Seattle Design Festival: Kinetic Echos Mahlum in partnership with Skanska Construction and Coughlin Porter Lundeen, 2025
This pavilion explores being present in place and celebrates physical feedback of the built environment to the senses. As we grow farther from analog interaction across all parts of life, this pavilion aims to connect the visitor to their immediate surroundings and sensory experiences. Icons of joy, pinwheels provide direct sensory FEEDBACK to the visitor. Shifting light and shadow, changing perspectives and fluttering sounds make the invisible phenomena visible. This construction utilizes unfinished lumber to be reused by our build partners immediately after deconstruction. Visitors are encouraged to make a pinwheel of their own, with our provided craft supplies, to bring home a memento from the experience. Project Team: Kyle W., Derek G., Jonathan T. 11
