Partnerships and Collaborations
We cannot simplify trade processes for Kenya’s competitiveness by ignoring the users and our stakeholders. We have to continuously consult and engage to improve on the quality of service delivery.”

Alex Kabuga, KenTrade’s Founding CEO (May 2014)
KenTrade has collaborated with institutions that share a common goal of providing satisfying solutions to a growing number of trade facilitation challenges.
Beyond the immediate reasons for forming partnerships with other organizations, strategic collaboration opens doors for future opportunities for the Agency. It is therefore imperative that at the onset we get the right partnerships, which requires deliberate efforts involving strategic decisions, partner evaluation, and long-term alliance management. This has greatly helped in sharing knowledge and expertise, development of new products and technologies.

KenTrade is a member of the African Alliance for e-Commerce (AAEC), a grouping of Single Window operators in Africa from 18 African economies. KenTrade is not only an active member of AAEC but also represents the East African Region in the AAEC Executive Council.
KenTrade has previously hosted AAEC continental conferences which has seen countries that implemented electronic single window systems establish a framework of competence to help African countries in the development of their Single Window projects, as well as applying international standards and norms relative to the establishment of Single Windows. Similarly, other countries intending to implement single window systems such as Namibia, Ethiopia, Gambia among others have visited the country to benchmark with the implementation model that Kenya used in implementing the Kenyan Single Window System. KenTrade partnered with Strathmore University to develop a Digital Logistics Marketplace Platform (DLMP). The DLMP’s aim is to create an efficient logistics and trade facilitation environment, through a market linkage service platform, that hosts features such as an online trade logistics directory which would list all players within the trade logistics sector, detailing the products, services they offer, prices where applicable and contact details. The participants developed a prototype platform, which will connect all stakeholders online in real-time, facilitating transparent, timely delivery and shipment of products, in compliance with government and regulatory requirements. Plans to actualize this are ongoing.

The Agency has also signed an agreement with Kenya International Freight and Warehousing Association (KIFWA), the largest consumer of its service, to increase collaboration, cooperation and interaction with a view to promoting and achieving high performance in various services and/or businesses. KenTrade continuously review Service Level Agreements with Partner Government Agencies, to manage their expectations and outline how they can also benefit from SLAs, because it describes performance characteristics of the service, which sets forth the means for redressing service issues.
