Located in Old Muscat, Muttrah Souq, is a traditional bazaar which is around 200 years old. It has two gates: one facing the Sea of Oman and Mattrah Corniche, and a second that opens onto the city’s old quarters.

A must-see for visitors to Oman, Muttrah Souq is a cornucopia of produce including incense and Arabic perfumes, handicrafts and silverware, traditional clothes, textiles, spices, and Halwa - a famous Omani sweet.

Coffee, known as Omani Kahwa, has a special place in Omani society. There are rituals surrounding how it is served which vary from region to region but it is almost always accompanied by Omani dates. Omanis drink it several times a day, and will always offer it to visitors to their homes. Cardamom, rose water and saffron are added to enrich the coffee powder all over Oman, but some prefer cloves and cinnamon too.
