Very thick with lots of hair he should add pounds to his calves. 28M was a week overdue which may have contributed to his bigger birthweight. Has small white spot in eye SUITABLE FOR COWS

Here’s a son of the Towaw Selkirk 421J that we purchased in the 2023 Towaw bull sale, 55M is a deep sided dark red bull with good temperament and a dark foot. His dam BSM 564C is the result of a mating between our BSM 12X (born in 2010) and Dwajo All Star 41X ( the first black/red carrier bull we purchased). The 12X cow has just had her 14th calf here at our farm exhibiting some great longevity. Her daughter 564C is a dark red hard working cow with plenty of milk and is showing that she also has similar fertility to her dam, lots of calving ease on the bottom side of this bull’s pedigree as well. SUITABLE FOR USE ON HEIFERS.
