Wentworth House Technical Services
Wentworth is our in-house design consultancy, specialising in surveying, testing, repair, and verification of existing structures. The Technical Services team provides expertise for complex engineering projects, collaborating closely with the design team to offer a seamless, one-stop solution.

Keltbray has extensive experience of carrying out enabling works, temporary works designs and installations, structural alterations and new construction elements on existing buildings that are being remodelled. Among our main projects are:

The 76-78 Upper Ground project involved transforming the former 1980s IBM building, a Grade II listed structure adjacent to the National Theatre on London’s Southbank, into a flexible and spacious modern workspace.
Eighty percent of the existing structure was retained. The building was sensitively refurbished and extended to deliver an additional 11,000m² of floor space. Keltbray provided the following services to enable this awardwinning remodelling project:

– Partial demolition
– Design and installation of temporary works
– Dismantling of the existing façade which was later reinstalled on the project
– Structural strengthening of the retained structure
– Piling
– Substructure works & Superstructure works
Key Challenges and Solutions
Site Logistics: the site, located in a busy conservation area, required extensive negotiations with Lambeth to agree on vehicle routes and logistics to meet strict planning requirements.
Neighbourhood Liaison: regular communication with local community groups and The National Theatre ensured minimal disruption to matinee performances.
Heritage Items and Circular
Economy: Grade II listed building items were carefully removed for reuse, with bespoke solutions to prevent damage.
Circular Economy Achievements
Retaining 62 listed façade panels and 20 listed core façade panels, resulting in 88,068 kgCO2e emission savings.
Salvaging 27,360 floor tiles, 95 tonnes of paving blocks, and 71 tonnes of bricks for reuse.
Recycling 20 tonnes of glazing and reusing significant amounts of timber on-site.
