DARIOS-Duo
The digital accelerator ring

USER MANUAL
Dear Customer,
Congratulation on purchasing a DARIOS Duo digital accelerator ring and main hand brake.
This adaptation was designed and manufactured with high standards of quality and reliability. It respects and doesn’t alter the passive safety features built into your vehicle by the car manufacturer.
The airbag in the steering-wheel is still functional. Laboratory deployment tests showed, that the digital accelerator ring doesn’t affect the deployment of the airbag.
It was especially designed for your vehicle model, to fit elegantly in the car’s interior providing you with very high safety standards. (See technical specifications on page 6)
You have the ability to keep both hands on the wheel while driving having finally the same comfort as people driving using their feet.
Have fun and drive safely!

USER INSTRUCTIONS
Before you start:
When you start:
Make sure that the original throttle pedal is in idle position and that nothing is preventing the brake pedal to reach the floor.
Don’t push on the accelerator ring while starting the engine. At every start DARIOS tests the position of the ring and it will only work if the ring is in idle position.
Turning
ON Darios:
Standard mode:
Locate the 3-position switch on the dashboard. Place the switch in position I pushing left on the switch.

In this position DARIOS is in Standard mode. It’s the best mode to start with.
Now you may start the engine and test the ring by pushing it slighlty; it will accelerate. - 3 -
USER INSTRUCTIONS
At low speed:
DARIOS adapts its sensitivity to the speed of your vehicle. The acceleration is smooth and progressive making delicate parking maneuvres easy to perform. It helps you drive more economically.
At high speed:
Exiting turns:
DARIOS allows you to maintain a comfortable and natural position of your hands. The acceleration is dynamic and responsive making highway driving safe and enjoyable.
For more info:
Once you get used to driving with DARIOS you’ll realize that thanks to its free turning sleeve, you can maintain a steady acceleration while exiting a turn, by letting the steering wheel slide trough your fingers.
We encourage you to watch some videos on our website to see the steering wheel sliding through the driver’s fingers:

USER INSTRUCTIONS
In “Sport” mode:
In position II, DARIOS adapts also its sensitivity to the speed of your vehicle. It is slightly more dynamic at low speed than in position I and becomes gradually more responsive when driving over 40 mph. It is very enjoyable while driving on country- or mountain- roads because of its dynamic response.

Turning off DARIOS :
When going to the dealership:
To deactivate the system, place the Switch in O (zero) = OFF position. In this position the original accelerator pedal is functional. Please make sure to turn OFF DARIOS placing the Switch in the zero position when going to a dealership. The technicians there might need to access the diagnostic OBD2 connector. If not deactivated, DARIOS might interfere with the diagnostic tool.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Technology: - 6 -
The position of the digital accelerator ring is analyzed by two sensors and an electronic circuit installed in the steering wheel. The presence of two sensors is very important to be able to comply with the car manufacturers’ requirement, that all electronic accelerators have to have two sensors, like in all original electronic throttle pedals.

The position of the accelerator ring is sent as a digital signal twice every millisecond to an electronic controller under the dashboard which controls the acceleration.
This controller reproduces exactly the electronic signals from the original throttle pedal of your vehicle. The safety circuit inside the controller requires that two identical signals be received from the ring, before disconnecting the original accelerator pedal.
In the case of any malfunction in any part of the system, the power to the safety circuit inside the controller is turned off, reconnecting the original throttle pedal which therefore should always stay in idle position when the ring is used.
It is guaranteed that no involuntary acceleration can occur. The system has been tested in the laboratories and on endurance tests by several car manufacturers.
Its electronic circuits have passed successfully all required tests for electromagnetic compliances.
OUR HISTORY

In 1954 Jean-Pierre KEMPF, a polio victim who had lost the use of both legs, invented the accelerator ring to be able to drive his car keeping both hands on the wheel. He founded his company and by the end of his life in 2002 he had adapted over 100,000 vehicles. - 8 -
OUR HISTORY
Jean-Pierre KEMPF founded the KEMPF company in France to adapt vehicles with his invention, the mechanical accelerator ring. It became the standard hand controls in France.
The electronic accelerator ring replaced the mechanical one to be compatible with the airbag.
KEMPF Inc. was founded in Tampa, FL to adapt vehicles first for veterans from the Tampa VA but quickly started adapting vehicles for everybody.
DARIOS, the digital accelerator ring which adapts its sensitivity to the speed of the vehicle was introduced, giving an unsurpassed precision in throttle control.
A new version of DARIOS is introduced to be compatible with the new digital accelerator pedals found in several new vehicle models.
The new DARIOS 211 is designed for flat bottomed steering wheels maintaining a sleeve that slides over the flat bottomed metal ring. - 9 -
